Brayden Schenn Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
This center continues to drive his team in their divisional race
Ryan O'Reilly was acquired by the St. Louis Blues for practically peanuts in the offseason considering how dominant for the Blues. He's centering the top line with Brayden Schenn and Vladimir Tarasenko on his wings. The Blues started off the season horrendously but have completely turned things around and are actually chasing their division lead with just 3 games to go. They've put up a solid 53.33 CF% over the last month which ranks 8th and a road game against the Chicago Blackhawks is a chance for them to continue this run.
Cheap winger could fly under radar given the number of options tonight
A disappointing effort from St. Louis after racing out to a 2-0 lead last night could keep ownership in check for the Blues' top line tonight given the number of strong line stacks available tonight. Schenn checks in under $5,000 on DraftKings, and while he is priced more appropriately on FanDuel ($5,900), St. Louis' top line still makes for a strong stack. Last night New Jersey was torched by Detroit's top line, who went off for the second consecutive night. Schenn has been explosive alongside O'Reilly and Tarasenko and with the ever-generous Cory Schneider set to man the crease for New Jersey, the Blues are in a prime bounceback spot.
This winger has turned his season around
The St. Louis Blues have been one of the hottest teams in the NHL over the last couple months. They have a premium matchup tonight against the struggling New York Rangers. Over the last month, the Rangers have had a 46.78 CF% which ranks 26th and have given up a 60.62 CA/60 which is the sixth-most. Remember when Vladimir Tarasenko was having a terrible season? Well since January 1st, Tank has put up an impressive 18 goals and 38 points in 33 games and playing alongside Ryan O'Reilly and Brayden Schenn on the Blues top line is an elite spot tonight. This line plays on the top power play unit in their entirety which gives them full-game correlation and elite upside.
You cannot get a better matchup than this right now.
With Vladimir Tarasenko still on the shelf, Ryan O'Reilly has been centering Brayden Schenn and Robert Thomas over the last couple games. O'Reilly leads the team in assists with 41, points with 67 and is second in goals and shots with 26 and 192 respectively. The matchup against the Ottawa Senators is about as good as you can get. Over their last 12 games, the Senators have allowed an absurd 50 goals (4.17 per game). The St. Louis Blues possession over the last month has solid as their 53.27 CF% ranks fourth in the NHL and their 59.32 CF/60 ranks 9th. On the Senators side of things, they have a 23rd ranked CF% rate of 48.60 and allow a 60.16 CA/60 which is the 10th most.
This center has an elite matchup tonight on home ice
With Vladimir Tarasenko expected to be out again tonight, the St. Louis Blues will be rolling a top line of Brayden Schenn, Ryan O'Reilly and Robert Thomas. This line is actually a bit of a value when you consider how cheap Robert Thomas is. The Blues have been a great possession team over the last month with a 52.99 CF% which is the fifth-best mark over that stretch. They're taking on the Arizona Coyotes who have a 28th ranked 46.94 CF% over the last month which is a great matchup. Additionally, the Coyotes are on the tail-end of a back-to-back which puts the Blues in an even more favourable spot.
Top liner targeting return in Anaheim
Brayden Schenn should be back for St. Louis tonight. The Blues were riding an 11 game win streak, and in their first game without him, the Dallas Stars smoked them 5-2. With Schenn back tonight, joining the Blues' potent top line, he is a nice mid-range option across the industry. Schenn figures to reclaim his spot on the team's top power play unit, and though John Gibson can stifle a team here and there, the Ducks are a poor hockey team. Furthermore, they played last night and lack the bodies to keep up with a physical St. Louis team. Schenn, O'Reilly and Tarasenko make for one of the best stacks of the night.
This player has been much better than many believe due to one abysmal month.
Vladimir Tarasenko has been on a tear since the calendar changed to 2019. He has put up 11 goals and 22 points in 17 games since January 1st and has really removed any doubts that many were having. In reality, it was really just a horrific December that was causing his season totals to be way down. His 2 points in 13 December games were abysmal, but outside of that month he has put up 42 points in 41 games which is on par with what we have come to expect out of Tank. Tonight the St. Louis Blues visit the Arizona Coyotes — a team that as mentioned above, has barely hung on to their playoff hopes. However, over the last month, Arizona has struggled with a 65.82 CA/60 which ranks 28th and a 46.56 CF% which ranks 27th.
One bad month has skewed this wingers season totals.
The St. Louis Blues are third in the NHL over the last month with a 54.83 CF%. This is not what one would expect from a team that has struggled to pick up wins this season. However, they've been playing pretty well but their goaltending has struggled mightily. The top line consists of Vladimir Tarasenko, Brayden Schenn and Ryan O'Reilly. O'Reilly easily leads the team in points with 52 in 53 games with Tarasenko a distant second with just 35 points. It's a down season for Tarasenko, but it was mostly from a horrific December in which he put up just 2 points in 13 games. Outside of that, he has 33 points in 36 games which is definitely solid.
Cheap center viable in all formats
While unlikely, it is still possible the Blues will not see the same sort of ownership levels we saw last night in Carolina's top line. The Hurricanes were flat all night and played their most awful game of the season by far. Meanwhile, St. Louis has been trending upward recently as they have sported a positive expected goal differential for more than a month. Schenn who checks in around $5,000 on DraftKings and FanDuel makes for an excellent tournament play with his affordable linemates Jaden Schwartz and Vladimir Tarasenko. Ottawa's defensive shortcomings are no secret despite their success over the last week.
**Edit @ 10:55 - The Blues' lines are a huge question mark tonight as David Perron was not at the morning skate. Tentatively, the team's top line is Pat Maroon, Ryan O'Reilly and Vladimir Tarasenko with the second line being Jaden Schwartz, Brayden Schenn and Alex Steen. This is a situation you will have to monitor as Steen has not been taken off injured reserve yet**
This player's struggles are the product of one bad month.
The struggles this season have been documented in-depth for Vladimir Tarasenko, but it was really just the month of December that was a nightmare for him. He had an abysmal 2 points (both goals) in 13 December games. Other than that, he has a respectable — but not great — 13 goals and 27 points in 31 games. With four goals and seven points in seven January games, there is hope that Tarasenko can have a hot second half to the season. There is likely to be a bit of positive regression to the mean in the goal-scoring department as his 9.4 percent shooting percentage is down over 3 percentage points from his career 12.7 percent shooting percentage. If he gets that back up, along with the St. Louis Blues simply playing better as of late, than he could have a big second half.
