Charlie McAvoy Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Boston blue liner soaking up minutes
With Torey Krug injured, Charlie McAvoy is in a prime spot to flourish. McAvoy was already logging heavy minutes for Boston, but now he has the advantage of taking Torey Krug's spot on the top power play. With David Pastrnak back in the mix, Boston's power play should see their production skyrocket. A matchup with New Jersey tonight is one to exploit, even though they're on the road. McAvoy checks in at under $5,000 on both DraftKings and FanDuel which gives him appeal in all formats as Charlie has picked up six points over his last seven games.
Expected Low Ownership in Tough Matchup
Torey Krug gets more love from a fantasy perspective due to his power play exposure, but Charlie McAvoy has arguably been more productive lately and at a much cheaper price. McAvoy's ownership tonight should be low due to a tough matchup against the lead-leading Lightning, but I like his upside at a cheap price. He's seen at least 22 minutes in four consecutive games, and that should continue in what should be a close game.
Boston defenseman is an affordable option from the blue line
Though Charlie McAvoy will not be a feature on the team's top power play, as that role is reserved for Torey Krug, McAvoy put together a solid rookie season, recording 32 points (7 goals, 25 assists) in 63 games. McAvoy figures to see the most ice time of any Bruins' defensemen this season, and while a bulk of their production comes from the forwards, especially the elite top line, Charlie McAvoy is a fixture on a well-balanced second power play unit with two veterans in David Backes and David Krejci, as well as two youngsters Jake Debrusk and Ryan Donato. With a price of $4,500 on FanDuel and $4,600 on DraftKings, McAvoy is worth consideration, especially with Torey Krug on the shelf.
Value on the Boston blue-line
McAvoy scored his sixth goal of the season in Sunday's loss to the Buffalo Sabres and is quietly having a terrific rookie season for a blue-liner as he's on pace for a 41 point season. He's poised beyond his years when the pucks on his stick and his strong play has locked him into 20+ minutes of ice-time on a nightly basis. McAvoy has secured the reigns as the quarterback of Boston's second power-play unit and will face a Carolina team that has fallen on hard times lately, dropping each of their last five games. If you're digging at this price-range for a defenseman, you'll be hard pressed to find one with a steadier workload than McAvoy.
Attack the NHL's Worst Penalty Kill with this Value Defenseman
McAvoy still just seems far too underpriced given his offensive skillset. The 20-year-old has registered just one point in eight games this month, but 26 points in 53 games, he's still in the midst of a fine rookie season. He's averaging nearly 23 minutes per game for Bruce Cassidy this season and sees a healthy dose of playing time from the point of their second power-play unit where he should be salivating at the chance to face Edmonton's NHL worst (and absolutely terrible) penalty kill.
A below market asking price for this rookie defenseman
McAvoy has been eerily quiet lately, but his asking price on most sites has dipped to a level that's tough to ignore. The 20-year-old is still consistently logging 20+ minutes of ice-time per night for the Bruins and, with five goals and 20 assists through 50 games, is inconspicuously having a terrific rookie campaign. Tonight's matchup against the Calgary Flames is not particularly "good", but the team is without their starting net-minder Mike Smith and the Bruins are a ridiculous 19-2-3 since the middle of December. McAvoy also benefits from a healthy dose of playing time on the point of the second power-play unit and really doesn't need to do much tonight to reach/exceed value at this price-point.
Value Line Stack With Juicy Matchup
If you're looking for value tonight, consider taking the second line of Boston which features David Krejci, Ryan Spooner, and Jake DeBrusk. Fresh off a multipoint effort in last night's win over Montreal, Krejci and the second line draw a juicy matchup against a struggling Islanders defense that has allowed the most scoring chances in the league this year and has surrendered 4.33 goal against over their last nine games. Also seeing time on Boston's ninth ranked power play, look for Boston's second line to be very active on the man advantage tonight against an Islanders penalty kill that ranks 30th in the NHL this season.
Value Stack In Great Spot
If you're looking for value tonight, consider taking the second line of Boston which features David Krejci, Ryan Spooner, and Jake DeBrusk. Fresh off a multipoint effort in their last game at Ottawa, Krejci and the second line draw a juicy matchup against the league's worst defensive teams in the Islanders who have allowed the most scoring chances on tonight's slate. Also seeing time on Boston's ninth ranked power play, look for this trio to be very active on the man advantage tonight against an Islanders penalty kill that ranks 30th in the NHL this season.
A bargain in Beantown
I'm not sure what McAvoy needs to do to see a significant price bump across the industry, but for now, I'll enjoy the discount. After a very impressive showing in the NHL Playoffs last season, McAvoy has carried his success over to this season and now owns a goal and six assists in seven games. He logged over 25 minutes of ice-time against Buffalo over the weekend and has grabbed the reigns as the point man of Boston's dangerous #2 power-play unit. With five points in his last four games, ignoring this bargain could be dangerous.
Budding Boston blueliner takes to the road
Torey Krug is back for the Bruins, but McAvoy still saw almost 20 minutes of ice time once again last time out. In his first game of the new season, Charlie collected a goal and an assist. There is no denying the type of talent McAvoy possesses, and although the Bruins were blanked by this same Colorado Avalanche team on Monday, Charlie checks in as a nice value across the industry: $4,100 FanDuel, $4,400 DraftKings & $9,000 on FantasyDraft. Defense is a position that in general is lacking real depth tonight. Look for McAvoy to take a couple shots and perhaps find the scoresheet as Boston should drive the majority of play, even on the road against a Colorado Avalanche team that has been one of the worst puck possession teams in the National Hockey League the last several seasons.
