Alexander Edler Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Blue liner should start soaking up minutes again soon

It's just Edler's third game back after missing nearly a month, but given the Canucks' lack of depth on the blue line, Edler should start seeing 25-plus minutes again. Even if he doesn't see that tonight, he can contribute in a variety of ways. Edler is not shy about blocking shots, and he should have his fair share in this up-tempo affair with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Additionally, Edler is the quarterback on Vancouver's top power play. Alex checks in at just $4,000 on FanDuel which is far too cheap. He is a great play in all formats. On DraftKings ($5,200), Edler is priced more appropriately and will see little ownership there consequently.

Cheap blue liner continues to produce

With some more expensive names at the top of the list tonight like Brent Burns, Erik Karlsson and Mark Giordano, someone like Alexander Edler can slip through the cracks. Edler was productive in December after making his way back from injury in November. Last month Edler potted three goals and dished out six assists in 14 games. He blocks shots and shoots the puck, and at just $4,600 on FanDuel and $5,200 on DraftKings, Edler is a strong option in all formats.

Veteran blue liner a strong play in all formats

With the Canucks depth on the blue line lacking, and particularly now with Troy Stecher being out, Edler logged a season-high of 30:05 in a 5-2 loss to Tampa Bay last time out. In the game prior to that, Edler burned the Oilers for a goal and an assist in 25 minutes. Less than two weeks ago the Canucks went into St. Louis and bombarded the Blues in a 6-1 win. While it is unrealistic to expect the same tonight, Edler is a fine play in all formats. Edler is $5,200 on DraftKings and a very attractive $4,500 on FanDuel. Even if he doesn't find the scoresheet, Alex is averaging roughly two shots on goal and three blocked shots per game which gives him a nice floor. Use him.

Take A Stroll Down Narrative Street With This Veteran Trio

Recently announcing their retirement following the end of the regular season, future hall of famers Henrik and Daniel Sedin will be playing their last home game tonight. The Sedins have been masters of cycling the puck down low in the offensive zone for years, which creates high percentage scoring opportunities for forwards like Daniel and his team-leading 174 shots on goal supports this notion. A matchup against an improved Arizona team may seem risky, but with nothing to play for at this point during the season, I like the Sedin's chances of paying off their reasonable salaries in what expects to be an emotional evening in Vancouver tonight.

This defenseman has been an unexpected daily fantasy stud

Alexander Edler of the Vancouver Canucks has quietly been an absolute stud for daily fantasy purposes. He provides some offence, some blocks, some shots. He produces across the board and the peripherals he brings gives him not only a high floor, but a high-ceiling in games that he gets on the scoresheet. He has been especially valuable over his last 10 games picking up three goals, six points, 32 blocks and 24 shots on goal for an average of 4.3 DraftKings points per game. The Canucks are taking on the St. Louis Blues tonight and are big time underdogs. With that in mind, I expect the Blues to take a ton of shots which could allow Edler to rack up the blocks. If he gets on the scoresheet tonight against a Blues team that is fighting for their playoff lives then he will be every bit worth his price tag.

Blue Line Options

If you can afford to pay up tonight, John Klingberg is my top option. The Ottawa Senators inept defense and weak penalty kill should allow Klingberg to post a multi-point game. The Buffalo Sabers are weak offensive team, but they will have plenty of chances tonight against a Toronto Maple Leafs team that plays high-event hockey, and that puts Rasmus Ristolainen on the radar for all formats. The Sabres power play quarterback checks all the DFS boxes and he logs over 26 minutes of ice time per game. I rarely target the overrated Alexander Edler, but I will definitely have some shares tonight as the Vancouver Canucks host the National Hockey Leagues worst defensive team. The New York Islanders inability to play defense or kill penalties, opens up the door for Edler to have a big game.

Defensemen like this that produce across the board are quite valuable

Alexander Edler is one of the few defenseman in the league the provide stats across the board. He provides you with 2.77 blocks per game, 2.47 shots per game, 0.47 points per game, all of which provide you with 3.6 DraftKings points per game. This is good for second best on the slate among defense, which explains his inflated salary. It is certainly tough to pay up for Edler, especially on DraftKings, but the high floor combined with high ceiling he provides if he were to pick up a point or two along with his peripheral stats make him not only a great cash game play but an elite tournament play too. This is a three game slate, which makes it easier to pay up for a guy like Edler and with the Canucks defensive deficiencies as well as the offensive talent on Florida, Edler could be in the position to block plenty of shots.

Edler's Power Play Role Could Pay Off Tonight

Perhaps quietly (depending on your local NHL market), Edler has been a highly productive blueliner for the Canucks. Logging well over 22 minutes on ice per night via heavy 5v5 usage and a role on the top power play unit, Edler has been the go-to defender for Vancouver to funnel offense through. He enters a matchup with the Jets posting at least one point in five straight games, but he also been providing a decent floor due to some high shot totals of late. The Jets may be stingy at 5v5, but they remain a liability on the penalty kill where they are among the worst teams in the league at suppressing shot attempts and scoring chances to opposing offenses. Edler comes at a nice Canuck discount, making him a solid mid-tier blueline option tonight.

Edler a Sneaky Play Sunday

Edler may not seem like it but he is something of a decent floor play. He plays more minutes per night than I am willing to do on a treadmill and he skates on the top power play unit. The Rangers have the worst penalty killing unit going tonight, as they enter the night with the second highest ratios in both scoring chances and high-danger shot attempts allowed per hour. Edler has an assist in three straight games, can get multiple pucks to the net, and will also block a shot here in there. He is unlikely to sink your roster based on his price, and his upside in a favorable matchup makes him a great blueline play tonight.
