Colts will split first-team reps between Jacoby Brissett and Scott Tolzien in practice this week

Indianapolis hasn't decided who they'll start under center in Week 2; it looks like they'll open up a competition in practice this week. The Colts were terrible in Week 1 and their offense was paralyzed with Scott Tolzien at the helm. The quarterback finished with 128 yards, zero scores, and two picks on a 50% completion rate. As a team, they ran just 49 plays and only picked up ten first downs the entire afternoon. Tolzien was benched for Brissett during the game and it appears Brissett, who completed 2-of-3 passes for 51 yards, has the edge to start in Week 2 against the Cardinals. He did well in Week 4 of the preseason with New England, piling up 341 yards and four scores on a 71.8% completion rate against the Giants. He made three appearances and two starts last year, accumulating 400 yards with no scores and no interceptions. He's also a capable runner - he picked up 83 yards on 16 carries in 2016. If he starts, it would appear to be an upgrade over Tolzien, even with a limited playbook.

Colts have already ruled out Andrew Luck for Week 2

Andrew Luck (shoulder) ruled out for Week 1; Scott Tolzien will start

Luck, who's still rehabbing his shoulder, will be on the sidelines for the Colts season opener against the Rams this Sunday. Scott Tolzien will earn the start, which is a clear downgrade for receivers like T.Y. Hilton and Donte Moncrief. Over the past two seasons, Hilton has averaged 16.69 PPR points across 22 games with Luck at QB (9.77 targets, 5.41 receptions, 88.27 yards, and 0.41 touchdowns), but that number has dropped substantially in the ten games he's played without him to 11.6 PPR points (7.4 targets, 4.1 receptions, 63.0 yards, and 0.2 touchdowns). In Tolzien's lone start last season, Hilton hauled in three of five targets for 54 scoreless yards. The backup QB favored Moncrief in that matchup with the Steelers, peppering him with 11 targets, which the receiver converted into a 6/45/1 line. Tolzien aimed for a tight end on ten occasions. Although just two went Jack Doyle's way, the other eight went to Dwyane Allen, who's no longer with the team, and to Erik Swoope, who's been placed on the IR. Tolzien was much more effective when throwing to that position as the trio combined for eight receptions, 109 yards, and a score on those ten opportunities. The game total has dropped two points to 42 points since Luck was ruled out earlier this morning, providing the Colts an implied total of 19.5 points, the third-lowest this week - it wouldn't be surprising to see that drop lower as bettors have more time to react to the news. With Tolzien at the helm, the Rams defense may be a more appealing target than the Colts' offensive players.

Andrew Luck officially OUT against Steelers

Adam Schefter confirms that Luck (concussion) will not play on Thanksgiving when the Colts host the Steelers. This leaves Scott Tolzien as the starting quarterback for Indianapolis. He hasn't started a game since he filled in for Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay three times back in 2013. He was benched in the third one, but during his two full games he averaged 309.5 yards, 0.5 touchdowns, and 2.5 interceptions. With the Colts entering the game as 8-point underdogs, Tolzien should be throwing quite a bit. While he should be able to rack up yards, the question is whether he can produce more touchdowns than interceptions or not. Given his price and expected game flow, he's a possible tournament option on Thanksgiving slates. However, he'll be stuck behind a horrendous offensive line (Football Outsiders ranks them dead last in pass protection) and has a 1:5 touchdown to interception ratio in his career. The Pittsburgh DST is definitely the safer bet and will be a chalky play tomorrow.

Andrew Luck OUT this Thanksgiving Day; Scott Tolzien will start

T.Y. Hilton told local media that the team was informed today that Luck would not play this Thursday and that Tolzien will be their starting QB. Tolzien is a value option, albeit an extremely risky one, for those playing the Turkey Day three game slate. The Steelers DST also becomes a viable play with the unproven Tolzien at the helm.

No sign of Andrew Luck at practice

It appears unlikely that the Colts QB will play on Thanksgiving Day as he missed the teams last practice and is in the NFL concussion protocol. Scott Tolzien will get the start if Luck can't go which would make the normally shaky Steelers DST a viable option.

Andrew Luck is in the concussion protocol

It appears that Luck suffered a concussion at some point during the fourth quarter on Sunday, but didn't experience symptoms until later in the night. His chances of playing in Week 12 are in serious doubt with the Colts scheduled to play the Steelers on Thanksgiving. It wouldn't be wise to roster him on Monday-Thursday slates on sites where lineups lock tonight; it will be hard for him to be cleared in time. If he can't go, Scott Tolzien would be the Colts' quarterback, which will be a downgrade to the rest of the Colts' offense. We'll know more tomorrow.
