Backup goalie should see healthy number of shots
On Tuesday night, 32 year old Chad Johnson turned aside 38 of Carolina's 39 shots as the Blues went onto win 4-1. He draws a similar matchup to Carolina tonight against a Sharks' squad averaging 36.7 shots per game, a Western Conference-best. The situational spot tonight is favorable for the Blues, and while Johnson is not a goalie to get too excited about, he will see a healthy dosage of shots in what amounts to a coin flip game. Furthermore, in what amounts to a coin flip game, Johnson's price is dirt cheap across the industry making him a boom or bust tournament option given the Sharks' high shot volume.
This goaltender should be low-owned even on a short-slate
Chad Johnson and the Buffalo Sabres will be hosting the Ottawa Senators who are rostering a very depleted lineup. Johnson has not been good at all this season, but the Senators have scored just a 1.8 GF/60 over their last 10 games which is 27th in the NHL over that time period. The Sabres are -140 favourites on this three-game slate, which isn't too bad and although Johnson has struggled he makes for a very interesting tournament play that does have upside given that the Senators struggle to score.
This Goalie Will Get the Win
Chad Johnson is off to a miserable start this season (4.08 GAA, .863 SV%), but last season he finished a respectable 18-15-1 (2.59 GAA, .910 SV%) for the Calgary Flames. In two starts against the Canucks, he stopped 58 of 60 shots. Tonight, Johnson and the Buffalo Sabres check in as the heaviest favorite (-160) even though they have just one win in seven attempts. They have the pleasure of a home meeting with a Canuck team that was pasted by the Bruins last night. The Canucks lack depth and could really struggle as the game wears on. The Canucks sport the National Hockey League's worst adjusted xGF/60 (1.79) which makes Johnson a relatively safe option given his price tag across the industry (FanDuel & DraftKings - $7,600, FantasyDraft - $15,700).
