Favorable spot for young Senator to erupt

The Edmonton Oilers were pasted by the Maple Leafs last night, and while the Senators have sent away their team and look miserable, they still have some offensive talent. Brady Tkachuk stands out the most as the 19 year old has 14 goals this season. With Mark Stone and Matt Duchene elsewhere, Tkachuk has seen a slight boost in ice time. Edmonton really struggles while short-handed which further adds to Brady's value as he sees the top power play minutes. Since the All-Star break, Brady is averaging over three shots on goal per game. With Edmonton starting the Mikko Koskinen in net again, after being pulled last night, Tkachuk has a good chance of finding the back of the net.

This could be this upcoming UFA's last game for his current team

The Senators take on the New Jersey Devils who will have Cory Schneider in net. His lack of wins — zero to be exact — in the 2018 calendar year was eye-opening and while he’s finally broken that streak, his numbers this season are still terrible. A 3.69 goals against average and .883 save percentage is not at all threatening and Mark Stone could put up a big game as a result. He will be playing with Colin White and Brady Tkachuk as the Senators choose to rest Matt Duchene leading up to the trade deadline. While this could be Stone's last game as a Senator (will he be rested over the weekend?), I expect a big performance. This line makes up 3/5 of the top power play unit in Ottawa as they are joined by Thomas Chabot and Bobby Ryan. Remaining together throughout the game gives them elite upside in this matchup.

Rookie forward is averaging four shots on goal per game after All-Star break

While most will gravitate toward the other side of this game, particularly Patrick Kane (and for good reason), do not sleep on the Ottawa Senators. A game stack makes a lot of sense here as both teams are leaky defensively. Enter Brady Tkachuk who averages around 15 minutes of ice time per game. Brady has not had a multi-point game since the end of December, but he continues to fire the puck on net, collecting 15 shots over his last three games. In a game that should feature plenty of goals, Brady Tkachuk is a nice source of salary relief.

Rookie has gone cold after hot November

After posting 10 points (6G, 4A) in 11 November games, Brady Tkachuk has cooled considerably, collecting just a goal and four assists over his last 20 games. As a result, we have a more attackable price tag on the rookie winger. The Senators' line of Chris Tierney, Mark Stone and Brady Tkachuk is an affordable stack with upside tonight as they should spend the better part of the game against Colorado's lackluster depth lines. Furthermore, Brady Tkachuk is seeing top power play minutes. Last time out, he took seven shots on goal. He is a bit too volatile for cash games but makes for a nice tournament play.

This is the worst defensive team in the NHL but they still score in bunches.

The Ottawa Senators are the worst defensive team in the NHL, but they are also scoring a bunch as well. They are seventh in the league averaging 3.31 goals per game, despite their poor possession numbers. While this is unlikely to be sustained throughout the season, they do have a good matchup tonight. Although they are on the road, they are taking on an equally bad defensive team in the New Jersey Devils. The Devils are averaging 3.58 goals against per game (28th) and are on the tail-end of a back to back in which they lost 2-1 in Columbus while giving up 38 shots on goal. Mark Stone, Colin White and Brady Tkachuk make up the top line for the Senators and all three also play on the top power play unit. This gives the line full-game correlation and elite upside.

Cold snap offers buy-low opportunity on rookie

Brady Tkachuk and the Senators offense has slowed down here recently, particularly Tkachuk who is pointless in seven straight. A matchup in Detroit is not the most appealing, but Tkachuk figures to be leaned on heavily, and last time out he matched his season-high in ice time (20 minutes). Tkachuk is still too cheap on FanDuel ($4,500) and his price is down almost $1,000 on DraftKings. With most gravitating toward the other side of this game (and for good reason), Tkachuk and his linemates Colin White and Mark Stone make for a nice contrarian option in tournaments as Ottawa has no one else they can rely on for offensive production.

This terrible defensive team also has an elite scoring offence this season.

The Ottawa Senators are the worst defensive team in the NHL. However, they are also one of the highest scoring teams as well as their 3.56 goals for per game are fourth in the NHL. The "second" line, if you want to call it that, comprised of Mark Stone, Colin White and Brady Tkachuk is one that is certainly in play tonight. Over their last 10 games, both Stone and Tkachuk have 10 points and White has 7 in his last 9. The trio play on the same power play unit with Thomas Chabot and Bobby Ryan. The Senators power play is tied for 10th in the NHL converting on 22.9 percent of their opportunities.

Two Bad Defensive Teams Square Off

On such a large slate, it will be easy for people to overlook the Detroit-Ottawa game. Both teams will likely be on the outside looking in come playoff time, and it's been largely thanks to letting in for too many goals. Colin White is currently listed as questionable, but is expected to play tonight. Before leaving his last game early with an injury, White had been lighting up the scoresheet with two multi-point outings in three games. His price is still extremely reasonable throughout the industry and can be paired with linemates Mark Stone and Brady Tkachuk.
