Goalie seeks to take advantage of situational spot

Patrick Kane missed last night's contest against the Vancouver Canucks, so as of Thursday morning, his status is still up in the air. If he misses, it would be a nice boost to Edmonton and Cam Talbot. The Blackhawks have dropped three consecutive games, and while Talbot has been hit or miss recently, allowing four goals last time out, preceded by allowing one goal, one goal, and six goals in a wild game against the Penguins, it is a great spot for the Oilers and him. Talbot has a good chance of piling up the saves and the win, backed by the unstoppable number 97, much like last Sunday when Talbot made 31 saves on 32 shots for the overtime victory at the United Center.

**Edit @ 12:45 - Talbot will get the night off as Mikko Koskinen is set to get his second start of the season. The Finnish netminder posted a 22-4-1 record with a 1.57 goals against average and .937 save percentage in 29 appearances for SKA St. Petersburg in the Kontinental Hockey League last season. Koskinen is technically sound and has a lot of experience playing for the Finnish national team. This is a great spot for the Oilers off a home loss, and Koskinen checks in at just $7,300 on both DraftKings and FanDuel**

Disappointing season for Oilers' netminder wraps up tonight

After a brilliant 2016-17 campaign, Cam Talbot has been mediocre at best in 2017-18 going 30-31-3 with a 3.04 GAA and .907 SV% -- a far cry from the 42-22 record, 2.39 GAA and .919 SV% last season, when he recorded seven shutouts. Yet, an opportunity presents itself tonight as the Oilers check in as a hefty favorite against the road-weary Canucks who are fresh off their swan song game for the Sedins. As average as Talbot has been this year, he has been a little better in the second half of the season. At sub-$8,000 price tags on both FanDuel and DraftKings, Talbot makes for a top tournament target to save some salary in a game the Oilers should win. Count on Cam to make 30 saves and allow two goals or less.

Top Goalie Tonight?

We have yet another night where finding a lock in goal is a difficult task. We do not have a huge favorite on this three-game slate, and none of the home teams are really safe bets for a win, so perhaps we are best to concentrate more on GPPs than cash games this evening. With that being said, I will likely roll with Cam Talbot in net, as he seems like the safest option for a win and he should still see enough saves to be relevant in all formats. Although Talbot has struggled of late, the matchup is still a plus one, as the Florida Panthers lead the National Hockey League in shots per game (34.7), but they have trouble scoring goals (21st overall), especially on the road (28th overall). So whether you are playing cash games, or tournaments, Talbot sets up well tonight.

Edmonton goalie looks to snap cold streak in desert

Cam Talbot has cooled off big time after a hot stretch which saw him win seven straight starts. Since then, the Edmonton netminder has just one win in his last eight starts. Luckily for him and the disappointing Oilers, tonight's opponent is none other than the Arizona Coyotes who have collected a pathetic 26 points (10-27-6) during the 2017-18 season. Arizona is averaging a paltry 2.26 goals per game and sported a Western Conference-worst 1.31 goal differential last month. While the Oilers have a myriad of issues, Talbot is cheap and could be in line for a bevy of saves and a win. Take a chance with Cam, particularly on FanDuel where he checks in at a minuscule $7,600 price tag.

Take Advantage Of This Goalie's Reasonable Price

If you're looking for a moderately priced goalie with plenty of upside tonight, consider taking Cam Talbot. After a disastrous start to the year, Talbot is starting to find his groove between the pipes; entering tonight's game riding a four game winning streak which includes a solid .927 SV% during that span. He will get a fantastic opportunity to improve upon his recent success tonight against an inconsistent San Jose offense that will be without their leading scorer in Logan Couture. If Edmonton can manage to stay out of the penalty box tonight, Talbot should have no problems turning aside plenty of low quality shots to pay off his very reasonable price tag.

Top Goalie Tonight!

The Edmonton Oilers are the biggest favorite on the board, facing the Arizona Coyotes who have the lowest projected goal total on the night, which makes Cam Talbot a slam dunk for your cash game lineups. Talbot has struggled in 2017-18, but he has looked better of late and it is not like we are afraid of the Coyotes offense. The Desert Dogs rank 24th in shots per contest and 29th in goals per game. Talbot is a lock for the win tonight, and he has shutout upside in this favorable matchup on home ice.

Fire up this goalie in tournaments

The Oilers' defense has been a mess, and so has Cam Talbot, but he did respond last time out, making 20 stops on 22 shots for a 6-2 victory in Detroit. Cam and the Oilers draw an excellent matchup against a Buffalo team sporting the worst xGF/60 (1.84) at 5-on-5 in the National Hockey League. Buffalo has been as bad as years past, and they have really struggled without Rasmus Ristolainen anchoring their blue line. While Talbot will likely see a limited number of shots, he should be able to limit the damage. He is cheap across the industry and will be supported by Connor McDavid and an underachieving offense.

This Goalie Is Your Best Best Tonight!

With only two games on tap and the other game (Nashville at Anaheim) being a coin flip, Cam Talbot rises to the top of our goalie list tonight in all formats. Full disclosure, I am not in love with Talbot tonight, but he does appear to be the safest option for the win. The Oilers desperately need a win and I think they get the job done tonight at the Rogers Place. Talbot has struggled in his last three starts, but I think we see him right the ship tonight with a strong performance. On a night with a lot of question marks in net, Talbot seems like your best bet.

One goalie stands out as the top cash-game option tonight

Talbot emerged as a quality number one goalie for the Oilers last season and ended the season with 42 wins to go along with a rock solid 2.39 GAA and .919 save percentage. He turned away all 26 shots thrown his direction in the season opener against the Calgary Flames on Wednesday and has terrific matchup awaiting him tonight as the Vancouver Canucks averaged just 2.17 goals per game last season and don't figure to be much more potent this time around. Talbot dominated the Canucks in their four meetings last season, going 3-0-1 with a 0.98 GAA and .967 SV% while picking up a pair of shutouts in the process.

Count on this goalie to continue his mastery

In his second season with the Edmonton Oilers, Cam Talbot collected 42 wins and should easily hit 40 wins once again in a watered-down Pacific Division which features the Vegas Golden Knights. Last year, Cam Talbot tallied three wins in three starts with a solid .921 save percentage against the Calgary Flames. The Flames figure to start new acquisition Mike Smith in net, and while Calgary is much better defensively than Smith’s Coyotes were last year, Smith has struggled on the road throughout his career, posting a 7-13-4 record, 3.05 goals against average, and .911 save percentage last season which was preceded by a 6-11-2 record, 2.91 goals against average, and .908 save percentage in the 2015-16 campaign. In the other crease, Cam Talbot should receive sufficient offensive support not only tonight, but all season long. On DraftKings and FantasyDraft, Cam Talbot is the most expensive goalie, but on FanDuel, Cam checks in at a mouth-watering price of $8,300. Look for him to allow two goals or less and pick up the win for an Oilers team with Stanley Cup aspirations.
