Bryce Petty to start for the Jets

With Josh McCown now out for the season, there was some speculation to whether or not the Jets would take a look at Christian Hackenberg. For now, the team will start the more experience of the two quarterbacks in Bryce Petty. And by experienced we mean he has at least started and played a complete NFL game. Still yet to play a snap in the NFL Hackenberg must patiently wait his turn as the team looks to Petty in a tough matchup vs the Saints. The Jets figure to struggle in the hands of either quarterback, and opposing defenses make for an interesting streaming option for the final weeks of the season.

Josh McCown to miss the rest of the season

The injury news has not been good for starting QB's this Monday, and Jet's coach Todd Bowles confirmed today that the team will be without Josh McCown for the remainder of the season. McCown's broken hand will require surgery thus moving Bryce Petty into the starters role moving forward. Petty started 4 games last season and will have pretty big shoes to fill in the place of McCown. With three games of 300 yards or more this season, McCown was in the middle of the best season of his career. The Jets offense under McCown had the ability to push the ball downfield when needed, and it remains a big question mark if Petty will have the same kind of connection with up and coming wideout Robby Anderson.

Bryce Petty placed on IR

Welp, it looks like the Jets will give Ryan Fitzpatrick at least one more start when they take on the Bills this Sunday. Petty tore his labrum this past weekend after attempting just three passes. Fitzpatrick stepped in and was instantly horrendous, completing 38.1% of his passes, throwing two interceptions, and posting a QBR of 5.9, according to ESPN. With Fitzpatrick under center, it'll be hard to trust any skill players on the Jets outside of Bilal Powell. Buffalo's DST will be a popular option this weekend, and rightfully so, Fitzpatrick has thrown the second-most interceptions this season, despite being benched for several games.

Bryce Petty will start for Jets in Week 16

Petty (chest) got lit up against the Dolphins when his offensive line took a play off. His tests came back negative though and Coach Todd Bowles confirmed he would start on Saturday. He wasn't playing great before he exited in Week 15, posting a very poor 14.5 QBR rating, according to ESPN. Robby Anderson seems to have a true connection with Petty; he caught 4-of-6 targets for 80 yards, including a 40-yard touchdown. He really struggled to get in any type of rhythm with Brandon Marshall, who caught 1-of-11 targets for 16 yards. Petty targeted Bilal Powell the most; the running back piled up 11 receptions and 78 yards on 12 targets. While Petty should be throwing a lot this weekend against the Patriots, as they're 16.5-point underdogs, it'll be hard to trust any player on the Jets; they have an implied team total of just 13.75 points.

Bryce Petty will start for Jets going forward

The Bryce Petty era is offically underway as coach Todd Bowles announced the second-year quarterback will start the final four weeks of the season. Petty will have those four games to show he can be the future for the Jets. He'll get the 49ers this weekend, who rank 24th in pass DVOA. While that's a nice matchup, he won't be a great fantasy option. In his only other start this season, he had a 24.4 QBR, according to ESPN, throwing for 153 yards, one touchdown, and one interception against the Rams. Their game with San Francisco currently has a low total of 44.5 points and the 49ers are favored by 2.5, giving the Jets an implied team total of 21 points. That should drop before kickoff though; the line opened with a 46.5 point total and a 1-point spread (49ers favored), but has been moving against the Jets since last night's embarrassing loss, presumably because Petty was subsequently named the starter.

Bryce Petty will be the Jets starting QB vs. Los Angeles

The Jets have finally decided to move on from starting QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. Today they'll look to get second-year QB Bryce Petty a chance to prove himself. In the preseason, Petty 32/56 for 481 yards, three TDs and one INT. He also took six sacks on 63 drop backs. He'll face a Rams defense that ranks 15th against the pass using Football Outsiders DVOA. With Petty at the helm this should be a slight downgrade for WR Brandon Marshall along with the rest of the Jets offense. IOn the opposite side, the Rams defense definitely deserves some consideration.

Jets unsure if Ryan Fitzpatrick can play Sunday

Fitzpatrick has a sprained MCL, and Coach Todd Bowles told the media he doesn't know whether he can play on it or not. The Jets' quarterback was limited in practice Wednesday. If he ends up sitting, Bryce Petty would get the start. Petty has only attempted two passes in his career. It would be a good spot to target the Rams DST. They're ninth in turnovers per driver, according to Football Outsiders, and the game total has dropped to 39.5 points.

Ryan Fitzpatrick considered day to day with sprained MCL

Coach Todd Bowles said he wanted Fitzpatrick to be able to practice by Friday in order to play this weekend against the Rams. If he can't go, Bryce Petty would get the start. Neither quarterback will be a viable fantasy options. The Rams rank 15th in pass DVOA, according to Football Outsiders, and the game total is set at 41 points, the lowest on the board. It'll be a nice spot to target the Rams' defense, especially if Petty is under center. They're coming off a five-sack performance against the Panthers. If they can put that type of pressure on Petty, who has only dropped back twice in his career, it could turn into some serious fantasy goodness for LA's DST.
