Arian Foster retires from football
Foster surprised everyone by retiring from football today, telling "Uninterrupted" that he's "walking away in peace." He's been battling a hamstring injury since Week 2. Despite being active the past two weeks, he only averaged 4.5 touches since getting back in the lineup. A large part of his diminished workload is due to the success of Jay Ajayi, who has put together back-to-back weeks with more than 200 rushing yards. Ajayi will now be the clear number one back for the Dolphins and act as their workhorse.
Jay Ajayi listed as starter for Miami, Arian Foster will back him up
Ajayi earned the starting role after his huge game against the Steelers last week. He rushed for over 200 yards and two touchdowns last week. On paper, the Bills and Steelers have similar rushing defense statistics, but game flow likely won't go the way it did against Pittsburgh. Buffalo is favored by 2.5 points. Foster isn't a viable fantasy play as he will likely see less than ten touches.
Jay Ajayi will be Miami's lead back going forward
Ajayi broke out for 204 rushing yards and two touchdowns against the Steelers last week, which has earned him the starting role for the Dolphins. Arian Foster had beaten Ajayi for the job in training camp, but has been hobbled up by a hamstring injury since Week 2. As of now it looks like Ajayi will retain the feature role even when Foster is 100%. However, Foster will still be worked in and get some touches against Buffalo this weekend. The Bills rank 12th in rush DVOA, per Football Outsiders, whereas Pittsburgh ranks 17th. Both teams have allowed the same number of rushing touchdowns (6) and they give up a similar amount of rushing yards per game (Buffalo: 103.2; Pittsburgh: 101.2). Game flow really helped Ajayi last week, but it might not be so conducive to the run game in Week 7. Buffalo is favored by three, and Miami will likely play from behind in the second half. He should manage a decent volume either way, but he hasn't been used too much in the passing game this season. While it's unlikely that he'll see 25 carries again, if the Dolphins stay hot, it's possible. The good news is Ajayi's price is still low across the industry, so he can be worked into tournament lineups pretty easily.
Arian Foster questionable for Sunday
Coach Adam Gase said Foster isn't back to 100%, but he's expected to play against the Bills this weekend. Foster isn't a viable fantasy play this week. Jay Ajayi will likely out-touch Foster again (it was 26 to 5 last game), although the gap may narrow some. Ajayi is definitely worth consideration in GPP's based on his performance last week, but the Bills have been solid defensively and it's doubtful that he'll have another monster game.
Arian Foster still not 100%
Foster was active for the first time since injuring his hamstring in Week 2. Although most expected Foster to start and be the lead back, Jay Ajayi out-touched him 26 to 5. Ajayi made the most of his opportunities and went off for 207 total yards and two touchdowns. Head coach Adam Gase told reporters today that Foster hasn't fully recovered yet. Based on this news and Ajayi's performance, it seems like Ajayi will get another start on Sunday against the Bills. Buffalo held Carlos Hyde to 52 yards this past weekend, but as a team the 49ers ran for 133 yards. Buffalo has allowed six touchdowns on the ground, tied for 7th-most in the league.
Arian Foster will play Sunday
He hasn't played since injuring his groin in Week 2. Foster isn't a strong fantasy option this week, although he will catch some passes. This eliminates Jay Ajayi from consideration. Miami's backfield and offensive line have failed to produce this season, and the offense is more likely to attack Pittsburgh through the air.
Arian Foster a game-time decision for Sunday
The Dolphins RB has been eyeing a return this week and is a game-time decision according to Head Coach Adam Gase. It's not a great match up, especially considering uncertainty with his role, Jay Ajayi's presence, and a relatively tough match up against a Steelers team that is top 10 in RB Rush DVOA so he's probably best avoided until we can see him on the field in a more defined role. We'll update his status Sunday morning as soon as we learn more.
Arian Foster limited again on Thursday
He's looking like a good bet to suit up in Week 6, but with the Dolphins offense still in shambles, he's not going to be a viable target against a Steelers defense that has been much more vulnerable through the air. Opponents are running against the Steelers just 29.8% of the time, the lowest rate in the league, and the Dolphins offense has struggled mightily over the last few games. They've run 41 and 43 plays in the last two games, the lowest totals for any team in any game so far this year. Unless Ryan Tannehill and the offensive line figure things out, it'll be really tough to feel comfortable targeting the Miami running game.
Arian Foster expected to play this week against Steelers
The Dolphins RB was limited in practice last week but is expected to ramp up his participation this week in anticipation of playing this Sunday against Pittsburgh. He's not a viable DFS option coming off an injury and facing a Steelers defense that is more vulnerable to the pass than they are the run. It also hurts any value (if he had any) that Jay Ajayi has. It's a situation to avoid for at least this week but if Foster can return to the form he showed before getting hurt he could have some viability down the road.
Arian Foster out against Titans
This is no surprise as Foster is still recovering from a groin injury. Coach Adam Gase has stated he was going to move away from the four-man committee this weekend. Jay Ajayi should be the lead running back in this game. Despite a boost in volume it will be hard to trust Ajayi or the Miami running game. As a team they average 77.8 rushing yards per game, good for 28th in the NFL.
