Target This Goalie in the Desert

Both games on this slate essentially pick'em games, so I expect goalie ownership to be relatively spread out despite the two-game slate. Antti Raanta is my favorite of the bunch. He has a sparkling 1.99 GAA this year, the best in the NHL for qualifying goalies. He has allowed just one goal in three of his last four starts, including tough matchups against the Jets and Lightning. I expect him to play well and pick up the win at home.

Antti Raanta has been ruled out

Darcy Kuemper will get the start tonight.

Fresh off upset victory, underrated netminder draws strong matchup

The Arizona Coyotes have to feel good after picking up their first win of the season against John Gibson and the Ducks. The Rauma, Finland native has been one of best goalies in the National Hockey League over the last half year or so. After all, Antti recorded a 1.80 goals against average and .945 save percentage in 19 starts after the All-Star break. Buffalo has been respectable to start the season, but they will struggle to find traction on the road as the Eichel line will not be able to dictate play, and after Buffalo's top line, things fall off quickly. While goal support will be an issue for Raanta all season long, it is hard to argue his price (DraftKings - $7,400, FanDuel - $7,700) against the team which finished with the fewest goals scored per game (2.41) last season.

This goalie is overlooked on a nightly basis

If you’re looking for a low-owned tournament play, Antti Raanta stands out. Raanta’s asking price on DraftKings is just $7,300 while on FanDuel his price is just $7,700. After the All-Star break last season, Raanta was remarkable, posting a 13-4-1 record with a 1.80 GAA and sterling .945 SV% on the strength of three shutouts. The Ducks surprised many on opening night as they, just looking for healthy bodies, danced all over the sloppy San Jose Sharks in a 5-2 win. Without their three right wingers, Corey Perry, Patrick Eaves and Ondrej Kase, the Ducks will not find scoring as easy as it was the other night. Raanta has shutout upside at little-to-no ownership.

High Risk / High Reward Goalie For GPPs

If you're looking for a high risk, high reward option in net tonight, consider taking Antti Raanta, who has shaken off a disappointing start to his first year in Arizona with an 8-2 record which includes a stellar .946 SV% over his last 10 games. At just under 6 feet tall and 187 lbs., Raanta isn't your prototypical NHL goaltender, but the Finnish netminder makes up for his lack of size with his quickness and positioning in the crease. Tonight Raanta will have the luxury of taking on a depleted Flames team that ranks 28th in scoring on home ice this season despite regularly outshooting their opponents. Not typically known for their defensive abilities, the Coyotes have quietly shored up their defense in recent games, especially in the penalty kill department. This bodes well for Raanta, who should see plenty of low quality shots to easily pay off his cheap price tag if he's able to get enough goal support to earn the victory.

Sizzling goalie could pay off big in tournaments

On the surface it does not make much sense to target goalies against Vegas, especially when on the road, but Antti Raanta has been on fire after the All-Star break. Since then, Raanta has registered 10 wins in 14 starts with a sterling 1.95 GAA and .940 SV%. Whereas many seem to succumb to the allure of Sin City, the Coyotes have already made one stop here this season so the venue should not be as much of a distraction as it is for others. Vegas clinched a playoff spot last time out and given that they are already 4-0 against the Coyotes this season, it would not be surprising to see an upset. Marc-Andre Fleury is certain to be popular in cash games and tournaments as well which raises Raanta's value a bit more. If looking for a guy who can make 35-40 saves and sneak out a win, take a chance on the red-hot Raanta.

Battle of bottom-dwellers creates opportunity for surging goalie

Antti Raanta is finally playing like the goalie he is capable of as he has won four of his last five starts, allowing 0, 3, 1, 2 and 2 goals. While all five starts did come at home, Raanta draws an excellent matchup against the Buffalo Sabres. Even though Jack Eichel is back for Buffalo, Evander Kane is gone and home ice has not meant much for the Sabres as they have just 11 wins in 37 contests. Buffalo sports the National Hockey League's worst xGF/60 (1.88) at 5 on 5 and are averaging a paltry 2.30 goals per game at KeyBank Center, a league-worst on home ice. Arizona has struggled on the road, but they have been playing much better hockey after the All-Star Break. Raanta could see 30-plus shots and pay off big in tournaments given the Sabres' impotence.

Raanta Returning on Right Night

Using a netminder coming off an injury is never ideal, but on a limited small slate with several high-powered offenses, Raanta may be worth the risk. The good news is he has been skating and practicing, so reinjury risk should be low. The better news is he gets to come back against the Vancouver Canucks, one of the worst offensive teams in the league. Vancouver enters this game with the third worst expected goal rate at 5v5. Most of their poor numbers were accumulated with highly talented Brock Boeser, who is no longer on the active roster. On home ice against a feeble offense, Raanta should avoid a Beautiful Disaster and pay dividends tonight

Surging goalie has two shutouts in his last four starts

Outside of a five-goal blow up to the Calgary Flames, Antti Raanta has been rock solid, winning his last five starts. Two of those starts were impressive shutouts against the Edmonton Oilers and Anaheim Ducks. Raanta has the pleasure of taking on an atrocious Ottawa team that was able to upset the Golden Knights in Vegas last night for their most impressive win of the season. It is hard seeing the Senators getting up for this contest against another bottom-dweller, so Raanta could be in for another huge night. He should easily see 30-plus saves and have a good chance of picking up the victory. Raanta is especially cheap on FanDuel where he checks in at just $7,300. On the late slate, he is likely your cash game goalie given the discount. Fire him up in tournaments either way.

Ultimate Boom/Bust Goalie

If you're looking for a high risk, high reward option in net tonight, consider taking Antti Raanta, who has shaken off a disappointing start to his first year in Arizona with a .925 SV% at home this season. At just under 6 feet tall and 187 lbs., Raanta isn't your prototypical NHL goaltender, but the Finnish netminder makes up for his lack of size with his quickness and positioning in the crease. Tonight Raanta will have the luxury of taking on a struggling Blackhawks team that has lost five straight games to begin the month; averaging just 1.8 goals per game despite regularly outshooting their opponents. Not typically known for their defensive abilities, the Coyotes have quietly shored up their defense since on home ice in recent games, especially in the penalty kill department. This bodes well for Raanta, who should see plenty of low quality shots to easily pay off his cheap price tag if he's able to get enough goal support to earn the victory.
