Bradley Zimmer Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Bradley Zimmer (bruised chest) scratched Saturday; Brandon Guyer replaces
Zimmer has been scratched from the Cleveland Indians original confirmed lineup and will not play in Saturday's matchup against the Kansas City Royals due to a bruised chest. He'll be replaced in the lineup by Brandon Guyer, who will play right field and slot directly into Zimmer's vacated ninth spot in the order, which does move Greg Allen over to center field, but ultimately, the remainder of the Indians lineup stays intact as they face off against right-hander Jakob Junis at home this afternoon.
Bradley Zimmer scratched Sunday; Rajai Davis replaces him in the lineup
Zimmer has been scratched with a mild right ankle sprain, allowing Rajai Davis to enter the lineup in the in the ninth spot. Davis is a potential GPP dart as part of an Indians stack thanks to his ability to swipe bags, but he's not all that intriguing otherwise.
Stack the Indians!
The Indians have let a lot of us down early this season with their cold bats.. I'm betting that doesn't happen today. The tribe have the highest projected total on the slate against a pitcher in Chris Tillman who seems to be getting worse every start. Tillman is worse against righties but he is flat out bad against everyone, making every player in the Cleveland lineup a strong play. I really feel like this will be a 10 plus run outburst against Tillman and the Orioles pen so I am stacking the Indians every way I can think of and I suggest you do the same.
Brandon Guyer and Greg Allen scratched Thursday; Lonnie Chisenhall and Bradley Zimmer will replace in lineup
Guyer and Allen have both officially been scratched from the Cleveland Indians lineup for tonight's game against the Chicago White Sox as a way to counteract Mike Pelfrey replacing Carlos Rodon (shoulder) as the opposing starting pitcher this evening. They'll be replaced in the lineup by Lonnie Chisenhall and Bradley Zimmer, who will bat sixth and eighth respectively. Since Chisenhall and Zimmer are slotting directly into Guyer and Allen's spots in the batting order, the remainder of the Indians previously confirmed lineup does remain unchanged.
Bartolo Colon has surrendered a 44.3% HH% in five starts with Minnesota
Bartolo Colon currently finds himself in the midst of a stretch since signing with the Minnesota Twins where he hasn't been completely horrible. In fact, he's managed to "limit" his opponents to four earned runs or less in four of those last five starts, and somehow was able to cap it off with seven shutout innings against the Milwaukee Brewers his last time out. He'll take the mound tonight for the sixth time as a member of the Twins rotation against a competent Cleveland Indians lineup that ranks 6th in wRC+ (103) and 7th in wOBA (.328) against right-handed pitching, putting them in the perfect position to take advantage of a fastball pitcher like Colon that struggles striking hitters out (13.5% K%) from both sides of the plate. Although, on the year, Colon has been substantially worse against left-handed batters, evidenced by a 43.2% fly ball rate and 41.9% hard hit rate compared to a more respectable 50.3% groundball rate and 31.3% hard hit rate versus righties. Fortunately, this Indians squad has a decent ability to go left-handed, as Edwin Encarnacion, Austin Jackson, and Yan Gomes are the only righties that cracked Cleveland's lineup this evening. Meaning, that Jay Bruce (133 wRC+, .372 wOBA, .266 ISO vs RHP), Jose Ramirez (146 wRC+, .391 wOBA, .247 ISO vs RHP), and Carlos Santana (116 wRC+, .348 wOBA, .196 ISO vs RHP) are the prime options from this Indians lineup given their plate skills against southpaws, while Francisco Lindor (.194 ISO vs RHP) and Bradley Zimmer (.184 ISO vs RHP) are clearly a tier below the aforementioned players. With that said, Colon isn't immune to right-handed batters by any means, but he certainly does have a better ability to control batted ball outcomes on a more consistent basis, which makes guys like Encarnacion (128 wRC+, .365 wOBA, .259 ISO vs RHP) more effective as a tournament option than core pieces to a cash game lineup.
Rick Porcello is allowing 44.8% Hard% and 46.1% FB% to LHB this season
As a result, Porcello has given up a .342 wOBA and .222 ISO, plus he's posted an overall contact rate of 81.6%. This sets up a great spot for Cleveland's lefty bats. They're currently expected to start five of their first six batters from the left side of the plate: Bradley Zimmer (.213 ISO, .357 wOBA, 32.1% FB%, 38.4% Hard% against RHP this year), Francisco Lindor (.198 ISO, .313 wOBA, 42.9% FB%, 30.5% Hard%), Michael Brantley (.172 ISO, .362 wOBA, 29.9% FB%, 40.7% Hard%), Jose Ramirez (.256 ISO, .398 wOBA, 41.2% FB%, 34.1% Hard%), and Carlos Santana (.215 ISO, .356 wOBA, 42.6% FB%, 36.3% Hard%). Although his numbers are better against RHB, they're still appealing; he's posted a .351 wOBA, .205 ISO, 38.8% Hard%, 35.1%, so guys like Edwin Encarnacion (.237 ISO, .352 wOBA, 41.4% FB%, 38.2% Hard%) and Austin Jackson (.109 ISO, .341 wOBA, 40.0% FB%, 41.2% Hard%) are in play. Cleveland's projected run total is just 4.65 as Porcello has maintained a 4.13 SIERA this season, despite the poor peripheral stats. Still, the Indians' total may be lower than it should with the way they match up with the Red Sox pitcher and it should keep their ownership down, which presents a nice opportunity to stack them in GPPs.
Finding the best matchups in the Cleveland lineup against Tim Adleman using PlateIQ
Tim Adleman has an impressive 11 SwStr% this season with a 21.8 K%, but he's also generated ground balls just 35% of the time, which has led to at least one HR allowed in 10 straight starts. Besides being a very positive run environment in Cleveland, the home team has a 117 sOPS+ against fly ball pitchers, third best in the majors. Top bats in the lineup tonight against fly ball pitchers include Jose Ramirez (171 sOPS+), Edwin Encarnacion (165) and Bradley Zimmer (141). We can filter out this matchup further using PitchIQ. According to Brooks Baseball, Adleman has a four pitch mix that includes a fourseam, sinker, change and curve. Although there are a few more changes to LHBs and a few more curves to RHBs, he throws every pitch to batters from either side at least 10% of the time. He likes to live outside to batters from either side, but stays away from anything that's low if it's not outside to LHBs. While Encarnacion is the only RHB we're interested in, we can see that he likes pitches on the outer half as well. He has not hit changeups that well, but that's only 15% of Adleman's mix against RHBs. We'd expect more sinkers and curves, where Encarnacion is fine. From the left-hand side, Zimmer and Francisco Lindor have handled the outter half of the plate best, though Jose Ramirez has hammered anything mistakenly left around the outer middle. Both he and Zimmer have had great success against changeups and curves, while Lindor has had some issue with curveballs, which Adleman throws only 10% of the time to LHBs. It doesn't take a genius to tell players to stack an offense with a 5.5 implied run line against a HR prone pitcher, but other tools such as PlateIQ along with Baseball-Reference and Brooks Baseball tell us which players may match up best. The ideal stack may be Encarnacion with Ramirez in the middle, but also Zimmer (the top three bats against fly ball pitchers) with Lindor up top.
Using PlateIQ to break down Cleveland hitters against changeups (LHBs .273 ISO vs Lamet's)
Dinelson Lamet has a 30% strikeout rate rate, but great problems with batters who have hit the ball (88.8 mph aEV, 15.1% Barrels/BBE). LHBs have hit him particularly well (.422 wOBA, 39.6 Hard%. The fastball (47% usage vs LHBs, .556 ISO) and changeup (18% usage vs LHBs, .273 ISO) seem to be the culprits. The slider (27% usage, .100 ISO) has actually been a quality pitch against opposite handed batters. While we immediately want to gravitate towards Cleveland LHBs who hit RHBs well (basically all of them), players can then use PlateIQ in an attempt to filter further. Lamet has an interesting heat map against LHBs because while he throws most of his pitches either down or away against them, the low AND away box is his least populated part of the strike zone (3.6%). It makes it more difficult to square up great matchups for Cleveland with this part of the tool alone, but counting the last two seasons Abraham Almonte has the fewest hot zones among Lamet's most populated regions, not really a surprise. While most Cleveland LHBs in the confirmed lineup have been around average against fastballs, Michael Brantley looks to have the most difficulty with changeups, though he also has one of the smaller sample sizes considering his recent injury history. Jose Ramirez appears to have the most success against the pitch, although Lindor, Almonte, and Zimmer have hit the change well too. The key takeaway may be that Jose Ramirez (165 wRC+, .293 ISO vs RHP this year) needs to be a part of any stack against Lamet, while Bradley Zimmer (121 wRC+, .188 ISO vs RHP) may be the sneaky salary saver closer to the bottom of the lineup.
Despite Dinelson Lamet having the third-lowest SIERA on the night slate (3.22), the Indians are the biggest favorites on the board (-185)
Lamet enters tonight's matchup with Cleveland with an excellent 32.1% K% and 13.9% SwStr%, second only to Chris Sale in both categories on Thursday's main slate. However, his strikeout rate drops to 25.7% against LHB and Cleveland is projected to start six batters that will hit from the left side. Overall, their projected lineup has a combined .199 ISO and .345 wOBA against RHP this year. It's setting up to be a tough matchup as only one of these lefty bats has a strikeout rate above 19.0% - and three of them are at 14.0% or under - which hinders Lamet's primary strength. When batters make contact against him, it's the type we want to target; he has a 39.6% Hard% and 50.9% FB% after facing 79 LHB this year. Plus, he's allowed a .422 wOBA and .369 ISO in split. All of this makes guys like Kipnis (47.6% FB%, 30.4% Hard%, .161 ISO, .289 wOBA vs. RHP this year), Lindor (44.4% FB%, 29.9% Hard%, .212 ISO, .422 wOBA), Ramirez (41.7% FB%, 35.2% Hard%, .293 ISO, .422 wOBA), Chisenhall (49.1% FB%, 33.0% Hard%, .281 ISO, .376 wOBA), Brantley (26.7% FB%, 42.0% Hard%, .156 ISO, .364 wOBA), and Zimmer (25.8% FB%, 34.2% Hard%, .188 ISO, .357 wOBA ) appealing tonight, and the difference between Lamet's SIERA and the Indians' implied total (5.25) makes more sense. Be sure to check out official lineups when they're released.
Cheap RHBs are available in the San Francisco lineup against hard contact prone lefty
Players looking to save salary have a couple of options tonight. One is for those who are willing to punt SS, which looks fairly weak tonight. Tzu-Wei Lin (171 wRC+, 43.8 Hard% last seven days) costs the minimum on FD ($3K on DK) and faces a pitcher who has been beaten soundly by LHBs (.361 wOBA since last season) in a great park in Texas. Bradley Zimmer ($2.6K FD, $3.4K DK) has a 133 wRC+, .198 ISO vs RHP and leads off against Luis Perdomo tonight (LHBs .371 wOBA career). Jae-gyun Hwang (150 wRC+, 30 Hard%) moves up in the lineup to face a LHP who has allowed a lot of hard contact (38.4% to RHBs since last year) in Detroit for $2.6K or less on either site. Austin Slater has a lesser lineup spot, but comes in at the same cost in that game. Gorkys Hernandez leads off for just a bit more. David Freese is $3K or less on either site against Ben Lively.
