Boban Marjanovic will start ahead of Marcin Gortat on Wednesday
Head coach Doc Rivers has opted to make an unforeseen starting lineup change for Wednesday's matchup against the Sacramento Kings and will start Boban Marjanovic ahead of Marcin Gortat at center. Gortat has averaged just 16.7 minutes over the Clippers last seven games, so his demotion from the starting unit won’t necessarily free up a bunch of playing time in the frontcourt, and Boban will likely assume nearly all of Gortat's playing time allotment and should be expected to play minutes in the mid or upper-teens this evening. Boban is always worth a shot in tournaments with his 26.8% usage rate and an average of 1.43 DraftKings and 1.46 FanDuel points per minute, but Montrezl Harrell could also be an interesting tournament play, especially if tonight’s game goes small for extended stretches with Marvin Bagley III unavailable for the Kings.
Lou Williams (hamstring) likely out 1-2 weeks; Marcin Gortat starts ahead of Boban Marjanovic on Tuesday
Williams has officially been downgraded from questionable and won't play in Tuesday’s matchup against the Toronto Raptors due to a sore left hamstring that limited him to just 12 minutes in Monday’s overtime win. Additionally, head coach Doc Rivers disclosed to reports that he believes Williams will be sidelined for one-to-two weeks with his aforementioned hamstring injury. His absence enabled Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Avery Bradley, and Patrick Beverley to all log at least 33 minutes in the previous contest, while Milos Teodosic saw the court for the first time in four games and played 12 minutes off the bench as well. Gilgeous-Alexander stands to benefit the most in terms of playing time with Williams unable to suit up, and he’s priced cheap enough across the industry that he could easily exceed his implied value, despite owning just a 20.1% usage rate and averaging only 0.85 Draftkings and 0.87 FanDuel points per minute with Williams off the floor this season.
Boban Marjanovic will start ahead of Marcin Gortat on Saturday
Head coach Doc Rivers has opted to make an unforeseen starting lineup change for Saturday's matchup against the Miami Heat and will start Boban Marjanovic ahead of Marcin Gortat at center. Gortat has played between 15-21 minutes in each of the last four games, so his absence won’t necessarily free up a bunch of playing time in the frontcourt, though Boban will likely assume Gortat's exact playing time allotment and should be expected to play minutes in the upper-teens this evening. Boban is always worth a shot in tournaments with his 26.1% usage rate and an average of 1.54 DraftKings and 1.57 FanDuel points per minute, but Montrezl Harrell could also be an interesting tournament play, especially if tonight’s game goes small for extended stretches with Hassan Whiteside unavailable for the Heat.
Marcin Gortat (back) says he's "good to play" Thursday
Gortat confirmed with reporters that he's good to go and will be available to play in Thursday's matchup against the Sacramento Kings despite dealing with back spasms that forced him to miss Wednesday's win. There's been no word that Gortat will be subject to a minute restriction, so he'll presumably assume his normal role in the starting lineup at center, which will send Boban Marjanovic back to the bench following his impressive fantasy performance in 19 minutes of action in his spot start. Gortat has played between 15-18 minutes in each of his last five games, so he obviously remains out of fantasy consideration himself, and his presence in the rotation renders Boban useless for daily fantasy formats as the big man has been a DNP-CD in five of the Clippers last eight games.
Marcin Gortat (back) questionable Thursday
Gortat is officially questionable for Thursday's matchup against the Sacramento Kings due to back spasms that already forced him to miss Wednesday's win. The Clippers did recall Jonathan Motley from the G-League earlier this afternoon, so that doesn't bode well for the possibility of a return this evening. Gortat has played between 15-18 minutes in each of his last five games, so his potential absence won't necessarily free up a bunch of playing time in the frontcourt, though Boban Marjanovic would likely continue to assume the role as the starting center and should be expected to play minutes in the upper-teens. Boban is always worth a shot in tournaments with his 25.5% usage rate and an average of 1.47 DraftKings and 1.52 FanDuel points per minute, but Montrezl Harrell could be an interesting tournament play as well, especially with Sacramento preferring to utilize big lineup combinations with Willie Cauley-Stein, Marvin Bagley, and Harry Giles all logging substantial minutes in the frontcourt.
Marcin Gortat (back) out Wednesday
Gortat is a late addition to the Clippers' injury report and won't play in Wednesday's matchup against the Phoenix Suns due to back spasms he began experiencing this morning and flared up again while he was going through pregame warmups. Gortat has played between 15-18 minutes in each of the last five games, so his absence won't necessarily free up a bunch of playing time in the frontcourt, though Boban Marjanovic will likely assume his role as the starting center and should be expected to play minutes in the upper-teens. Boban is always worth a shot in tournaments with his 24.1% usage rate and an average of 1.37 DraftKings and 1.43 FanDuel points per minute, but Montrezl Harrell could be an interesting tournament play as well, especially of tonight's game goes small for extended stretches.
Marcin Gortat will start ahead of Boban Marjanovic on Saturday
Gortat will reenter the Clippers starting lineup and will start at center in Saturday's matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks, which sends Boban Marjanovic back to the bench to resume a reserve role. This will be Gortat's first game action since November 1st, so it remains unclear if this is just a matchup-based lineup decision or a long-term change. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander remains cheap across the industry, so he should be a relatively popular option given his ability to rack up peripheral statistics despite a low 15.8% usage rate on the offensive end of the floor. Lou Williams has also seen a slight bump in minutes sans Avery Bradley and Luc Mbah a Moute, and he leads the Clippers by a wide margin with a 34.7% usage rate and is averaging 1.27 DraftKings and 1.21 FanDuel points per minute with them off the court this season.
Boban Marjanovic will "most likely" start tonight
Boban Marjanovic will "most likely" start tonight, marking his third straight game with the starters. We'll still want to confirm this closer to tip-off, but the Clippers interior defense had been lacking in the first eight games and while Boban hasn't had a ton of sustained success slowing Embiid or Towns in recent matchups, he really clogs the lane and makes it tough for teams to get anything easy inside. Boban didn't cross the 20 minute mark in his last start, but he'd likely be in store for 20-25 minutes assuming he gets the nod here. Montrezl Harrell is still squarely on the GPP radar with Gortat seemingly out of the rotation and Harrell producing at an elite per-minute rate.
Marcin Gortat dealing with undisclosed injury, may be unable to play Friday
Gortat didn't appear on the most recent version of the Clippers injury report, but he is reportedly dealing with an undisclosed injury and his status for Friday's matchup against the Orlando Magic is uncertain. Gortat was limited to just nine minutes in Thursday's loss to the Sixers after being thoroughly dominated by Joel Embiid on both ends of the floor. Head coach Doc Rivers implied to reporters that he may make a change to his starting lineup for tonight's contest but it remains unclear if that lineup decision is directly correlated to Gortat's possible unavailability. If Gortat is ruled out closer to tipoff, Montrezl Harrell and Boban Marjanovic would absorb a majority of the vacated minutes at center, just as they did in yesterday's loss.
Value at Center
There have been five games played in this series so far. If we take out the one game where Marcin Gortat got into early foul trouble, he has averaged 29 minutes and 23 fantasy points in the other four. Basically, he has offered a high floor for a player priced below $5,000 on both FanDuel and DraftKings. With their season on the line, I wouldn't be surprised if Gortat played minutes in the low-30s tonight, especially if he is productive early.
