Derek Anderson Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Charles Clay week-to-week for Bills; starting QB for Week 10 unclear

Charles Clay is considered week-to-week for the Bills, so it's very likely we'll see some sort of committee in place against the Jets in Week 10. The Bills are not an offense worth targeting in any fashion at this point, but the Jets D/ST unit figures to be one of the most heavily targeted groups for DFS purposes, as opposing defenses have had a field day against the Bills QB carousel. It's still unclear who will start at QB this coming Sunday, but the Bills have stated that Derek Anderson will start if he's healthy and Josh Allen is unable to go, signaling that Nathan Peterman is last in line.

Derek Anderson (concussion) officially out Sunday; Nathan Peterman will start

Anderson has officially been downgraded from questionable and won't play in Sunday's matchup against the Chicago Bears as he remains in the NFL's concussion protocol. This will allow Nathan Peterman to start at quarterback and, to put it mildly, has struggled to begin his career when given the opportunity. Not that Anderson has been highly efficient in his starts, but his absence is certainly a boost to the projected value of the Bears defense, as Buffalo currently owns a laughable 13.75 implied team total, easily the lowest of the week.

Derek Anderson questionable, Josh Allen ruled out for Sunday

Derek Anderson is questionable while Josh Allen has been ruled out for Sunday. Anderson is dealing with a concussion and still appears more likely to play than not, but the Bears D/ST unit would become an even more appealing target if he can't go. There isn't any real reason to look towards the Bills sideline for DFS purposes.

LeSean McCoy (concussion) questionable for Monday night, Chris Ivory and Derek Anderson not on final injury report for Bills

LeSean McCoy is officially questionable for Monday night due to still being in the concussion protocol, while Chris Ivory and Derek Anderson are not on the final injury report for Bills. It appears McCoy is the only remaining question mark for a less than impressive Bills offensive attack, who figure to be playing from behind most of the night against the Patriots. If McCoy is unable to play, look for Chris Ivory to see a heavy workload out of the Bills backfield.

Josh Allen (elbow) ruled out for Week 8, Derek Anderson to start for the Bills

No surprise here, but Josh Allen has officially been ruled out for Week 8 due to his elbow injury, and Derek Anderson has been confirmed as the starter for the Bills. Anderson will square off against the Patriots on Monday Night football, and will probably be tasked with throwing and throwing often as the Patriots figure to have a sizable lead for most of the game.

Derek Anderson Will Start for Buffalo

Bills are starting QB Derek Anderson this week and coach Sean McDermott says Josh Allen is week to week. This is, more than likely, an upgrade to opposing defenses more than anything else. There isn't much fantasy appeal in the Bills offense these days

Cam Newton limited; Jonathan Stewart and Greg Olsen do not practice for Panthers

With little to play for this week it would not be a surprise to see the Panthers to sit three of their key offensive weapons as they're all dealing with injuries. Newton was able to put in a limited practice today but it's hard to imagine the Panthers risking further harm to his shoulder making Derek Anderson the likely starter. While one of many value options at QB this week, Anderson will face a much improved Tampa pass defense that is 6th in DVOA. Cameron Artis-Payne, however, is intriguing if Stewart doesn't play as the Bucs have been vulnerable to the run (24th in DVOA). Tomorrow's practice should tell us more about the status of these three - we'll update you then.

Cam Newton ruled OUT against Buccaneers

This leaves Derek Anderson as the starter for Carolina. After entering the game in the fourth quarter last week against the Falcons he threw for 173 yards, two touchdowns, and two picks. The situation helped inflate his stats, as Carolina was in catch-up mode at that point. Anderson didn't play too much last season, but he started two games in 2014, averaging 253.5 yards and 1.5 touchdowns per start without throwing an interception. Tampa Bay utilizes a pass-funnel defense, ranking 27th in passing DVOA and 11th in rushing DVOA. They've allowed 9 touchdowns through the air. This is a good spot for Anderson to start and he's just $500 above the minimum on both FanDuel and DraftKings.

Cam Newton expected to miss this weeks game

Local media out of Charlotte is reporting that Cam Newton is expected to miss this weeks Monday Night Football game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Derek Anderson will get the start and looked promising in mop up time last week against Atlanta. Anderson is definitely in play as a GPP option going against a Bucs team that is 27th in DVOA against the pass. He loved looking Greg Olsen's way last week as well so pairing the two together makes for a strong stack.

Cam Newton not practicing again

As the week progresses, Newton not practicing brings into question whether he will be cleared from the NFL concussion protocol in time for the Panthers Monday Night game against Tampa Bay. It's a great match up and Derek Anderson would be a viable value QB option if the reigning league MVP can not play. We'll keep a close eye on this situation and update it as more information becomes available.
