Benny Cunningham Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Benny Cunningham (hamstring) inactive Sunday

Cunningham is inactive and won't play in today's game against the Carolina Panthers after previously being listed on the Chicago Bears' injury report with a hamstring injury. Jordan Howard will obviously continue to see work as the lead back in Chicago, but the absence of Cunningham could open up some extra snaps in passing situations for Tarik Cohen, who had seen his workload decline over the last few weeks with Cunningham active. The Bears will continue to bring Mitchell Trubisky along slowly as a starting quarterback in the NFL, meaning that Howard should be expected to continue seeing a massive market share of touches in their run-first offense going forward and makes for a viable tournament option at running back across the industry.

Jordan Howard removed from injury report

Kendall Wright and Benny Cunningham were also removed from the report Friday. Howard is rehabbing a shoulder injury, which could still be a problem for the running back on Sunday. Although he's going to start, it may be harder for him to powerfully run the ball, especially near the goal line, and it could hurt his ability to block in pass protection. As long as Howard is banged up, Tarik Cohen will benefit. The rookie has already piled up 16 receptions in his first two games and game flow could work in his favor again this week; the Bears are currently 7-point dogs.

Markus Wheaton (finger) and Prince Amukamara (ankle) limited in practice Wednesday, Benny Cunningham (ankle) didn't participate

Chicago is short on receivers; if Wheaton is able to suit up this week, he could pick up some work right away. He'll likely be their fourth receiver though, so it won't be enough to make him an appealing fantasy target. Cunningham's absence will allow breakout running back Tarik Cohen to continue to pick up more work in the passing game. A whopping 65% of Mike Glennon's passes went to TEs and RBs in Week 1. He’ll likely continue to favor short passes and checkdowns to those positions, which boosts Cohen’s full PPR appeal. The Bucs were poor against pass-catching backs in 2016, ranking 26th in DVOA, per FO. On the defensive side of the ball, starting cornerback Amukamara was sidelined in Week 1 and his replacement, Kyle Fuller, did not do well, scoring a 43.1 game-grade from PFF. Still, the secondary managed to keep Julio Jones in check, continuing their success defending WR1s from last season. Next up, they'll get another tough challenge against Mike Evans.

Benny Cunningham placed on IR

Cunningham (neck) is done for the season. His absence will provide extra snaps and targets for Todd Gurley down the stretch. The second-year running back won't be a great option tonight in a tough matchup with the Seahawks and their 3rd-ranked rush defense though. Another big issue is the expected game script, which is as bad as it can get; Los Angeles are 15.5-point underdogs and have an implied team total of 11.75 points.

Benny Cunningham ruled out for Thursday

His absence should lead to some extra snaps and targets for Todd Gurley. It's still not a great spot to target him though as Seattle ranks 3rd against the rush and Gurley has been ineffective all season, averaging just 3.3 yards per carry. On top of that, Los Angeles' implied total continues to tumble; they're currently expected to score just 11.25 points.

Benny Cunningham inactive against Bills

Cunningham was limited in practice this week and questionable for the game. If anything, this gives a further uptick to Gurley's already heavy workload. Cunningham comes in for some passing down work, which will now be left to Gurley. There has been talk all week about Gurley getting more involved in the passing game after he caught five balls last week. After getting stuffed the first four weeks on the ground, he could be in for a big game if the Rams successfully get him into space through the air.
