Andrew Shaw Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
This center continues to put up points on his new team
Over the last month, the Montreal Canadiens are sporting the 4th-best CF% with a 53.19 rate which should bode well as they host the Detroit Red Wings and their 24th ranked CF% of 47.91 over the last month. Additionally, the Canadiens 5th-best 61.59 CF/60 is impressive and should help bury the Red Wings tonight. The line of most interest is comprised of Max Domi, Paul Byron and Andrew Shaw. On the surface, this line doesn't seem that appealing but given that they remain in-tact on the top power play unit is intriguing. Utilizing this and rolling with a line that has full-game correlation can give you elite upside which is needed to finish at or near the top of a large-field tournament.
This centre has become beloved on his new team this season
With 22 goals and 59 points in 64 games, Max Domi has been quite the success in Montreal. Coming over in a trade in the summer, there was a lot of uncertainty with Domi but he has quieted many of his critics. His wingers will be Andrew Shaw — fresh off a hat-trick — and Jonathan Drouin, who is in his second season with the Montreal Canadiens. Much like the Nashville Predators top line, this line has elite upside and full-game correlation as the entire line remains in-tact on the to Habs top power play unit. Montreal leads the NHL with a 66.14 CF/60 over the last month and have the second best CF% with a 54.58 rate. They have been a dominant possession team and a game against the New York Rangers should not slow them down.
In his first year in Montreal, this centre is leaving his mark.
Max Domi came over to Montreal in a trade that sent Alex Galchenyuk to the Arizona Coyotes. 34 games into his Montreal Canadiens tenure, Domi leads the team in points with 33 and is tied for the team lead in goals with 14. He's playing alongside Jonathan Drouin and Andrew Shaw on the Habs top line as they visit the Colorado Avalanche. Over the last three weeks, Montreal has been dominant with their possession numbers. They lead the NHL with a 57.74 CF% and also lead with a 69.28 CF/60 which bodes well as they take on a middle-of-the-pack Avs team.
This line should dominate from puck drop
Max Domi, Jonathan Drouin, and Andrew Shaw will host the Ottawa Senators tonight, who are leading the league in CA/60 at 68.43 and goals against per game (3.81). While potentially all of Montreal’s skaters are in play with a whopping team goal total coming in over four, I will be attacking Ottawa’s weak penalty kill with this line. Adding defensemen Shea Weber give’s you three pieces of the top power-play unit.
This off-season acquisition is dominating for his new team.
In what was seen as a bit of a head-scratcher, the Montreal Canadiens traded centre Alex Galchenyuk for winger Max Domi. This was confusing because the Habs traded a centre for a winger, despite needing a centre. Now, they were using Galchenyuk primarily on the wing and Domi was going to be used at centre, so in their minds it made sense. Well, it has made a lot of sense since Max Domi has really come into his own in Montreal. He leads the team in goals with 14 and points with 31 in 31 games. He's playing alongside Jonathan Drouin and Andrew Shaw on the Habs top line as they host the Carolina Hurricanes tonight. Carolina is a great possession team, but so is Montreal. Additionally, the Hurricanes goaltending is a nightmare and although it is unclear who will be starting, Petr Mrazek is expected and although he has an acceptable 2.55 GAA, his .894 SV% is brutal.
This line has a matchup against the worst possession team in the NHL.
When you're taking on the Ottawa Senators — the worst possession team in the NHL with a 43.56 CF% — you're going to want to utilize somebody on this team. Tonight, that team is the Montreal Canadiens. Additionally, the Senators are allowing a league-worst 4.04 goals against per game which is absurdly terrible. A line of Jonathan Drouin, Max Domi and Andrew Shaw is focal point tonight as they have elite upside in this matchup, but a two-man stack of Domi and Drouin is also in play as they are both on the top power play unit.
This player is off to a blazing hot start to the season.
Max Domi couldn't have asked for a better start to his Montreal Canadiens' career. He has scored 10 goals and put up 22 points in his first 18 games as a Hab and leads the team in both categories. Now, his 26.3 percent shooting percentage is going to come down and which will obviously result in less scoring but for now, we can roll with it. He's playing on the second line with Jonathan Drouin and Andrew Shaw. This line stack is a solid one, but a mini-stack between Domi and Drouin is probably the better play as the two also play together on the top power play unit. The Habs are out West to visit the Calgary Flames. The Flames will go with the struggling Mike Smith in net — an aging goaltender with just a 3.51 GAA and .877 SV%.
Shaw Worth a Look in Tournaments
Shaw is definitely a plug-your-nose play, but his price and role on the Canadiens cannot be overlooked in a friendly matchup. The Habs will play the Sens outdoors today, but do not expect the defense of Ottawa to manifest literally or hypothetically. The Sens have been porous all year on their own blueline with allowing shot attempts to opposing offenses, while the Canadiens have been one of the better teams generating attempts. Over the past month, the quality allowed has deteriorated for Ottawa as well as they now rank among the top ten teams most generous to opposing offenses in scoring chances and high-danger shot attempts allowed at 5v5. In addition to playing on the top line at 5v5, Shaw is also seeing a healthy clip of power play time. And this is a stretch, admittedly, but outdoors games can tend to produce situations that do not favor netminders -- bad ice, wind, odd glares, etc. He is not someone that needs to be jammed into matchups, but at least in tournaments, Shaw has a nice path to paying off as a value play.
Multi-Point Potential At A Discounted Price
Playing on the Montreal Candiens top line and number one power play unit, Andrew Shaw has been one of the best bargains all season long. The Detroit Red Wings are an average team at best, with sub-par goaltending and I think we see the Canadiens impose their will tonight. Shaw and the Habs top line have multi-goal potential tonight, and they are very inexpensive to stack.
Best Bang For Your Buck On The Wing
The Montreal Canadiens find themselves in a great spot tonight, hosting a Vegas Golden Knights team that struggles defensively, and that will be playing on the tail end of a road back-to-back. The Golden Knights continue to sit at the bottom of the National Hockey League in most relevant defensive categories (ranking 26th overall in both CA/60 and SCA/60), and as a result, the goals against are starting pile up, with Vegas allowing 21 goals against in their last five contests. Both of the Canadiens top two scoring lines are producing right now, and there is plenty of value to be had. With both Artturi Lehkonen and Andrew Shaw seeing a ton of ice time at both even strength and on the Habs top power play unit, they instantly become two of the best value plays tonight on this nine-game slate. Whether you are using them as a one off in cash games or as part of an inexpensive line stack, both of these players have big upside at a discounted price.
