Brent Burns Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
This red hot winger draws a great matchup on home ice
Evander Kane has five goals and two assists in his last four games. Including two goals against the Canucks on Monday where we seen San Jose put up seven goals. San Jose currently has the second highest xGF/60 in the NHL. Kane, Tomas Hertl, and Joonas Donskoi all play together on the second line. With last change, I expect this line stack to avoid the talented first line of Vancouver. On the blue line I would try to add Brent Burns to the stack. While only correlating with Hertl on the top power-play unit, Burns has been logging huge minutes with Erik Karlsson being sidelined due to injury.
Defenseman Should See Elite Usage
Brent Burns is already one of the best fantasy assets in the NHL due to his elite usage for the Sharks, but he's set to see even more minutes and responsibilities with Erik Karlsson out until after the All-Star Break. I wouldn't be surprised to see Burns approach 30 minutes of ice time, and he will likely work with both the first and second power play units. The matchup against the Panthers is a favorable one, as they rank in the bottom 5 in the NHL in goals allowed.
Defenseman in Excellent Bounce-back Spot
I wrote about Brent Burns yesterday, and he produced a rare fantasy dud by his lofty standard, registering just three shots on goal and no points. Prior to last night, he had 10+ DK points in three straight games. Injuries to the blue line for the Sharks has led to even more of a dependence on Burns and teammate Erik Karlsson, who have both logging close to 30 minutes lately. They are on the second of a back-to-back, so their workloads could be slightly less, but I'd still expect 25+ minutes from both. They should be staples in your lineups and are relatively affordable compared to their forward counterparts.
Elite Defenseman is Most Consistent Fantasy Asset
Brent Burns has everything you want in a fantasy player. He has a consistently high floor due to his shots on goal and blocked shots, while also having a high ceiling due to his ability to find the scoresheet. He has 10+ DK points in three straight games, a ridiculous feat. Injuries to the blue line for the Sharks has led to even more of a dependence on Burns and teammate Erik Karlsson, who have both logged about 30 minutes over the last two games. They face a Kings team who has struggled mightily on the penalty kill with the 3rd worst percentage in the league. San Jose should have no problem tallying a power play goal or two, and their defensemen should be right in the middle of the action.
Late Night Hammers Will Do Some Work
Check the recent game logs on both Brent Burns and Erik Karlsson and you will realize why they are both priced in the top four on both FanDuel and DraftKings this evening. Burns and his 13 points over the last nine games leads all NHL defenseman in scoring over the last three weeks while Karlsson’s 12 points is right behind him despite missing two games along the way. I’m not saying that the Sharks can beat the best team in the league but their 12-4-4 record on home ice would surely indicate that they will be in the game. Burns leads the team with 37 assists and 44 points while Karlsson has just recently come up to the standard that he is used to playing at.
Lock In Elite Defenseman
Brent Burns is a usage monster for the Sharks, and the addition of Erik Karlsson has done little to change that. A look at Burns' game log shows how dominant he can be for fantasy purposes. Despite his team getting blown out, Burns had a pair of pairs an eight shots on goal against the Flames. He's never shy about getting pucks on net, which gives him a reliably high floor. Tonight, I expect the matchup against Colorado to be a high-event game, the type Burns typically flourishes in.
Giordano hot as Flames keep scoring
Brent Burns is an obvious choice this evening for many of the same reasons that make a strong case to play Timo Meier. Instead of writing Burns up let’s go with another defenseman that has been hot of late. Mark Giordano of the Calgary Flames has registered nine of his 14 points over the last seven games while getting 26 shots on net over the last two weeks. That’s the most of any defenseman not named Oscar Klefbom who has ripped 29 shots on goal over Edmonton’s last seven games. The difference between Giordano and most defensemen that have got a lot of shots to the net is the fact that he is actually getting the points to go along with the high shot volume.
Top line in great spot on home ice
The San Jose Sharks play host to the New York Islanders tonight. The Sharks currently have the highest implied goal total set at 3.71. Joe Pavelski and Evander Kane were reunited on the top line last game, along with Kevin Labanc. They looked great together last game posting a combined one goal, three assists, and nine shots on goal. However, they were over shadowed by Logan Couture’s hat trick. While both Shark’s top lines are definitely in play, I expect the first line to go slightly lowed owned given the second line’s recent performance. With Kane and Pavelski, you also get two-thirds of the team’s top power play unit. Pairing them up with Erik Karlsson or Brent Burns, gives you elite upside in this matchup.
Burns starting to heat up (get it?)
After a sluggish start Brent Burns seems to be back on track as he has grabbed an assist in each of his last four games. That gives him six on the year as it's only a matter of time before he starts lightning the lamp. he has been in on three of the five power play goals that the team has scored and that should serve him well tonight considering that the Islanders are killing penalties at a 76% clip.
The Top Play On The Blue Line?
Speaking of that firepower on the San Jose back line Brent Burns now has another partner that can easily lead all defensemen in points this season. Of course I am talking about Erik Karlsson who was traded to the Sharks over the summer. The only question we have here is whether or not either player will have their workload cut because of each other’s presence. Karlsson has logged over 26 minutes per game over the last year while Burns checks in at more than 24 minutes per game over that same time frame. Even if either player's minutes drop they will stay man the points on what could be the best power play unit in the league. Both players have high floors and high ceilings, making them the cream of the crop on the blue line.
