Jordy Mercer Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Cheap Leverage Stack In The Texas Heat

Adrian Sampson could easily get into trouble tonight in Texas with his 48.1% hard hits, 40.6% fly balls at only an 18% strikeout rate. While the Tigers are one of the worst hitting teams in the MLB, the ballpark upgrade, weather and matchup could mitigate this fact at bargain basement prices. Playing any of their bats as a one-off as a punt to get up to great 10k pitching options is absolutely viable in any format. But with Sampson potentially garnering ownership as an SP2 on DraftKings, a cheap 5-man stack at under $18.5k combined salary could provide ample leverage in large-field GPPs.

Andrew McCutchen has a slate leading 352 wRC+ with four HRs over the last week

Andrew McCutchen will not slow down. He now has a 352 wRC+ over the last week (10 PA min.), the highest on the slate, with a 38.5 Hard% and four HRs. His home park is supposed to suppress RH power, but he's having none of it right now. Tonight's opponent is Sal Romano. RHBs have a .397 wOBA against him, but with a 60% ground ball rate and 0.0 Hard-Soft%. It's all in the 17.3 BB%. Christian Vazquez (342 wRC+, 41.2 Hard%, one HR) and Eduardo Nunez (293 wRC+, 50 Hard%, two HRs) are part of the highest projected offense by Vegas (6.12 runs) against Miguel Gonzalez (RHBs .315 wOBA since 2016). Lucas Duda (273 wRC+, 41.7 Hard%, three HRs) has found the American League to his liking. He gets Collin McHugh (LHBs .345 wOBA since last season) in Houston. No other batter has a wRC+ above 250 over the last seven days, but Chase Headley has just a 185 wRC+ and one HR on an 80% hard hit rate in 26 PAs. Brandon Belt and Jordy Mercer are at or just above 70% as well.

Plenty of Outfield help for players looking to save salary tonight

The demand for expensive pitching may not be that over-whelming tonight, but player are likely going to load up on expensive bats, meaning they'll still need to find savings somewhere. Luckily, there are some top and middle of the lineup bargains to help everyone do so tonight. We start off in the outfield with Joey Rickard (130 wRC+, .183 ISO vs LHP career) for just $2.7K or less against Danny Duffy (RHBs .332 wOBA, 34.1 Hard% since 2015). Tommy Pham (134 wRC+, .261 ISO vs RHP since 2015) moves up to second for just a few hundred more than Rickard. He faces Eddie Butler. RHBs had a .384 wOBA against him while pitching for the Rockies. Curtis Granderson (128 wRC+, .224 ISO vs RHP since 2015) costs just $2.5K on FanDuel against Matt Garza (LHBs .369 wOBA, 34.8 Hard% since 2015), the same price as Stephen Vogt (111 wRC+, .183 ISO vs RHP since 2015) and Jed Lowrie (95 wRC+ vs RHP since 2016) against Andrew Cashner (LHBs .372 wOBA since 2015). Jordy Mercer (105 wRC+, .148 ISO vs LHP since 2015) occasionally moves to the top of the lineup vs LHP (unconfirmed) and could serve as an alternate to Corey Seager for a low price ($3.1K DK, $2.3K FD) in Arizona (Corbin .356 wOBA vs RHBs since 2015). Ezequiel Carrera (85 wRC+ vs RHP since 2015) costs just $2.7K on DraftKings.

No shortage of quality inexpensive bats near top of lineup on Monday night

Players looking to play up for pitching or Coors bats should have plenty of cost saving opportunities elsewhere on this slate. Though not yet confirmed, Matt Joyce (121 wRC+, .210 ISO vs RHP since last season) may bat near the top of the Oakland lineup against Ricky Nolasco. He costs less than than $3K on either site, along with teammate Yonder Alonso (339 wRC+, 5 HRs last seven days) for $2.8K on DraftKings. Joey Rickard (127 wRC+, .162 ISO vs LHP career) bats leadoff against Gio Gonzalez for the minimum cost on Fanduel ($1K more on DraftKings). Andrew Toles (123 wRC+, .194 ISO vs RHP) meets that price tag on DraftKings against rookie Trevor Williams. Wilmer Flores (196 wRC+, .381 ISO vs LHP since last season) mashes lefties (Matt Moore) out of the cleanup spot tonight ($3.1K on DK, $2.3K on FD). Teammate T.J. Rivera bats second for less than $3K on either site. Tommy Pham bats further down in the order for the Cardinals, but brings players a 369 wRC+ over the last week for the minimum on FanDuel ($3K on DraftKings). Jordy Mercer (111 wRC+, .185 ISO since last season) may also now hit leadoff for less than $3K against replacement Alex Wood. Looking at below average leadoff bats on the cheap might bring you more towards Wilmer Difo ($3.1K DK, $2.3K FD) and Alcides Escobar ($3K DK, $2.2K FD).

Joc Pederson a low cost leadoff option, Gyorko a cheap cleanup bat for bargain hunters

Eric Thames ($3.8K on DraftKings) and his counterpart, Matt Carpenter ($2.9K on FanDuel), are top value plays tonight and perhaps that's all players will need to find their ideal lineup, but they are certainly not the only low cost bats that can be considered tonight. Josh Reddick (144 wRC+, .171 ISO vs RHP since last year) has a 219 wRC+ over the last week and costs just $3.3K on DK against a struggling Alex Cobb (LHBs .493 wOBA since returning from surgery). FanDuel players could consider a middle of the lineup mini-stack, adding cleanup hitter Jedd Gyorko for $2.5K. He has a 126 wRC+, .301 ISO vs RHP since last season and Wily Peralta has fared not much better against same handed hitters (.348 wOBA) than LHBs (.370 wOBA) since 2015. Joc Pederson ($3.8K DK, $2.5K FD) leads off for the Dodgers in Arizona tonight. He has a 139 wRC+, .269 ISO vs RHP since last year. Jordy Mercer and Guillermo Heredia are minimally priced leadoff options as well, in less friendly spots. Wilmer Difo bats out of the second spot, now against Matt Harvey, for $2.5K or less on either site. Players looking for a punt behind the plate could do worse than James McCann. He has shown immense power against LHP (.292 ISO since last year) and faces one who allows a lot of hard contact to RHBs (37.5% since 2015) and grades out well in the RotoGrinders HR Predictor tonight and costs less than $3K on either site.

Runs expected to be scored today when Boston hosts the Pirates

The Red Sox and Eduardo Rodriguez host the Pirates and Chad Kuhl today in a game that Vegas expects some runs to be scored (9 1/2 run total) with Boston easily winning. Kuhl doesn't have a lot of strikeout upside and gives up a lot of hard contact to left-handed hitters and is an easy fade even on a small afternoon slate. Rodriguez, on the other hand, has some strikeout upside and a low hard contact rate and is a viable SP option, especially on sites that give bonuses for the win. The Pirates do have some hitters that hit LH pitching well so they aren't a team we want to ignore completely. Jordy Mercer (leading off), Andrew McCutchen (3rd), and David Freese (5th) all have good numbers against southpaws and are worth considering for your DFS lineups or as part of a Pirates contrarian stack. Kuhl struggles against LH bats making Andrew Benintendi and Mitch Moreland solid plays from the Red Sox lineup with Marco Hernandez an intriguing value option. We can of course target the RH bats of Mookie Betts, Hanley Ramirez, and Xander Bogaerts to complete a stack.

Value Hunting: Jordy Mercer, J.T. Realmuto, Devon Travis lead the way

We don't have any 'aces' on the hill tonight to pay up for, but that doesn't mean we won't need a few value plays to afford some of the higher end hitters in plus spots. Shortstop is pretty barren towards the top - Corey Seager faces off with John Lackey, one of the tougher arms on the slate, and Carlos Correa will do battle on the road in Seattle, so this is a spot we can feel comfortable punting. Jordy Mercer is priced at just $2,100 on FanDuel and $3,200 on DraftKings out of the leadoff spot against a rookie LHP, and given his splits against LHs (.357 wOBA, .177 ISO), that salary is a bargain. J.T. Realmuto has come out of the gate on fire, recording hits in all six of his starts including four multi-hit games, and he's had fairly strong power numbers against LHP for a catcher (.176 career ISO). The fact that he can run and slots into the two spot in the Marlins order ahead of three very viable bats only helps to further his upside. Last but not least is Devon Travis, who has started slowly this season but has one of the best draws at the 2B spot against reverse-split pitcher Chase Anderson. Travis remains the leadoff man in Toronto and sits at just $2,400 on FanDuel (his $4K price tag on DK isn't as appealing), making him an option in any format. David Freese is another strong punt play out of the clean-up spot for the Pirates, and Marcell Ozuna looks particularly appealing at $3,700 on DraftKings. We also can't forget about the D'Backs value against Matt Cain (Pollock, Peralta and Lamb are all priced at $3.8K or below on DraftKings).

Pirates set up as one of the best main slate value stacks vs. Amir Garrett

The Pirates have one of the higher team totals of the main slate at home against Amir Garrett, and the right-handed heaviness of the Pittsburgh lineup should bode well. Adam Frazier is the only true left-handed bat in the lineup (batting 8th), and a Pirates stack can work with any pitching option on the board given that several options in the heart of the order don't carry high price tags. Amir Garrett looked great in his debut against the Cardinals, shutting them out over six innings, and while he does profile as a plus prospect (2nd in the Reds organization), this draw should be significantly better than the Pirates first meeting with a southpaw (Chris Sale) this season. The value on the Pittsburgh side may be the best place to look, especially considering the Pirates most dangerous RH bat - Starling Marte - owned a .320 wOBA and .101 ISO against LHP in 2016 despite a .407 BABIP (his K% was also nearly twice as high against LHP). Jordy Mercer is priced towards the minimum on most DFS outlets out of the leadoff spot, and given his strong 2016 against southpaws (.357 wOBA, .177 ISO), he's a fine punt play in any format at a typically thin SS spot. David Freese and Francisco Cervelli slot into the 4-5 spots in the order, and both of them have had much more success against LHP over the last year. Andrew McCutchen is clearly an option here as well, although he's coming off of a dreadful year against LHP (.315 wOBA, 97 wRC+).

David Freese (161 wRC+ vs LHP since last season) costs $3K or less on either site tonight

Bargain bats might be difficult to come by on this small five game slate, as there are few minimally priced bats in confirmed lineups tonight, but there are a few options. Jordy Mercer (119 wRC+ vs LHP since last season) leads off in Pittsburgh ($3K DK, $2.1K FD). He is the only batter $3K or less on DraftKings in the top four of a lineup tonight, though David Freese (161 wRC+ vs LHP since last season) costs the same ($2.5K FD), batting fifth. While we'd rather stick to the top half of the lineup even with our cheap bats, Colorado and the Catcher position might be an exception and that's what we find tonight with Luis Torrens ($2.7K DK, $2K FD) batting eighth for the Padres tonight.

Joey Votto and Kris Bryant top non-Coors projected players tonight.

It's no surprise that Charlie Blackmon and Nolan Arenado top the Rotogrinders' projections tonight, but non-Coors players Joey Votto and Kris Bryant sneak into the top five. Both have the platoon advantage, in which situations they've crushed since 2015 (Votto 169 wRC+, .259 ISO - Bryant 155 wRC+, .275 ISO). The top pitchers are no surprise either, though Jon Lester slightly edges deGrom on either site. Tyler Glasnow is the obvious value arm at the min-price on FanDuel, projecting for more than six points per $1K of salary, while it's a bit tougher to extract value on DraftKings. On DraftKings, Kike Hernadez is the only bat to project for more than 2.5 Pt/$/K, so watch to see where he bats against Lester for $2.5K, while both Jordy Merce (3.63) and Neil Walker (3.5) top the Fanduel Pt/$/K projections.
