Bud Cauley Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Bud Cauley and Brian Gay are both no longer in the field

The Sanderson Farms Championship field got a bit more player movement on Tuesday as both Bud Cauley and Brian Gay have decided to not play this week. Kiradech Aphibarnrat and Matt Every have been added to the field as replacements. Both players will receive projections if and when they get added to the player pool.

Approach + Scrambling = Success at Copperhead

If around the green game is important this week, then we should absolutely have interest in Cauley, who is ranked first in this field in that statistic. In the past, we’ve thought of Cauley as a ball striker without a short game, but after being forced to miss a lot of last season, he obviously put in some work around the greens. His irons finally came alive last week at the PLAYERS Championship where he gained four strokes on approach. If that continues this week and he can continue to gain strokes around the green, he could really surprise some people with a high finish.

Low Owned Play with Upside

Cauley isn’t a golfer that I expect to garner much ownership this week. He is coming off of a missed cut at the Genesis Open, but has gained strokes with his approaches in four straight events. He’s ranked 20th in the field in birdie or better percentage and 18th in bogey avoidance. Making birdies while avoiding bogeys is critical on a course like PGA National. He has only played here one time, finishing in a tie for 27th. I really think he could surprise people this week, especially if the course shows its teeth. These greens are very hard to hit, which is why scrambling typically plays a big role here. Cauley is ranked third in this field in strokes gained around the green.

Bud Cauley set to return to action this week

Regarded in many circles as a great young talent on Tour, Bud Cauley is set to return to action this week after missing almost 4 months of time due to an automobile accident. Through the use of social media, Cauley has kept fans up to date on the progress of making it back to competitive golf. Priced higher than we would like to pay for a golfer who should have a little bit of competitive rust, Cauley remains a deep GPP flyer for the first event of the new season. Evident by his 124th finish in last year's FedEx Cup race ( despite missing the last 3 months of the season) Cauley is a talent worth betting on the long run. It's good to see Cauley return from such a serious accident, and he is a player worth keeping an eye on early and often this season.

Wells Fargo Championship WD Alert: Louis Oosthuizen, Cameron Smith, Jonas Blixt, and Bud Cauley all withdrew

No injuries were cited regarding any of the four withdrawals. Cameron Smith and Jonas Blixt partnered and won the Zurich Classic on Monday. The C. Smith/Blixt team defeated Scott Brown and Kevin Kisner via a four-hole playoff. Perhaps a little extra celebrating is in store for Smith and Blixt this week. Bud Cauley also performed well last week, he and partner Justin Thomas finished T5. Louis Oosthuizen finished T24 at the Zurich Classic, partnering with fellow South African Branden Grace. Oosthuizen has an extensive WD history over the last few years, but this is his first withdrawal of the season. Alternates Tyler Aldridge, Stuart Appleby, Steve Wheatcroft, and Willy Willcox will be teeing it up on Thursday at Eagle Point Golf Club.
