Branden Grace Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Field Update for The American Express

D.J. Trahan joined Branden Grace and Ryan Brehm in announcing removal from this week's American Express field. Trahan will not play this week due to a positive COVID test. Michael Gellerman, John Senden, and Rafael Campos have all gained entry into this week's field. Due to the timing of this move players might not get added to the week-long contests, but will be available for showdown contests.

Rory Sabbatini and Branden Grace have been added to the pricing pool

During a normal tour event, the addition of a late player to the field is usually not a player that we would have interest in adding to a roster build. This is not a normal week, and the alternate list for the second major of the year has some pretty good players that would love to gain entry into the event. Rory Sabatini and Branden Grace have both been added to the pricing pool and are ready to use in LineupHQ. Both players have some merit in terms of roster consideration for the week. Sabbatini is a steady ball striker that plays a style of golf that relies on an accurate iron game and timely putting. Although it's been a few years, Grace has faced the pressure of a major championship and knows what it takes to win the U.S. Open. Neither player should carry much weight in terms of ownership, but both are solid options in terms of a GPP flyer.

Scottie Scheffler test positive for COVID-19, will miss the U.S. Open

News broke this evening that standout rookie Scottie Scheffler has tested positive for COVID-19. Scheffler will be replaced in the field by Branden Grace. Scheffler is reportedly asymptomatic and will remain quarantined at his home in Dallas, Texas.

Branden Grace flying under the radar

Branden Grace had a very legitimate chance to win at Colonial last week. Poor play on Sunday kept Grace from ending an almost 4-year winless drought on the PGA Tour. Had Grace finished better on Sunday we could have easily seen him as one of the top owned golfers in what is a very soft pricing format for the week. Ownership has spread out over the week and Grace has fallen from a 10% projection on Monday to 7% by Wednesday night. Even void of great form on Sunday, Branden Grace stands out as a great source of both value and upside. Grace is 4 for 4 in cuts made at Harbor Town including a win. Grace has shot par or better 13 out of his 16 times at Harbor Town and should have plenty of good vibes to build on as he plays a course that fits his game.

Branden Grace flying under the radar

As you make your late evening roster builds for this week's RBC Heritage Classic, there is a strong case to make for adding Branden Grace to your player pool. Currently projected to garnish an ownership level lower than 8% Grace has both the skill set and past course history we are looking for this week. Like many other International golfers in this week's field, Grace has a game that typically performs well in windy conditions. In addition to his win at the 2016 RBC Heritage, Grace has two top 11 or better finishes and has gained 30 strokes tee to green in his only three starts at Harbor Town. While Grace has struggled to put 4 rounds together yet this season, he has played well at times this season and appears closer to posting a top tier finish.

Thinking About Hitting the Lock Button

I absolutely LOVE Grace this week. He may end up being my highest owned golfer in my player pool and that includes both cash games and tournaments. He’s only $7,900 on DraftKings and as of Tuesday, we have his ownership projection right around 10%. That is criminally low given Grace’s record on links courses and his record on difficult courses. He’s not going to win an event where the winning score is 20-under par, that’s just not his game. He’s at his best on courses where par is a good score. Carnoustie should fit right into his skill set. He hits the ball low and is very good with his long irons. He also has a win at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. While the setup is different, Carnoustie is one of the three courses in rotation at that event every year. I basically have two rules when it comes to Grace — play him at the Opens and play him anytime he’s in a Euro Tour event.

Branden Grace to tee it up for the first time as a father

South African golfer Branden Grace welcomed his son Roger into the world a few weeks ago. Currently ranked inside the top 35 in the world, Grace is trending at a very low predicted ownership number for this week's event. A past champion at Harbor Town Links, Grace has proven that he can play well at a Pete Dye golf course. Grace is four for four in cuts made at the TPC Sawgrass and could turn out to be a very interesting GPP play at $7,400 on DraftKings this week. With a field, this strong ownership tends to spread out, and there is absolutely no lack of talent and value in the sub 8k pricing tier this week. Grace at less than 6% predicted ownership offers you a chance to pivot off other popular plays in this price range, and could possibly be the difference maker in terms of taking down a large field GPP.

Branden Grace provides a nice source of salary relief for The WGC Mexico Championship

Strong field events always present a unique dynamic in terms of pricing. With so many talented players in this week’s field, it’s not uncommon to see a world class player priced a bit lower than normal. Currently ranked 28th in the world, Branden Grace is a strong source of value at $7,700 for the first WGC event of the year. Heading into this week Grace already has one worldwide win this season and has posted respectable finishes in his two starts on the PGA Tour in 2018. With the lack of valuable course history to use this week, we must instead look to find edges by looking at the type of golf course in play this week. Club de Golf Chapultepec will feature greens that are dominant in the strain of kikyugrass. According to RotoGrinders contributor and stats specialist Josh Culp, Grace is the type of player that flourishes on kikyugrass. Both his win at Nedbank and his runner-up at the South African Open were on courses with kikyugrass. Even without his prowess on kikyugrass Grace remains a talent to be considered in this price range. With a low projected ownership, Grace should make for an interesting pivot off other popular players in his price range.
