Mark Reynolds Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Rockies have an implied total over 7 this afternoon vs. Margevicius in Coors

Margevicius is another pitcher (like Eric Lauer yesterday) that just isn’t cut out for Coors given the tiny 16.2% K rate and 9.6% SwStr. Overall, Margevicius has a 5.02 ERA, 4.91 xFIP, 5.03 SIERA, 9.2% K-BB and 37.8% hard contact. He’s also allowed a .346 xwOBA on the year with a 7.6% barrel rate and 87.1 MPH aEV. Charlie Blackmon (.366 xwOBA vs. LHP this year), Nolan Arenado (.358), Ian Desmond (.418), David Dahl (.412), Trevor Story (.321), Ryan McMahon (.335), Chris Iannetta (.321) and Mark Reynolds (.279) are all the projected batters in the Rockies lineup this afternoon and they are all in play given the matchup in Coors. Iannetta has the highest xwOBA over the past 14 days with a .453 mark, followed by Charlie Blackmon (.449) and David Dahl (.377). The Rockies currently have a 7.14 implied total versus Margevicius and the Padres today.

Daniel Murphy scratched Saturday; Mark Reynolds replaces

Murphy has been scratched from the Colorado Rockies original confirmed lineup and will not start in Saturday’s matchup against the San Diego Padres due to a presently unspecified reason. He’ll be replaced in the lineup by Mark Reynolds, who will now play first base and slot into the seventh spot in the order, which shuffles quite a few players around in the Rockies batting order but, most notably, bumps Ian Desmond and Ryan McMahon up to fifth and sixth, respectively. Therefore, be sure to double-check the Starting Lineups page for the updated lineup as Colorado faces off against left-hander Eric Lauer at home this evening.

Left-Handers Face a Difficult Task Taking On This Lineup In Their Home Ballpark

Coors Field can be dangerous for any pitcher, but left-handers especially have a difficult time getting through the Rockies lineup due to the presence of Nolan Arenado, Trevor Story, and Mark Reynolds. Arenado has crushed left-handers at home with a .372 batting average, 39 HRs in 462 ABs, and a 1.191 OPS. Trevor Story is almost as dangerous with a 1.143 OPS versus left-handers at home, while Mark Reynolds has a .852 OPS in his career at home against left-handers. Tonight the Rockies face Eric Lauer and the Padres as strong -165 favorites in a game with a 10+ run total, making any of the Rockies dangerous right-handed power hitters usable as a one-off player in GPPs or the entire group usable as a stack.

Value in Rox Lineup Despite Coors Pricing

Facing Aaron Nola in Coors field Friday, there are a decent amount of value options in the Rockies’ lineup, especially on Draftkings where pricing has been tight. The matchup won’t be easy facing Aaron Nola, but Nola hasn’t looked like himself so far this year with a 7.45 ERA / 4.85 SIERA and just a 9.2 K-BB%. Mark Reynolds is batting 5th and is just $3.7k on DK, Reynolds had a 112 wRC+ last year and is still a plenty serviceable option. Raimel Tapia will follow him in the order as is the same price. Tapia is just a 73 wRC+ hitter in the bigs but has flashed upside in the minors and has SB upside. Garret Hampson will hit 7th at just $3.4k and is similar to Tapia with limited pop but SB upside. They are all good bets to hit value given the environment and not-so-tough matchup with a struggling Nola. Even David Dahl ($4.7k, career 115 wRC+) and Ryan McMahon ($4.5k, 103 wRC+ this year) feel a tad underpriced as top of the order guys in Coors. The Rox have a 4.85 implied total tonight vs. Nola.

Anthony Rendon (hand) scratched Saturday; Mark Reynolds replaces

Rendon has been scratched from the Nationals original confirmed lineup and will not start in Saturday’s matchup against the Chicago Cubs due to a hand injury he sustained when hit by a pitch during Friday's loss. He’ll be replaced in the lineup by Mark Reynolds, who will play third base and slot into the sixth spot in the order, which bumps Ryan Zimmerman up two spots to fourth and Bryce Harper up one batting position to third, respectively. It goes without saying that there have been some noteworthy changes to this Nationals order, so be sure to check out the updated lineup on the Starting Lineups page as they face off against left-hander Jon Lester on the road this afternoon.

Value Play With Upside

It is a weird day for value on DraftKings and FantasyDraft, so with limited options, I'm looking to attack upside hitters more than average hitters. Mark Reynolds has broken a few slates already this season and draws a good matchup tonight against Matz, who continues to struggle with right-handed hitters. He has a .328 wOBA with a .212 ISO and a 38.3% hard-hit rate allowed. Matz is throwing his sinker 59% of the time this season, and since 2016, Reynolds has a .421 wOBA against sinkers. He also has a .360 wOBA with a 91.9 average exit velocity against left-handed pitching this season.

RHBs have a ground ball rate 20 points lower and hard hit rate 20 points higher since last year vs this pitcher

A 4.24 implied run line isn't much to brag about, but it's third best on the board tonight. Steven Matz could be a useful SP2 on DraftKings for less than $6K, as he has been pitching well enough lately (3.29 FIP, .304 xwOBA last 30 days), but players not using him, who still somehow have salary to spare, should consider Washington bats in this spot. Matz owns a significant split since last season (RHBs .343 wOBA, LHBs .309 wOBA with an xwOBA less than 20 points different). Also, RHBs have a hard contact rate (36.9%) some 20 points higher and a ground ball rate (45.1%) 20 points lower against Matz since last season. While that removes the left-handed portion of the Washington lineup, Juan Soto is interesting for two reasons. First, his 199 wRC+, .390 xwOBA, and .311 ISO vs LHP. These are small sample numbers, but eye popping for sure. The other is that once Matz is out of the game, the Mets don't really have a LH reliever who's been successful against LHBs this year. Mark Reynolds (139 wRC+, .240 ISO) has bolstered his numbers against southpaws with three HRs in 14 PAs overall in the past week and may be the value bat in this lineup for less than $4.5K on DK or just $3.2K on FanDuel. Anthony Rendon (134 wRC+, .252 ISO) is the more consistent bat. Trea Turner (125 wRC+, .131 ISO) will likely be able to run at will on Matz should he reach base.

A High Upside Stack

Steven Matz has been pitching better of late, but this Nationals offense has shown their upside on plenty of occasions over the last few weeks. They have plenty of hitters who are capable of hitting left-handed pitching well, and we know that Matz can implode at times. Mark Reynolds had ten RBI the other night against a lefty, and while I wouldn't go expecting that again, there's clear upside with this stack. I'll side with the RHBs first because Matz has been solid against same-handed hitters, but don't be afraid to throw Harper and/or Soto into a full team stack.

Wei-Yin Chen still has a 1.8% K-BB% and 6.02 xFIP versus RHB, even with positive results in last two starts

Chen is in search of a third straight quality start as he takes the mound in a road outing against the Washington Nationals on Saturday night, but he's generally pitched poorly outside a couple of outlier outings, as evidenced by a 5.55 ERA and an inability to make it past the fifth inning in over half of his 2018 appearances. Chen has been absolutely shelled in several of those starts, and those shellackings are still currently reflected in his 5.11 xFIP and 4.99 SIERA, numbers that appear to be well-deserved considering Chen has been relatively on par with his career averages with a .301 BABIP and 68.8% left-on-base-percentage thus far. A large majority of his troubles are stemming from significant control issues (9.1% BB%) that had initially led him to walk more batters than he struck for a brief stretch after being activated from the disabled list, and on top of that, both right-handed and left-handed hitters have combined to generate hard contact 35.5% of the time, which becomes a recipe for disaster when combined with a 42.4% fly ball rate and uninspiring 16.7% strikeout rate. The lack of command to batters on both sides of the plate makes this Nationals offense an intriguing one to target in all formats, especially with a lineup chock full of capable right-handed bats and two elite talents in Juan Soto and Bryce Harper swinging from the left-side of the plate. Even though Washington has consistently been a frustrating team to play, Anthony Rendon (47.4% HH%, 0.628 xwOBA, 0.233 ISO vs LHP) remains the obvious top option of any Nationals hitter given his strong splits against left-handed pitching, but he's closely followed by Soto (40.6% HH%, 0.457 xwOBA, 0.341 ISO vs LHP) and Harper (0.440 xwOBA, 0.190 ISO vs LHP), both of whom may be overlooked by the masses due to the absence of a platoon advantage, despite their own promising numbers against lefties this season. Then, just a tier below, Trea Turner (0.408 xwOBA vs LHP), Mark Reynolds (39.3% HH%, 0.413 xwOBA vs LHP), and Michael Taylor (40.4% HH%, 0.383 xwOBA vs LHP) are all perfectly fine options as members of a stack to round out lineups in large-field tournament formats this evening.

Cheap Exposure To High Powered Offense

Coming off his walk off home run last night, Mark Reynolds provides cheap power in a potent lineup. It's tough to get exposure to this Nationals offense but luckily Reynolds is only $2600 on FanDuel and $3700 on DraftKings. He is the best way to get exposure against Chen for cheap if you are paying up at pitching. Chen is certainly worth targeting, coming in with a 5.12 xFIP and allowing a .346 wOBA and a .197 ISO to right handed hitters this season.
