Alexander Noren Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Alex Noren looks to ride the hot hand

Alex Noren will need a bit more magic if he plans to make his first-ever trip to East Lake next week. Looking to build on 4 straight top 22 or better finishes, Noren enters the BMW Championship in the 47th position in this year's FedEx Cup race. Momentum is everything at this point of the season, and Noren is simply playing his best golf of the year at the right time. For those who don't follow the world of golf closely, it's easy to overlook the pedigree of this former Oklahoma State Cowboy. Playing more on the PGA Tour over the last few years has been an adjustment of sorts for Noren but with 10 European victories under his belt, this top 90 player in the world knows what it takes to compete at the highest level of professional golf.

Vaughn Taylor is no longer in the field

For the second straight week, Vaughn Taylor has decided to withdraw from a tournament. A nagging rib injury will keep Taylor sidelined at least another week. Taylor has been replaced in the field by Alex Noren. At this late of a junction, we could see Noren added to the round 2 showdown slate, but should not expect to see him in any full week contests

Under the Radar Play that Could Contend

I honestly can't remember the last time I recommended Noren and there's a decent chance that he's never made my core plays article. The narrative around him is that he doesn't play well on American soil and that he's in bad form. Both of those are untrue, as he racked up five straight top 21 finishes on the European Tour two years ago (with his best finishes coming in California). It's really been a form issue and that's slowly starting to turn around. He has made 12 of his last 13 cuts on the PGA Tour and has four top 35 finishes in his last five events worldwide. At last week's Sony Open, he gained over seven strokes tee to green, he just didn't have any luck with the putter. If he didn't lose four strokes on the greens, he could have easily found himself inside the top 10. I don't expect many to click his name this week, even though he's one of the most talented golfers in the field. I'm eating chalk elsewhere, so I hope to gain some leverage with Noren.

Alex Noren still searching for his breakthrough on American soil

With 10 career European victories on his resume, Alex Noren has that winning upside we look for in terms of DFS. Fueled by a couple of strong top end finishes Noren played well enough in 18 starts last season to make a deep run in The FedEx Cup Race. Unfortunately, the 2019 season has yet to yield those types of results leaving Noren in the position of having to play great golf the rest of the way just to make it into the first part of the playoff race. Noren comes into this week with a bit of momentum as he as gained strokes on the field tee to green in his last four starts. Priced down due to his less than stellar play this season, Noren stands out as a value play worth targeting this week. With a game that appears to be trending in the right direction in terms of metrics Noren becomes a player you can not only target for value but also for upside. With six of his ten European wins coming since the start of the 2016 season, Noren is a player with a strong pedigree making him an appealing value option for The RBC Canadian Open.

The Salary Remains Affordable

Noren went into a very surprising tailspin starting about eight months ago, and he posted underwhelming result after underwhelming result for months. It was quite a shock for a player with as much upside as he has shown over the last few seasons. He still hasn’t gotten back to that kind of upside, but the trends are slowly turning. He has currently made five consecutive cuts on Tour, including at both majors (The Masters and the PGA Championship) that have been held this year. He ranks above field average in ball striking, but his approach game has lagged this season. That is the key. If he can continue the turnaround in that department, where he has improved in recent events, he has the overall talent and short game ability to contend here. I’ll take plenty of GPP shots, as this could be one of the final chances to get Noren at a discount. Buy low while you still can.

Becoming a Little Chalky

Perhaps the reason why Casey is flying a bit under the radar is the fact that Noren’s buzz continues to grow and grow. There are a few personalities in the industry that tend to drive ownership and that tend to lower betting odds (which also drive ownership). Everyone seems to be on Noren this week, so I expect his ownership to be one of the highest in the field. He’s coming off of a win at the Open De France, which is his sixth in Europe in the last two seasons (nobody else has more than four). He’s a golfer that is solid in all aspects of his game, which makes him a great fit for Carnoustie (which he has played many times). Noren’s best golf hasn’t shown up in the states just yet, but that doesn’t matter. The Open Championship is in Scotland this week, so he will feel right at home with these conditions. He’s made the cut in his last two Opens, highlighted by a T6 at Royal Burkdale last season.

World Class Golfer at a Discounted Price

Noren feels underpriced this week. I never thought I’d see the day where Noren and DeChambeau were priced similarly and Noren was expected to be the lower owned of the two. He’s strong off the tee, he’s great with his irons, and he can score on the par fives. He’s actually ranked 29th in the field in strokes gained putting too, which is never a bad thing. Everything checks out for Noren this week, including the fact that he made the cut here at the PGA Championship. Much like Fleetwood, Noren is much more comfortable playing in America after spending most of the year playing on the PGA Tour.
