Joe Johnson Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Joe Johnson (illness) and Nene (rest) ruled out Wednesday

Johnson has officially been ruled out and won't play in Wednesday's game against the Milwaukee Bucks after previously being listed as questionable in the latest updated version of the Houston Rockets' game notes with an illness that has now forced him to miss two consecutive games, while Nene will be rested on the second night of a back-to-back set and is not available to play. They'll join Ryan Anderson and Brandan Wright on the Rockets' inactive list, both of whom have missed five straight games due to their respective ailments. The aforementioned absences won't have an effect on the starting lineup, but it will test the depth at multiple positions and allow Tarik Black to enter the rotation as the primary backup behind Clint Capela at center. With Johnson still sidelined, Gerald Green will continue to absorb a majority of his minutes on the wing after logging 18 minutes off the bench in Tuesday's win.

Rodney Hood (leg) probable Saturday; Joe Johnson (rest) ruled out

Hood has officially been upgraded to probable on the Utah Jazz' injury report for tonight's game against the San Antonio Spurs after missing six consecutive games with a lower left leg contusion. Meanwhile, Joe Johnson has been ruled out on the second leg of a back-to-back set due to rest purposes following a 21-minute effort in Friday's blowout win. Prior to his injury absence, Hood had taken over as the starting small forward ahead of Joe Ingles, so it'll be interesting to see if Hood is reinserted into the starting lineup if he's cleared to play, but either way, Alec Burks will see his role in the rotation reduced. Since Johnson is resting, Jonas Jerebko will likely be the beneficiary of increased playing time at the four spot and consistently records minutes in the mid-teens with Johnson active, meaning he may push the 20-minute mark this evening.

Joe Johnson (wrist) ruled out Tuesday; Jonas Jerebko (illness) available to play

Johnson has officially been ruled out and won't suit up for tonight's game against the Chicago Bulls after previously being listed as questionable on the Utah Jazz injury report with right wrist instability, while Jonas Jerebko will be available to play following his earlier probable designation due to a minor illness. Additionally, Rodney Hood has been cleared to play after missing seven consecutive games with a sore left ankle, and Raul Neto has officially been ruled out with a concussion. Hood told reporters at shootaround that he expects to have a minute restriction for his return but is still unsure of the exact amount. Prior to his injury, Hood had been demoted to the bench in favor of Donovan Mitchell and is more than likely to remain in that role given the emergence of Mitchell in the early portion of this young season. In Hood's absence, Alec Burks ended up being the largest beneficiary since he was able to assume the role as the primary scoring option off the bench and now he and Hood are expected to lead the second unit and serve as the primary guards off the bench behind Mitchell and Ricky Rubio in the frontcourt, effectively limiting each player's overall floor and ceiling combination on a nightly basis.

Rodney Hood (ankle) will play Wednesday; Joe Johnson (wrist) questionable; Raul Neto (concussion) doubtful; Jonas Jerebko (illness) probable

Hood has been cleared to play and will suit up for tomorrow's game against the Chicago Bulls after missing seven consecutive games with a sore left ankle, while the Utah Jazz have hit injury report bingo with Raul Neto listed as doubtful, Joe Johnson listed as questionable, and Jonas Jerebko listed as probable due to their respective ailments. Prior to his injury, Hood had been demoted to the bench in favor of Donovan Mitchell and is more than likely to remain in that role given the emergence of Mitchell in the early portion of the season. In Hood's absence, Alec Burks ended up being the largest beneficiary since he was able to assume the role as the primary scoring option off the bench and now he and Hood are expected to lead the second unit and serve as the primary guards off the bench behind Mitchell and Ricky Rubio in the frontcourt, effectively limiting player's overall floor and ceiling combination on a nightly basis.

Update: Joe Johnson (wrist) will remain out Tuesday

There was an earlier erroneous report from a Utah Jazz beat writer that Joe Johnson had been upgraded to a game-time decision for tonight's game against the Denver Nuggets after being sidelined for 13 consecutive games with a right wrist injury, however, Johnson had actually already been ruled out and will officially miss his 14th straight game with the said wrist injury.

Boris Diaw will remain in starting five Monday, as expected

Coach Quin Snyder wanted to slow everything down in Game 3 so he reinserted Boris Diaw in the starting lineup in place of Joe Johnson. In doing so the Jazz were able to bring the pace to 94.54 from the 97.78 average over the first two meetings. Diaw also helped improve their defensive rating to 109.5 from their 113.3 rating in the two games Johnson started. Diaw finished with 26 minutes to Johnson’s 24. It would make sense for Snyder to employ a similar strategy tonight as it was their best game of the series and the only one in which they held a lead. Diaw scored ten points in Game 3 and collected a personal playoff-high five rebounds. His scoring seems a little suspect as his 12 FGAs doubles his previous postseason high and he only attempted two in 20 minutes of Game 1. Overall, he’s averaging 0.69 FD points in this series, but that’s an improvement of 0.10 over his normal production.

Boris Diaw will start ahead of Joe Johnson Saturday

Coach Quin Snyder decided to take Joe Johnson out of the starting lineup for Game 3. He's played at least 29 minutes in every game he's come off the bench this season though, so he should still have a sizeable workload. Diaw has seen his playing time decrease over the course of the playoffs. Even though he'll start, he may be stuck around the 20-minute mark or below. Rudy Gobert does better with Diaw on the court and Johnson off, he's averaged 1.15 FD ppm this season, an increase of 0.09.

Rudy Gobert OUT for Jazz on Friday

Gobert will miss his second straight game for the Jazz on Friday as the team has ruled him out with a knee injury he suffered this past weekend. He's considered day-to-day moving forward. Derrick Favors will be the likely starter in his absence and is a viable DFS option along with Joe Johnson who sees an increased role and usage with Gobert out.

Gordon Hayward OUT for Utah tonight

Hayward has been downgraded from questionable to out for Utah tonight and is considered day-to-day moving forward. Rodney Hood is also out so it'll be Joe Johnson and Joe Ingles benefiting on the wings. With all the value that is out there today though there are probably better places to look than to those two.

Derrick Favors (knee) ruled out for Saturday; Shelvin Mack (ankle) questionable

Favors will miss his ninth consecutive game due to a knee issue. Favors has been dealing with this injury since preseason and has seemed to get hurt every time the team ramps up the minutes. Boris Diaw started on Wednesday against the Knicks but only played 14 minutes. Joe Johnson was being used as the starting forward and still ended up playing about 23 minutes. Johnson has been consistent since Favors went down but lacks elite tournament upside. Shelvin Mack has been out since the All-Star break and will likely be eased back into the rotation if he plays. George Hill has been logging over 35 minutes lately and will be more of a GPP play against the Clippers on Saturday.
