Larry Fitzgerald Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Larry Fitzgerald inactive today; Chase Edmonds, Maxx Williams and Darrell Daniels active

Larry Fitzgerald is inactive today, while Chase Edmonds, Maxx Williams and Darrell Daniels are all active. The Cardinals are also without Christian Kirk, meaning WRs KeeSean Johnson, Andy Isabella, and Trent Sherfield will be working behind star WR DeAndre Hopkins.

Cardinals 'not optimistic' Larry Fitzgerald plays, but not ruling him out yet

The Cardinals are reportedly not optimistic Larry Fitzgerald plays Sunday, but they are not ruling him out yet. Given that the Cardinals make the playoffs with a win, you have to imagine Fitzgerald will play if at all possible, even if he is limited. If he is ruled out, it is a further boost to KeeSean Johnson and Andy Isabella, while DeAndre Hopkins is the clear top target, as usual. Christian Kirk was already ruled out yesterday, so there should be plenty of opportunity for the active Cardinals.

Kenyan Drake, DeAndre Hopkins active as expected; Andy Isabella inactive

Kenyan Drake and DeAndre Hopkins are both active today, as expected. Andy Isabella is a healthy scratch, a surprising inactive for the WR. Not keeping Isabella active could indicate they're confident in the return of Larry Fitzgerald, and don't feel the need for additional depth.

Larry Fitzgerald tests positive for COVID-19, will not play in Week 12

The Cardinals announced that Fitzgerald has tested positive for COVID-19, and he'll be forced to miss Sunday's Week 12 matchup against the New England Patriots as he needs to isolate himself from the team until he tests negative for five consecutive days with each test at least 24 hours apart. Fitzgerald has played nearly 80% of the Cardinals' offensive snaps and is second to only DeAndre Hopkins in targets this season, so his absence will certainly open more opportunities for the tertiary wide receivers like Andy Isabella and possibly Trent Sherfield in the interim, though it wouldn't be surprising to see Isabella just step directly into Fitzgerald's vacated role. Isabella should theoretically have more upside than Fitzgerald in daily fantasy formats given his downfield ability and appears to be a safe bet for increased volume since he's run approximately 86% of his routes from the slot this season.

Cardinals RB David Johnson (Ankle) Expected to Play Today, WR Christian Kirk (Ankle) Likely Out

This is some of the biggest news of the weekend along with the Packers' injuries at receiver. Cardinals WRs KeeSean Johnson, Trent Sherfield, Andy Isabella, Pharoh Cooper, and RB Chase Edmonds could all see increased opportunityin the passing game with Kirk (ankle) out yet again.

Keeshon Johnson has seen an 18% target share when Kirk has been out and is an excellent value play in all formats, especially if Packers WRs Allen Lazard and Jake Kumerow don't become viable punt options. The matchup for Keeshon Johnson is great, too; the Giants allow the seventh most FPs to wide receivers and are 28th in DVOA against the pass.

Chase Edmonds truthers were teased for a second consecutive week, as David Johnson (ankle) is likely to suit up. David Johnson projects as a nice play especially on Yahoo and FanDuel, where he is a top-six point-per-dollar option.

Ageless Wonder WR in Amazing Spot This Week

Larry Fitzgerald enters Week 6 after disappointing in Week 5 against the Bengals, however he gets another great matchup here that we can take advantage of at a low price point. Christian Kirk might be returning for this one, and while that doesn't help Fitz, I don't think it hurts him very much. Larry Fitz and the Cardinals have been one of the most inefficient teams in the red zone so far this year, so inefficient that I think its about time for some positive regression in this one. So far this season, Kyler Murray has the lowest TD rate of any QB that has started 3+ games, despite averaging nearly 6 RZ pass attempts per game and being third in drop backs. In turn, Fitz is a direct beneficiary of this expected positive regression thanks to his team-high 7 red zone targets. With the Falcons allowing TDs from the red zone at the 8th-highest rate in the NFL, expect Fitz and the rest of this Cardinals offense to bounce back in a big way.

Cardinals WR Andy Isabella Active

All seven WRs on the Cardinals' roster are active for today's game. Isabella could see some snaps on offense, but is likely to be mostly involved in the return game.

Insanely Stackable Game

With the way both teams operate their offenses, the Cardinals/Panthers game should feature one of, if not, the most plays on the entire slate. For their target volume, receivers on both sides still seem underpriced for their potential upside. Pairing Murray with two WRs and running it back with McCaffrey and Olsen feels like the most optimal way of stacking five in this game. While Fitzgerald & Kirk are the top Cardinals receiving options, be aware that Damiere Byrd has had 7 targets in each of the first two games and is still just $3000 on DraftKings. Likely to be under 2% owned, I will be making a conscious effort in GPPs to mix him in, especially since the salary relief helps you immensely to pay up for workhorse RBs in the other slots in your lineups.

Strong Volume, Good Matchup

Things we expected when Kliff Kingsbury took over as the Cardinals Head Coach - fast play and a lot of throwing. While Kingsbury has disappointed in the Red Zone by settling for FGs, he's met our expectations in terms of pace of play (Cardinals rank second in situation neutral pace of play) and passing volume (Kyler leads the league with 94 pass attempts). Larry Fitzgerald has been a direct beneficiary of the coaching change as he ranks sixth in the league in Air Yards (273) and is averaging 12 targets per game. Matchup wise, we couldn't ask for much more as Fitz will avoid Panthers top CB James Bradberry by lining up in the slot against Javien Elliott. The 6'3" 218 lbs Fitzgerald will have a massive size advantage on the 5'11" 176 lbs Elliott who has allowed a reception every time he's been targeted (6) this season. We currently have Fitzgerald projected for just single-digit ownership on both FanDuel and DraftKings but that number could balloon depending on the Eagle's WR injury situation. Regardless of expected ownership, Fitz's expected volume in a good matchup makes him a tremendous option in all formats.

Sneaky buy-low opportunity on a hall of fame wideout

The offensive struggles of the Arizona Cardinals have been no secret thus far, but with the firing of offensive coordinator Mike McCoy and the insertion of Bruce Arians' understudy Byron Leftwich, there is some optimism about the offense this week against the 49ers. It appears, however, that most of that optimism is being directed towards David Johnson, leaving Larry Fitzgerald extremely cheap and potentially low-owned. Per the FanShare Buzz Tool on LHQ, Fitzgerald has drawn little attention around the DFS industry this week, despite the fact that Leftwich has expressed a desire to get Fitzgerald more involved in the offensive attack. While many flock to David Johnson as the primary beneficiary of the OC change, consider Fitzgerald as a punt wide receiver that historically possesses a solid floor and ceiling for his low price point.
