Blake Swihart Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

David Peralta (trap) scratched Saturday; Blake Swihart replaces

Peralta has been scratched from the Arizona Diamondbacks original confirmed lineup and will not start in Saturday’s matchup against the San Francisco Giants due to a sore trap. He’ll be replaced in the lineup by Blake Swihart, who will now play left field and slot into the seventh spot in the order, which bumps Christian Walker, Wilmer Flores, an Nick Ahmed up to fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively. However, the remainder of the Diamondbacks lineup will stay intact offensively as they face off against left-hander Madison Bumgarner at home this evening.

Red Sox Hitters Looking to Turn it Around

The Red Sox have underwhelmed thus far compared to their dominant 2018, they currently own a middling 14th best xwOBA with a .316 mark so far in 2019 after ranking 1st with a .343 xwOBA in 2018. Tonight they face Zack Godley, who is coming off a rough 2018 that saw him post a 4.74 ERA / 4.18 SIERA. Godley does a good job limiting power (0.81 HR/ in 2018) but allows plenty of baserunners (1.45 WHIP in ’18) which doesn’t matchup well vs. a Red Sox team that ranked 1st with a .344 OBP vs. RHP in 2018. J.D. Martinez (.428 xwOBA vs. RHP in 2018), Mookie Betts (.424), Mitch Moreland (.382) Andrew Benintendi (.376) and Xander Bogaerts (.366) are all upside plays in the middle of the Sox order. Moreland in particular is a nice value batting 3rd and very affordable across the industry. Rafael Devers (.324) and Blake Swihart (.301) are also in play batting 6th and 7th, respectively.

Possible punt Catcher and OF value bat in Arizona

The game in Arizona does not present imposing run totals, while the humidor has negative impacted the run environment, but none the less, a couple of not entirely obvious batters stand out against two pitchers who struggled their first time out. David Peralta has an impressive 155 wRC+, .262 ISO and 52.1 Hard% against RHP over the last year, while LHBs had a .351 xwOBA against Rick Porcello last season (39.6 Hard%). While the normal candidates stand out for Boston as well, players could consider “punting” their Catcher position with Blake Swihart as well. Swihart has been an above average hitter (116 wRC+, .154 ISO) vs RHP over the last calendar year and has started this season with hard contact on three of his six batted balls so far.

Top bat in top lineup sits against pitcher with large platoon splits, offering cheaper exposure to top half

The Red Sox have the second highest run line tonight at 5.43 against Jake Arrieta with only one other team well above five. One of their key pieces is off the board (Mookie Betts) against a pitcher with significant platoon splits (LHBs .347 wOBA, 44.4 GB% since last season, RHBs .270 wOBA, 51.9 GB%). The optimistic way of looking at this is cheaper exposure to the top of this lineup in Blake Swihart (92 wRC+, .104 ISO vs RHP last calendar year) in the second spot with Andrew Benintendi (145 wRC+, .213 ISO) and Mitch Moreland (120 wRC+, .246 ISO) sandwiching him. J.D. Martinez (181 wRC+, .382 ISO) is probably the only RH bat you think about here. His 165 wRC+ and 47.5 Hard% over the last week both lead the lineup by a wide margin. At whatever park he has called home since the beginning of last season, he has 205 wRC+ and .434 ISO. His 12.6% Barrels/PA is easily best in the majors this year.

Bottom Half

With the Yankees not being included on the main slate, the Red Sox only competition for highest run total of the night is Cleveland. Boston hitters will be high owned considering the plus matchup against Rangers lefty Mike Minor, so one way to differentiate your stack would be to focus on the bottom half of the Red Sox order. Focusing on the bottom half of the order allows you to squeeze in one stud + pitch Gerrit Cole at SP1. It's not necessarily my preferred approach, but one that will allow you to access a more unique lineup.
