Kings' captain looks to turn around season

After setting a career-high last season with 92 points (35G, 57A), Kopitar has been a major disappointment this season, collecting just nine points in 20 games. However, he does have a goal in two of his last three games, and a matchup against the skidding Canucks is one to exploit. Vancouver has dropped eight consecutive contests, and the Kings are the only rested team in action this evening. Kopitar, who is $5,000 on DraftKings and $6,600 on FanDuel is a viable option in all formats, and his slow start to the season will keep ownership in check from where it would usually be for this favorable opponent.

Overlooked captain center could be a difference maker

Anze Kopitar has just five points (3G, 2A) in 11 games as the Los Angeles Kings have been a disaster. Kopitar is well off pace from his 2017-18 career year which saw him post 92 points (35G, 57A) as he played all 82 games. Kopitar's price has plummeted to $5,100 on DraftKings, and while the matchup with Sergei Bobrovsky is not ideal, Kopitar is far too cheap for someone who sees 20-plus minutes of ice time per game, and especially someone with his track record. His linemates are not the greatest and priced accordingly, yet Kopitar emerges as an intriguing solo option in tournaments.

This players' return to the NHL has started a bit slow.

Ilya Kovalchuk has just one goal and three points in five games since returning to the NHL. However, he's playing on the top line with Anze Kopitar as well as the top power play unit (though he could be on PP2 tonight). Furthermore, he's fired 17 shots on goal and with Sparks struggles at the NHL level there is plenty of upside tonight. With the Kings lines in a bit of a blender and concerns that Kovalchuk could be on the second power play unit, his ownership might be a bit lower than usual.

Fresh off a four goal night, this centre is in another position for a big game

Hopefully Anze Kopitar doesn’t have inflated ownership tonight because he is coming off of a four-goal night. It is unlikely, to be honest, because the Kings rarely see very high ownership on a full-slate and especially not on a slate with as many studs as tonight. However, this is a great matchup for him and the Kings as they visit Edmonton to take on the Oilers. Edmonton has been terrible at shot suppression or preventing scoring chances. Over their last 10 games they have allowed a 61.9 CA/60 which is sixth worst in the NHL as well as a 33.55 SCA/60 which is the second worst in the league. Kopitar will be lining up with Dustin Brown and Alex Iafallo, The full line stack is in play, but if you want to use a mini-stack then going with Kopitar and Brown is the way to go as they stick together on the top power play unit.

Quietly Consistent

Kopitar was held off the scoresheet on Thursday against the Blue Jackets, but he's quitely having a very nice bounce-back season after under-preforming last year. He'll take the ice tonight owning 70 points (27 goals and 43 assists) in 64 games and has the Kings right back in the thick of the playoff hunt. With Jeff Carter back as the center of Los Angeles' second forward line, Kopitar should start seeing some more favorable matchups as opposing coaches will no longer be able to single him out as the most dangerous offensive weapons (ie: avoiding the Jonathan Toews treatment tonight). Kopitar owns eight goals and 11 assists in 16 games since the All-Star break and has scored a goal and added an assist in games against Chicago this season. With the Blackhawks always interested in pushing the pace of play, Kopitar should find plenty of opportunities for damage.

The Los Angeles Kings are gearing up to make the playoffs

The Los Angeles Kings have made some trades over the last week or so acquiring Dion Phaneuf and Tobias Rieder as they try and make a push to get into the playoffs. Adding Rieder and getting Jeff Carter back from injury really changes their top 6 forwards and turns them into a nice looking bunch. Anze Kopitar, Dustin Brown and Alex Iafallo are on the Kings top line, which is our focus tonight. The Kings host the Edmonton Oilers tonight in what is a great matchup for them. Kopitar is on pace for his best offensive season where he has picked up 64 points in 61 games, including 25 goals. This puts him on an 86 point and 34 goal pace which would be a career high in points and tie a career high in goals. This is a great spot for this trio to have a big game.

Even without Darryl Sutter the Los Angeles Kings struggle to score

Gone are the days of Darryl Sutter and his defensive system. However, the Los Angeles Kings are still struggling to score goals. Tonight could change that as they are taking on the Edmonton Oilers, a team that struggles to keep the puck out of the net. The top line is really the only line to be interested in tonight. Anze Kopitar is playing between Tyler Toffoli and Alex Iafallo, and this makes for a solid line stack. Kopitar is the one to be most interested in as since January 1st, he has put up 15 points in his last 13 games. A mini stack with Toffoli is in play as the two play on the same power play unit together. Although Toffoli has struggled lately, this is a great matchup to turn things around.

This centre is on pace for his best offensive season of his career

Anze Kopitar is thriving under new head coach John Stevens. As the team has moved away from the extreme defensive style under Darryl Sutter, a lot of the Los Angeles Kings players are having rejuvenated offensive seasons. Kopitar has been a star offensively this season and on pace for his best point total of his career, 83 points. The Kings are home to the New York Rangers who will either have Henrik Lundqvist between the pipes on back to back days or they'll roll backup Ondrej Pavelec in net. Either way, it is a good spot for the Kings offense and Kopitar who will be centering Dustin Brown and Adrian Kempe which makes for a great line stack on this short slate.

Despite rotating left wingers on this line, this centre continues to dominate

Anze Kopitar has played with Dustin Brown for most of the season, however his left winger seems to have been a carousel of options. It is expected that Tanner Pearson will be in this spot tonight giving this stack big offensive upside tonight. Although the Los Angeles Kings are on the road, they are taking on a Vancouver Canucks team that has struggled in net. Jacob Markstrom has proven he's not a starting goaltender as his 2.74 goals against average and .907 save percentage indicate this season. The Canucks have actually been pretty decent at reducing shots as they allow 31.71 shots against per game, which is middle of the pack.

This centre is having a great offensive season with a new coach

With Darryl Sutter no longer coaching the Los Angeles Kings, Anze Kopitar and many other Kings are thriving offensively. Kopitar is on pace for his best offensive season in his career, and on pace to crush his goal, assist and point career-highs. He has 16 goals and 38 points in 32 games and although his shooting percentage is a little high compared to his career highs, it's obvious that he is thriving outside of the Sutter defensive system. He is currently playing with Dustin Brown and Alex Iafallo, which makes for a great line stack tonight despite being on the road. The Rangers are allowing 62.08 CA/60, which is the fourth worst in the NHL and with some of the injuries to the Rangers, the Kings should thrive tonight.
