Alex Iafallo Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
This players' return to the NHL has started a bit slow.
Ilya Kovalchuk has just one goal and three points in five games since returning to the NHL. However, he's playing on the top line with Anze Kopitar as well as the top power play unit (though he could be on PP2 tonight). Furthermore, he's fired 17 shots on goal and with Sparks struggles at the NHL level there is plenty of upside tonight. With the Kings lines in a bit of a blender and concerns that Kovalchuk could be on the second power play unit, his ownership might be a bit lower than usual.
Fresh off a four goal night, this centre is in another position for a big game
Hopefully Anze Kopitar doesn’t have inflated ownership tonight because he is coming off of a four-goal night. It is unlikely, to be honest, because the Kings rarely see very high ownership on a full-slate and especially not on a slate with as many studs as tonight. However, this is a great matchup for him and the Kings as they visit Edmonton to take on the Oilers. Edmonton has been terrible at shot suppression or preventing scoring chances. Over their last 10 games they have allowed a 61.9 CA/60 which is sixth worst in the NHL as well as a 33.55 SCA/60 which is the second worst in the league. Kopitar will be lining up with Dustin Brown and Alex Iafallo, The full line stack is in play, but if you want to use a mini-stack then going with Kopitar and Brown is the way to go as they stick together on the top power play unit.
Low-owned option on the wing in Chicago
Alex Iafallo has accumulated a modest 20 points (6 goals, 14 assists) in his first 56 career games, but he and the Kings draw an excellent matchup against a Chicago team that is far from the elite team they were over the last handful of years. The Blackhawks are coming off their best effort Saturday night when they pounded the Washington Capitals, but the Kings pose a different sort of challenge. Among forwards on the Kings, Alex Iafallo sports the best CF% (52.84) at 5 on 5. Additionally, he has come out of the All-Star Break with five points in eight games and has registered two or more shots on goal in seven consecutive games. Iafallo sees consistent ice time and makes for a nice source of salary relief, especially in tournaments. Chicago has allowed 3.67 goals per game this month in large part to their goaltenders porous .864 SV%, which is by far the worst in the National Hockey League.
Late Night Hammer
With a combined 44 points in their first 17 games, the Kings top line featuring Anze Kopitar, Dustin Brown, and rookie Alex Iafallo has been a driving force in the LA's hot start to the year. A matchup against a stingy Vancouver squad may seem risky, but this team can be exposed away from home ice and allows too many scoring chances for their own good. Also featured on LA's top power play unit, look for the Kings top line to break through on the man advantage tonight against Vancouver's 24th ranked penalty kill in a game the Kings should control from start to finish.
Important role for this rookie winger
Playing partners often create value in DFS hockey, and that's certainly the case for Iaffalo as he's been fortunate enough to play alongside Anze Kopitar (and Dustin Brown) on the King's top forward line. The rookie picked up a pair of assists against Columbus over the weekend and is proving a fine floor thanks to his consistent shot volume (at least 2 SOG in each of the last four games). This line will be counted on heavily with Jeff Carter sidelined, and Iaffalo's production at the University of Minnesota-Duluth suggest he's ready for the opportunity.
