Goalie takes on team who has not scored in nearly 200 minutes

Curtis McElhinney has yet to be confirmed, but with Petr Mrazek starting last night and a somewhat soft opponent in Buffalo, it is likely McElhinney will get the nod. Jack Eichel is set to return for the Sabres tonight which will certainly help their offense, but the team has struggled mightily after their hot start to the season. The Sabres have a single regulation win in their last 14 games. Meanwhile, Carolina continues to produce strong results. A sizzling Sergei Bobrovsky stood in their way last night. Curtis (or Mrazek if he starts) make for an affordable option in the crease if looking for a likely win in cash games.

In tournaments, taking a chance on either Linus Ullmark or Carter Hutton makes sense as they should see a heavy number of shots. Though Carolina's offense has been much better with the addition of Nino Niederreiter, time and time again this season we have seen goalies put up massive numbers against Carolina. Buffalo's goalie is cheap, contrarian and could be a difference maker in tournaments.

Finding a goalie on our first big slate after the break

On FanDuel, Carter Hutton checks in at a comical $7,300 due to his recent struggles. Conversely, he is the most expensive goalie on DraftKings at $8,300. Do not let Hutton's topsy-turvy play be too discouraging as he has had some tough matchups, particularly on the road. On home ice Hutton has held it down with a 10-4-2 record, 2.36 GAA and .927 SV% - a stark contrast from his road numbers. Though Hutton will have to deal with Patrick Kane who always loves to play in his hometown, he will be backed by Jack Eichel and company. It would be a mistake not to play Hutton in cash games on FanDuel.

On DraftKings, where goalies are more clustered and evenly priced, some interesting options are Andrei Vasilevskiy ($7,900) who is priced down after some recent struggles, including a trip to New York back in early January. It's a nice price on a quality goalie. Cam Ward who is just $6,800 offers tournament appeal if Buffalo's top line is held in check and Patrick Kane powers the Blackhawks to the road upset as Ward should see 30-plus shots.

Cheap goalie in a good spot for the win

Carter Hutton and the Buffalo Sabres draw a solid matchup at home tonight against the visiting Montreal Canadiens who will start Antti Niemi in net. While Antti has won both of his starts, he has allowed three goals in each of them and has been one of the most beatable goalies in the National Hockey League over the years. Meanwhile, Hutton has been rock solid over the last three seasons, posting a .918, .913 and .931 save percentage, albeit in a limited sample size. The Buffalo Sabres do not have a very good offense, but they have shown some life over their last two games, and much of that has to do with Jeff Skinner who recorded a hat trick last time out while logging a season-high in minutes (20:33). Hutton should see around 30 shots with Skinner and Eichel providing enough goal support for the win.

Offseason goalie acquisition already paying dividends

Carter Hutton flashed massive upside last time out against the New York Rangers, stopping 43 of 44 shots sent his way and posting 10.6 FPTS on DraftKings and 42.4 FPTS on FanDuel. It wouldn't have seemed so impressive then, given that it was against the Rangers, but the Rangers put up a fight against a tough Carolina team yesterday, ultimately falling 8-5. The Sabres are hoping Hutton is the answer to their goaltending woes over the years, and if he continues to play like he has, Buffalo will be more than happy as Hutton posted a save percentage of .922 during the last three seasons. Carter is cheap and could catch a sleepy Vegas team off a hard fought, come from behind victory in Minnesota.

GPP Pivot Goalie

If you're looking to differentiate your lineup from the masses that will likely be rostering Hellebuyck, consider pivoting to Carter Hutton, who has been solid for the Blues this season. Entering tonight's game with an 14-4-1 record to go along with a sparkling .947 SV%, Hutton draws a sneaky good matchup against a Minnesota Wild team that struggles to score on the road. This bodes well for Hutton, who has the luxury of playing behind one of the league's best defensive teams in St. Louis, who have proven more than capable of shutting down teams on home ice over the years. In a game that St. Louis should be able to control, Hutton could go overlooked in tournaments tonight, making him a low-risk, high-reward goalie that should have no problems paying off his steep price tag.

Top Goalie Tonight?

It is another night where I am having trouble locking in to one goalie in cash games. The Carolina Hurricanes and the Dallas Stars are the two biggest favorites, but I just cant trust either Cam Ward or Ben Bishop, and although Bishop seems like the safer option of the two, he may not see very many shots tonight, which brings me to Carter Hutton. The St. Louis Blues are also a decent sized favorite this evening and Hutton has been a rock in goal all season long, posting a 1.74 GAA and a .943 SV%. The Montreal Canadiens are a decent hockey club, but they have struggled to both win games (8-13-1), and score goals (26th overall in goals per game) on the road. Hutton may not be the highest scoring goalie tonight, but he should come away with the win, while making at least 25 saves in the process.

Take Advantage Of This Goalie's Moderate Price

If you're looking to take advantage of price tonight, consider taking Carter Hutton, who has been solid for the Blues this season. Entering tonight''s game with an 11-4-1 record to go along with a sparkling .941 SV%, Hutton draws a sneaky good matchup against an overrated Avalanche team that has been getting all of their production from one line and is not the same team away from home ice. This bodes well for Hutton, who has the luxury of playing behind one of the league's best defensive teams in St. Louis, who have proven more than capable of shutting down one line teams on home ice over the years. In a game that St. Louis should be able to control, Hutton could go overlooked in tournaments tonight, making him a low-risk, high-reward goalie that should have no problems paying off his manageable price tag.

Top Goalie Tonight

The St. Louis Blues are the biggest favorite on the board tonight, moving goaltender Jake Allen to the top of our cash game goalie list. The Blues are one of the National Hockey Leagues best defensive teams and Hutton is having a career year, posting a 1.68 GAA and a .946 SV%. The Blues second line (featuring defensive specialists Paul Stastny and Alex Steen) should be able to keep the Devils top line in check tonight, and as a one line team, that spells trouble for the Devils offense. I expect Hutton to cruise to an easy victory tonight, and I cannot see the Devils scoring more than one goal, making the Blues netminder an excellent choice for your cash game lineup.

This backup has outperformed his starter and in a great spot this evening

Carter Hutton has been sensational this season, outperforming St. Louis Blues starter Jake Allen. Hutton has a 1.64 goals against average and a .949 save percentage and in a great home matchup against the Carolina Hurricanes. The Hurricanes average 34.76 shots per game, which is the second most in the NHL. However, they score just 2.73 goals per game which is the ninth lowest in the NHL. This is a great spot for a goaltender to be in, facing a team that takes a boatload of shots but has trouble scoring. It gives him the upside of making a ton of saves perhaps off of shots from weaker offensive players. Hutton is pretty expensive for a backup goalie, but his play and matchup make him worth the price and he could be very low owned as many will not want to pay that price for a backup.
