Barnes posted an unimpressive wOBA of 0.237 in 2015 when facing left-handed pitchers. He just is not that good against LHP and I think his coaches even know that because he received 206 plate appearances versus RHP last year, compared to 75 versus LHP. Even with the added opportunity of the leadoff position, the opposing pitcher today is Alex Wood, so playing Barnes feels more like using hope as a strategy today.
