Ducks' defenseman looks for follow-up from multi-point outing

A matchup with the plodding Dallas Stars is not the best for scoring, but Brandon Montour is a well-rounded defenseman. Over his last five games, Montour has two goals, an assist, seven shots on goal and six blocks. Montour's price continues to be affordable across the industry (DraftKings - $4,500 & FanDuel - $4,200), and he makes for a solid option in all formats. If looking for a unique way to approach tournaments, one route is to pair Montour with his partner Hampus Lindholm who is moderately priced and sees power play time as well as contributing with blocks.

Ducks' defenseman seeks return to scoresheet

With the injuries to Cam Fowler and Hampus Lindholm, Montour has taken on a much larger role. And while Montour's four game scoring streak (1G, 5A) came to an end last night in Tampa Bay, the Florida Panthers are a far more generous defense. Montour skates on the team's top power play unit and has flashed some huge upside lately, as evidenced by his three-point night 10 days ago, or his seven shots on goal to go along six blocks in the game prior to that. At sub-$5,000 prices across the industry, Brandon is an interesting target in all formats.

This defenseman will get a boost with Cam Fowler injured

Although Brandon Montour was already playing on the top power play unit, he will still see a boost without Cam Fowler in the lineup as he becomes their best offensive defenseman. He has picked up the pace offensively as of late picking up seven points, including three goals, in his last 10 games. He is also averaging two shots and 0.9 blocks per game over that same stretch. The Ducks are hosting the Minnesota Wild who will have Devan Dubnyk in net. Dubnyk has struggled this season with a 2.52 goals against average and the Ducks should be able to score a few on him.

Montour In Favorable Spot Tonight

There should be plenty of offense in the Anaheim-Edmonton game, and Montour is in a nice spot to produce. He comes cheaper than Cam Fowler, and the savings makes sense for plugging in Montour. The production has not been materially different between the two blueliners and both skate on the top power play unit. Montour is seeing well over 20 minutes of ice time and grants exposure to the key Anaheim forwards from his top defensive pairing. Offensive potential has been shown from Montour, who has three goals and two assists over his last 10 games, and he will likely get multiple pucks on goal. Given his salary, matchup, and role on the team, Montour offers great upside.

A promotion to the top power play unit has been great for this defensemen

Brandon Montour was a punt that I loved to use earlier in the season but as he season more ice time, especially on the power play and picks up the points, his price has crept up to the mid $4k range on DraftKings. He is still a solid play picking up five points, 12 blocks and 18 shots over his last 10 games including three of those points with the man advantage. The Devils are playing on the tail-end of a back to back tonight which puts the Ducks in an even better spot.

Discounted defenseman set a career-high in minutes last time out

Brandon Montour does not have the most upside, but he along with Shea Theodore are the best punt defensemen of the night. Montour logged a career-high 26:19 of ice time in Anaheim's most recent game against the St. Louis Blues as he took three shots on goal while picking up an assist. With the Anaheim Ducks checking in as the biggest favorite of the night, gaining some exposure to them through Montour is a worthy route to take, particularly in cash games, given the number of stud forwards worth paying up for. Montour potted a goal in a previous meeting against the Canucks this season and should easily hit value tonight, though the upside is relatively limited.

Pay Up For This Line Tonight

Finally healthy after missing time due to injury, veteran playmaker Ryan Getzlaf has 45 points in 41 games played for the Ducks. Reunited on Anaheim's top line alongside goal scorers Rickard Rakell and Corey Perry, Getzlaf draws a fantastic matchup against a Washington team that is finally starting to show their true colors; entering tonight's game allowing the most high danger scoring chances among road teams on tonight's slate. Also featured on Anaheim's top power play unit, Getzlaf, Perry, and Rakell should have no problems paying off their steep price tags against a Capitals team that owns a -24 penalty differential over their past 15 games.

Duckling drooling to take on NHL's worst penalty kill

With Cam Fowler falling out of favor on the team's top power play, Brandon Montour makes for an interesting punt play night in and night out. Moreover, Montour logged the most minutes of any player last night (25:06) and was second to only Rickard Rakell for most minutes logged with the man-advantage. While there is no guarantee he will stay there, Montour figures to be involved tonight against the National Hockey League's worst penalty kill. Montour is dirt-cheap and is worthy of a roster spot, especially on a night when Brent Burns is not a priority in a tough road matchup with the Minnesota Wild.

Ducks Fly Together

With the Ducks playing host to the Boston Bruins tonight, it is a fine spot to fire up the dynamic young defenseman. While others may go for the shiny new object in Jan Rutta after his three point performance the other night, I'd prefer the similarly priced Brandon Montour. A better guarantee for lots of power play time, and a guy who shoots enough to give you a very safe floor. Unless Tuukka Rask turns into vintage Tuukka, there's goals to be had for these Ducks.

The Best Bang For Your Buck On The Blue Line?

With Cam Fowler out due to injury, Brandon Montour has really stepped up his game, logging heavy minutes while making his presence known on the Ducks top power play unit, which happens to be ranked fifth overall. The Nashville Predators have been a very good defensive team so far this season, but they have not been a disciplined team, taking the second-most minor penalties in National Hockey League, which opens the door for Montour and the Ducks potent power play. Montour is very reasonably priced across the industry and I think we see him hit the score sheet in this contest.
