Alfred Blue Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
RB Lamar Miller (ankle) "trending upwards" for Week 17
Texans Head Coach Bill O'Brien was mildly optimistic about Miller's chances of playing in the team's final regular season game. Fellow backs Alfred Blue and D'Onta Foreman split the workload evenly in Week 16, though both were terribly unproductive in the rushing department combining for 13 yards on 11 carries. Miller would take back over lead duties if he's able to suit up in Week 17.
Keke Coutee, Lamar Miller don't travel with Texans, ruled out for Sunday
Keke Coutee, Lamar Miller don't travel with Texans, ruled out for Sunday. With Miller out, Alfred Blue figures to step into a featured role. He becomes a viable value play at RB in any format, but doesn't have the same type of explosiveness as Miller, however, Blue is a heavier back that is better-suited in-close. The targets in the Texans passing game should be funnelled primarily to DeAndre Hopkins and Demaryius Thomas.
Texans activate RB D'Onta Foreman from PUP list
The Texans had a 21-day window to activate Foreman after his window to practice opened up, and that deadline was tomorrow so this move isn't surprising. It is still a little unclear what Foreman's role will be when he returns, and it's fully possible that he doesn't have a game-day role with Lamar Miller and Alfred Blue working admirably in his stead. John McClain seems to think there is a decent shot Foreman is inactive unless one of those two suffer an injury. Either way, he's not a DFS option with Miller leading the charge.
RB Lamar Miller (chest) confirms he'll play in Week 6
The veteran back said he's "definitely" going to play Sunday against the Bills. Alfred Blue handled 28 touches in Week 5 but Miller is expected to take over the lead back duties again. However, given Blue's adequacy and Miller's struggles so far this season it would not be surprising to see closer to an even timeshare moving forward as opposed to the 75-25 split seen in Weeks 1-4.
Alfred Blue expected to miss Sunday
The absence of a noneffective back up player is usually not worth noting, but Blue's absence should open up a path for pass catching expert Andre Ellington to receive a bigger role moving forward. In addition to the work received as a back up running back, Ellington should see some work as a slot receiver this weekend. With injuries to Bruce Ellington and Braxton Miller, the Texans lined up Ellington 37 times in the slot last week allowing this pass-catching back to turn 6 targets into a 5-56 line. With chance to get work in both the passing and running game, Ellington should be work a look at $3,600 on DraftKings.
Alfred Blue (hamstring) inactive Sunday
Blue is inactive for today's game against the Arizona Cardinals after previously being listed as questionable on the Houston Texans' injury report with a hamstring injury. This means that Lamar Miller should work as the Texans primary back, though his workload has been a concern in recent weeks, seeing less than 14 carries in each of the past two games. To make matters worse, D'Onta Foreman's workload appears to be trending upward, compiling 18 carries in the same timespan, and may finally be out of head coach Bill O'Brien's doghouse. This timeshare is an easy situation to avoid in daily fantasy formats with Tom Savage under center in less than an ideal matchup with the Cardinals defense.
Alfred Blue and Will Fuller inactive Sunday
D'Onta Foreman will continue to operate as Lamar Miller's primary backup and he could continue to see an increased workload. It won't make him a viable fantasy asset, but it will cut into Miller's upside. Houston is very limited in their passing game with Fuller and C.J. Fiedorowicz sidelined and Jaelen Strong off to Jacksonville. DeAndre Hopkins should keep seeing a ton of targets and Tyler Ervin will likely serve more as a receiver than runner. New England is well known for taking away their opponent's top weapon, which could make it difficult for Hopkins to be effective today.
Alfred Blue (ankle) returned to practice Wednesday
He's missed the first two games of the season and will likely be buried on the depth chart going forward.
Ryan Griffin, Stephen Anderson, Bruce Ellington, and Alfred Blue officially inactive Thursday night
Griffin, Anderson, and Ellington are all dealing with concussions while Blue is sidelined with an ankle sprain. Starting right guard Jeff Allen (ankle) is also inactive, C.J. Fiedorowicz (concussion) was placed on the IR this week, and Brian Cushing was suspended for ten games for violating the NFL's PED policy. Greg Mancz, an 18-game starter in 2016 who earned a 79.9 PFF grade, will replace Allen on the line. With Blue sidelined, D'Onta Foreman will backup Lamar Miller and he's expected to pick up a bigger workload than last week. That won't make him viable in DFS but could have a negative impact on Miller's upside. At tight end, Houston promoted rookie Evan Baylis from the practice squad with the other three out with concussions. It's a lot of injuries to be dealing with in Week 2 and it's clearly not a great situation for rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson to be making his first NFL start. Their offensive line was already poor before Allen's injury - which played a big part in the ten sacks the offense gave up and Lamar Miller's 3.8 yards per carry against Jacksonville - and Watson will have to rely on Braxton Miller, Jaelen Strong, and Baylis in the passing game, none of whom have proven to be effective at the NFL level (although it's Baylis' first crack). It would be hard for most quarterbacks to succeed with this group, let alone a rookie in his first start. It seems safe to expect DeAndre Hopkins to have an enormous market share but the Bengals will be ready and focused on taking him away. That will make it challenging for Hopkins to be efficient with his opportunities. The game total is currently sitting at 38 points and bettors have been pushed the Bengals' to 5.5-point favorites after they opened favored by three, leaving Houston with an implied total of 16.25 points.
Deshaun Watson (ankle) limited in practice Monday
Watson is expected to start Thursday night but it's possible the ankle injury could potentially prevent that from happening. Bill O'Brien wouldn't commit to him or Tom Savage (finger, full practice) Monday. Watson immediately generated a touchdown drive when he came in for Tom Savage to start the second half of their Week 1 game against Jacksonville. He struggled the rest of the way though, ending up with 102 yards, a touchdown, and a pick while completing 12-of-23 attempts. Due to the lack of pass-catchers on this team, DeAndre Hopkins finished with a week-high 16 targets. No matter who starts under center, they'll like pepper Hopkins with targets. Whether he can be efficient with his opportunities is a different story as the Bengals with undoubtedly focus on taking him away. Against Jacksonville, he only caught seven passes for 55 yards but managed to find the end zone. It's worth noting Hopkins was added to the injury report Monday with a wrist issue but he was a full participant in practice. Backup running back Alfred Blue continued to miss practice; D'Onta Foreman will serve as Lamar Miller's back up Thursday night, He's expected to pick up a bigger workload than Week 1 - he only had one carry for four yards - which will have at least a slightly negative impact on Miller's fantasy outlook.
