Brendan Gallagher Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

This winger hit a new career high in goals

Brendan Gallagher has hit a new career high in goals with 33 — passing his previous best of 31 just last season. The Habs have been a team that has been atop the possession standings this season and the last month has been no different. They have a 53.81 CF% which ranks 7th since March 1st and their 65.31 CF/60 ranks 3rd. Tonight they host a Tampa Bay Lightning team that is on the tail-end of a back to back. Tampa will have Edward Pasquale in net who is a 28 year old with one career NHL start. While some of his AHL seasons have been alright, others have been dreadful. This should be a great opportunity for Montreal to pile on some goals as they are desperate to try and make the playoffs.

This line stack may come under-owned

Brendan Gallagher, Phillip Danault, and Tomas Tatar have looked great together since being reunited on the top line. Gallagher has continued to fire the on net at a torrid pace, with 16 shots on goal in his past four games. I expect this loaded up top line to generate plenty of chances against a Chicago team that has struggled all year keeping the puck out of their net. Adding power-play quarterback Shea Weber is my preferred correlation play at defense.

Stacking this line could be a fantastic leverage play.

With Boston being the second-largest favourite tonight, Tuukka Rask is likely going to see heavy ownership both in cash games and tournaments. With that in mind, going with a line stack from the Montreal Canadiens — a team that is actually playing really well according to their underlying numbers — could give you some fantastic leverage. My stack of choice would be Phillip Danault, Brendan Gallagher and Jonathan Drouin. Over the last month, Danault leads the Habs in points with 13 in 14 games. While Drouin and Gally haven't had the same success over that time frame as Danault, the stack still works. This is a line you want to dominate at even strength as you don't even get two of these players on the same power play unit. This is going to be a low-owned, high-risk/high-reward play.

This second line is in a sneaky good spot tonight.

The Montreal Canadiens' "second line" was definitely been their top line since December 1st as Phillip Danault led the way with 13 points in 15 games. Tomas Tatar was also solid with 12 points over that stretch with Brendan Gallagher rounding the line out with a respectable, but not great, 8 points. However, Gallagher did fire a team-high 56 shots. The Habs are hosting the Vancouver Canucks — a team coming off an OT win against the Ottawa Senators last night as they are in the midst of their Eastern Canada swing. With Vancouver on the tail-end of a back to back, the Canadiens look to take advantage of the tired Canucks.

Montreal forward a strong tournament target

Brendan Gallagher doesn't log the big minutes like other forwards, yet he sits just outside the top 10 in most shots on goal. This month Gallagher is averaging over four shots on goal per game but the points haven't really been there, recording just three goals and a helper in nine contests. Given that Philipp Grubauer will be the most owned goalie, pivoting to Montreal in some form is recommended in tournaments. Colorado played quite possibly their worst game of the season last time out against the Islanders, looking very lethargic and slow. It may carry over to tonight, and Gallagher (DraftKings - $5,200 & FanDuel - $6,000) can make them pay.

This player is on one of the best possession lines in the NHL.

Of all lines with at least 100 even strength minutes together, the line of Tomas Tatar, Phillip Danault and Brendan Gallagher have put up the best possession stats on the season. Their league-leading 64.83 CF% is absolutely incredible and although the offence has stalled a bit, they are a big reason for the Habs success this season. They're taking on a Boston Bruins team that is starting to get healthy again but with Patrice Bergeron, Jake DeBrusk, Zdeno Chara and Kevan Miller still on the shelf, the Habs should have the edge. Boston is also on the tail-end of a back to back so the fatigue could be a factor with back-up Jaroslav Halak between the pipes.

Overlooked winger looks for repeat performance

Brendan Gallagher is not the cheapest, but he is still affordable on both DraftKings ($5,500) and FanDuel ($6,500) given the number of forwards priced ahead of him. Max Domi has received all the hype for Montreal given his torrid start to the season, but there's no doubt Brendan Gallagher is still the most talented player on the team. Gallagher is averaging over three shots on goal per game and burned the Capitals for two goals earlier this month. For tonight's slate, Brendan is a viable cash game play given his propensity to shoot the puck, and he makes a lot of sense in tournaments, even as a solo play against an overachieving Pheonix Copley.

This player is one of the smartest Marc Bergevin acquisitions in his tenure as Habs GM.

Tomas Tatar has been lights out in Montreal this season after being acquired from the Vegas Golden Knights in the offseason — a team that paid a premium for him at the trade deadline last season. Tatar has 13 points and 47 shots in 15 games this season for the Habs and is currently playing on a line with Brendan Gallagher and centered by Phillip Danault. This is a line that really only has value at even strength as Gallagher and Tatar are not on the same power play unit and Danault doesn't even play with the man-advantage. So stack this line in tournaments but know that they'll need to do damage at even strength to pay off.

Don't Overlook Gallagher Against Devils

This is another spot where the opposing team will likely soak up ownership, but there is plenty of opportunity available. Trusting the Canadiens right now is hard, to be sure, given that they seem to have folded like a cheap lawnchair in a stiff breeze over the past few weeks. Still, the Devils are not a good defensive team, especially on the road, and Gallagher is a strong driver of play. He can dial up shot volume, and given the struggles of "(player-popup #cory-schneider)Cory Schneider":/players/cory-schneider-14527, that could pay off well tonight. Gallagher and the top line are likely to see the top line of New Jersey, which should lead to high event hockey. When on the ice, that line has allowed a shot attempt per hour, as well as over 33 scoring chances and an exploitable 13.5 high-danger shot attempts. That will work Montreal top line, which has fine fundamentals despite the lack of success Montreal has had lately.

This under-the-radar line could be a solid cheap play tonight

The Habs are home to the Senators tonight, who have struggled to keep the puck out of the net. With so many expensive lines on the slate with Tampa Bay, Boston, St. Louis and Winnipeg on the slate, there needs to be some value somewhere. The value line that I will be turning to tonight is MTL3 which is made up of Charles Hudon, Tomas Plekanec and Brendan Gallagher. They are in a solid matchup against the depth lines of the Sens and although these three don't get too much time on the PP (Hudon and Gallagher are on PP2 and Plekanec doesn't play on either unit with any regularity), you aren't going to get a cheap line with much high-end power play exposure. Gallagher and Hudon actually sit second and third on the team with a 71.6 and 68.18 CF/60 respectively. Although the points haven't quite been there this season, other than for Gallagher, tonight presents an opportunity to change that.
