Brett Kennedy Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Nothing Extravagant

Brett Kennedy will go overlooked but I think there's a chance he's the best starting pitcher taking the mound in this game. Kennedy has extremely unimpressive numbers through his four Major League starts but he's surely not as bad as his 7.58 ERA would indicate. Friday's home matchup against the Rockies is by far the best matchup he's had as a Big League pitcher as the Rockies rank dead last in wRC+ versus right handed pitchers. I'm not expecting an extravagant strikeout performance out of Kennedy, even though the Rockies do have the ninth highest strikeout rate (23.5%) in the league versus RHP but this shapes up as a spot where Kennedy can return value on the slate's cheapest price tag.

Can't Be As Bad As The First Time

I tend to take chances more than most on these young pitchers, and I think Brett Kennedy is an interesting tournament play tonight. No one is going to play him after how bad his Major League debut was in Milwaukee. He averaged 93mph in that first start, but the thing that stood out to me was the 38% usage on the slider. With Trout out and Ohtani not likely to play the field in the NL park, this is going to be a pretty right-handed heavy lineup, and that slider could be very effective tonight. Justin Upton hits sliders well, but the rest of the projected starters have struggled with sliders.

Kennedy was 10-0 with a 2.72 ERA in AAA this season, and he posted a 22.1% strikeout rate with a 1.12 WHIP and a .60 HR/9 in 16 starts. He's extremely cheap and he will allow you to get a top stack and a good second pitcher to go along with him.

Tough debut facing five batters above a 105 wRC+ and .200 ISO vs RHP last calendar year

Brett Kennedy was an 11th round pick in 2015. The 24 year-old righty comes with no prospect hype, but he does have a formidable 15+ K-BB% in 42 starts between AA and AAA since the start of last season. His 52.6 GB% at AAA this season is the highest of his professional career. Though the Brewers do have a 25.1 K% at home and vs RHP, he gets his first start in a tough park against a team that's added some offense at the trade deadline. At 4.93 implied runs, the Brewers are a top five team tonight. Each of the first six batters in the order are above a 105 wRC+ vs RHP over the last calendar year. Lorenzo Cain (110 wRC+, .100 ISO) is the only one below a .200 ISO. Jesus Aguilar (139 wRC+, .304 ISO) and Eric Thames (132 wRC+, .305 ISO) have dealt out the most punishment.
