Two through four in Rays order all have a .260+ ISO vs RHP facing James Shields tonight
James Shields is actually striking out batters at a league average rate over the last month and has allowed just one HR over his last two starts. He’s in one of the highest strikeout spots in baseball (Rays 24.4 K% vs RHP) at a low price, though the Rays have shown power on the road (15.0 HR/FB) and it would be a gusty move to trust Shields at this point. The Rays have a very bipolar lineup though. The top four all have a wRC+ above 110 with an ISO above .180 vs RHP. In fact, Forsythe (.183) is the only one of the four with an ISO below .260 against them this year. However, the bottom five all have a wRC+ below 55 and ISO below .130 against righties this season. That's quite a few outs. Corey Dickerson (112 wRC+, .267 ISO vs RHP this season) becomes extremely interesting in the two spot with at a reasonable cost ($4.2K on DK, $3.3K on FD), while Brad Miller (121 wRC+, .268 ISO vs RHP this season) may be the top SS bat available.
Ivan Nova has allowed a HR in all except one start, but has a 25.8 K% over the last month
Ivan Nova has allowed exactly one ER in three of his last four starts, though he still has allowed a HR in all but one start. He also has a 25.8 K% over the last month, backed up by his 11.7 SwStr% and he has a strong 54.9 GB%. While there’s little difference in his home and road HR rates, which is a bit of a surprise, this is still an excellent spot against a high strikeout offense (24.3 K% vs RHP). Most daily fantasy players probably know Nova as a HR machine, which should help out his ownership numbers as well. While a good chunk of the responsibility for a .372 wOBA against him by LHBs since last season probably falls to Yankee Stadium, it has little to do with the 34.6 Hard%. We're still going to want to look at a few decent LHBs with some power at low prices here. That includes Brad Miller (115 wRC+. 201 ISO vs RHP since 2015), who may be a top SS value on either site tonight for around $3.5K. Corey Dickerson (116 wRC+. .266 ISO vs RHP since 2015) at $3.3K or less, and even Kevin Kiermaier (102 wRC+, .177 ISO vs RHP since 2015) for $3K or less. Evan Longoria (136 wRC+, .260 ISO vs RHP) is a bit more expensive and has three HRs in 39 career PAs against Nova, but also nine strikeouts.
Rays have a 25.9 K% vs RHP and Gee (9.4 SwStr% in May) costs just $4.8K on DraftKings
Dillon Gee allowed three HRs in Minnesota in his last start and would not be considered a good pitcher, but has respectably struck out 16 of 66 batters through four starts and does have a 9.4 SwStr% in May. The Rays have a 25.9 K% vs RHP and Gee costs just $4.8K on DraftKings if you're in need of a punt in your 2nd pitcher slot. LHBs have pounded him for a .418 wOBA and 35.8 Hard% though, so we're going to want to look at the three Tampa Bay is playing tonight. Corey Dickerson (113 wRC+, .294 ISO vs RHP this season) still bats 7th, but costs less than $4K and might still be their best LHB against RHP. Brad Miller (102 wRC+, .183 ISO vs RHP this season) is slightly more expensive, but gets the two hole and plays a more difficult position to roster in daily fantasy. Logan Morrison (71 wRC+, .079 ISO vs RHP this year) costs about the same and would be the hottest bat in the lineup (197 wRC+ over the last seven days).
