Andrew Luck Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Healthy And Thriving

What a turnaround it has been for Andrew Luck. The Colts are playing at a fast pace. They are throwing the ball a ton, even in the red zone. Luck is doing his part and taking advantage. He has at least three touchdown passes in SEVEN straight games, which is a remarkable streak for any quarterback, let alone one that many people thought was washed when the year began. The Luck-to-Hilton stack is very much in play again this week against a Dolphins team that isn't as good as their 5-5 record would indicate. Both these teams are in the thick of the AFC Wild Card race, and I expect Luck to keep the good times rolling in Week 12.

TY Hilton (hamstring) is a full go for Week 7

The Colts’ WR1 will play on Sunday against the Bills which should open things up more for Andrew Luck. With Ryan Grant being out, fellow wideout Chester Rogers should remain a factor and he’ll avoid Tre’Davious White with Hilton back. Hilton himself still seems like nothing more than a contrarian play at his price, given his long layoff from injury and the aforementioned tough one-on-one matchup.

It's All a Matter of Health

We have a lot of unknowns on the Indianapolis side of things, and that mainly rests with the big question: How ready is Andrew Luck? His preseason results weren’t great, but the good news is that he seems healthy for the first time in a year and a half. That’s the first hurdle. Many will forget that he is capable of posting big time fantasy numbers, and others will be skeptical to pull the trigger in his first regular season action since 2016. I wouldn’t touch him with a ten foot pole in cash games, but remember, we are looking for upside, upside, upside with our GPP rosters! Hilton is the only reliable receiver on this roster and could push to lead the league in targets this season. He’s a sensible GPP pairing with Luck if you are going all-in on the Colts. It's risky, but we want to get on the train before the herd in GPP formats.

Are you Feeling Lucky

Andrew Luck appears to be in no pain and making Andrew Luck type throws as he navigates through training camp for the Colts. “There have been four or five throws that have been like, ‘Oh yeah, that looks 100 percent like normal,’” Coach Frank Reich said before practice Sunday. This is great news for Luck and the Colts skill players. Capt. Luck can be a high level fantasy performer when healthy and makes his WR’s viable. Namely TY Hilton, who has averaged nearly 77 yards and .41 TD’s per game with Luck at QB and only 61.3 YPG and .23 TD’s without him.

Andrew Luck will be placed on IR

The Colts have decided to shut down Luck for the season as his shoulder continues to ail him. That leaves Jacoby Brissett under center for the rest of the year. In Week 9, he'll face a Texans pass defense that was destroyed by Russell Wilson in Week 8 for 452 passing yards and four scores. While corner Jonathan Joseph has been solid, earning PFF's tenth-best cover grade, the Texans are also using Kareem Jackson (93rd) and Kevin Johnson, who would have the worst grade in the league if he qualified. On the season, they're allowing the third-most fantasy points per game to quarterbacks and with the help of Wilson, they've allowed the most over the past four weeks. That sets up an interesting buy-low spot for Brissett. Although he's only thrown two touchdowns in one game, he's posted three multi-score outsings with help from his feet. He has three rushing touchdowns this season and his ability to produce on the ground adds to his floor. On DraftKings, Brissett will cost $5.2k and we're projecting 2% ownership. With Deshaun Watson reaching $8.1k this week, Brissett is an affordable way to get exposure to this game which currently has the highest total on the board (51.5) after getting pushed up from it's 48-point open.

Andrew Luck ruled out for Week 6

The Colts continue their Monday ritual of ruling Luck out, a routine that may continue into November. Jacoby Brissett will remain the starting quarterback and he'll have an excellent matchup with the Titans secondary in Week 6. Tennessee was able to limit Jay Cutler and the Dolphins this past weekend but the Dolphins have had the worst offense in the game this year. Even including that 92-yard, one-score performance from Smokin' Jay, the Titans have given up the third-most fantasy points to quarterbacks this season. Brissett is coming off the first 300-yard game of his career in which he completed 64.7% of his passes. He wasn't able to find the end zone through the air though, scoring once on the ground instead - he's now scored more rushing touchdowns (3) than passing (2) this season. Given the favorable matchup, his price has increased to $5,800 on DraftKings but he's down $200 to $6,800 on FanDuel. Stacking T.Y. Hilton with Brissett looks like an appealing option - heading into Week 4, the Titans were allowing the most passes (12.5) and third-most yards (98.2) to WR1s (per FO)

Andrew Luck (shoulder) ruled out for Week 5

This was expected as he hasn't been able to practice until this week. Jacoby Brissett will get at least one more start under center this Sunday against the 49ers. He predictably struggled in Seattle last week but he'll have a much better spot in Week 5. San Fran ranks 26th in pass DVOA and have allowed the tenth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks. That said, it may be a tough matchup for Brissett's personnel. He's shown a clear preference for T.Y. Hilton and Jack Doyle, who have been his top-two targets in all but one of his starts this season, and the 49ers have allowed just 49.9 yards per game to WR1s this year (9th, per FO) and rank 1st in TE DVOA while allowing the fewest yards to the position (19.9). SF ranks 29th in WR2 and other WR DVOA but Brissett has only completed 50% of his passes to Moncrief in his starts and 33% to Aiken for just 44 yards. The 49ers are also allowing the most passes to RBs this season (10.1) while the Colts have hardly used their backs in the passing game - Frank Gore, Robert Turbin, and Marlon Mack have combined for 2.5 receptions per game. Perhaps Hilton can break the 49ers' trend against WR1s, he'll get plenty of run against Rashard Robinson on the outside and K'Waun Williams in the slot. The former has allowed two scores and the latter has given up the fourth-most yards after catch (111). Both have allowed passer ratings of 97.5 or higher.

Colts C Ryan Kelly will return Week 5

It's good timing for the Colts as backup center Deyshawn Bond will undergo season-ending surgery on his torn quad this week. Indianapolis could use his help as they currently have the 28th-ranked offensive line in pass-blocking efficiency (PFF). As a rookie in 2016, Kelly earned the 11th-best pass-blocking grade among centers and posted the second-best pass-blocking efficiency rate among rookie centers since 2015. His presence should help quarterback Jacoby Brissett until Andrew Luck returns. Luck is expected to return to practice this week and may get back to game action as soon as Week 6.

Andrew Luck ruled out for Week 4, CB Vontae Davis expected to play

The Colts quarterback may resume practicing this week but he won't play this weekend. Davis doesn't often travel into the slot, which means if Doug Baldwin (groin) plays, he should avoid him on the majority of his routes. Cornerback Nate Hairston has manned the slot admirably this season, limiting opposing quarterbacks to a 64.2 quarterback rating. When in the slot, he's only allowed a reception every 15.2 cover snaps, per PFF; only Chris Harris has a better rate (one reception every 23.5 cover snaps). The outside corners are the ones causing so many problems for Indy's secondary and with Davis' return, quarterback Russell Wilson may have the most success targeting Tyler Lockett, who should avoid the corner's coverage the most. He should see Rashaan Melvin quite a bit, who allowed nine catches and 87 yards on 14 targets in Weeks 1 and 2 but improved against the Browns, limiting Cleveland receivers to three catches and 47 yards on ten targets while picking off two passes.

Andrew Luck (shoulder) ruled out for Week 3

The quarterback isn't ready to return yet, Jacoby Brissett will start under center for Indianapolis. Brissett didn't do well on paper in his first start with the Colts, but it was against a formidable opponent and he had a limited playbook. He posted a 27.7 QBR but earned an 84.38 PFF QB rating, which is good for 16th among QBs this season with at least 25% of their team's dropbacks. Brissett finished with 216 scoreless yards and a pick but he should have an easier time against Cleveland in Week 3. Plus, he'll have another week of practice with the first-team under his belt. It doesn't make him a very appealing fantasy target but his pass-catchers could benefit. He showed excellent chemistry with tight end Jack Doyle, who caught all eight of his targets for a team-high 79 yards in Week 2. It doesn't get much better for tight ends than a meeting with the Browns. Jesse James scored on them twice in Week 1 and 36-year-old Benjamin Watson caught all eight of his passes for 91 yards this past weekend. The Colts currently have an implied total of 19.75 points as 1-point underdogs.
