Chez Reavie Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Cheap Price Play

If you’re looking to go punting, you can certainly do worse than Reavie. He ranks at or above field average in every key statistic I am looking at, and he also checks in with a very affordable price tag on every DFS site. Reavie started the fall swing with a solid 3rd place finish at the Safeway Open last week, He closed 66-66 on the weekend, and he ranked first among players who made the cut in strokes gained from tee to green. He ranked third in strokes gained on approach. Those are the types of trends that you like to see from your value plays. He makes total sense as a punt play to round out your final roster spot.

Value Play Rounding into Form

Chez is rounding into form, finishing 46, 17, and 22 in his last three events. In each of the last two, he has gained strokes in every single category, which is a promising sign for a tournament that will require a versatile skillset. He has played in a number of WGC events in the past, including a 27th place finish in this tournament last year. Long term, he is a golfer that tends to excel on approach and around the greens. If he can continue to gain strokes with the putter like he has the past two events (1.6 strokes at the Workday, 2.2 strokes at the Memorial), I like his chance of putting up a solid performance and providing value to your lineup at a cheap price tag.

Billy Horschel officially parts ways with PXG

In somewhat of a surprise move Billy Horschel has parted ways with the club company PXG. News of this split first surfaced at last week's Honda Classic as Horschel was spotted wearing a Polo hat instead of his usual PXG hat. As a two time winner with PXG clubs in his bag, Horschel was easily one of the biggest names on staff for the company. Horschel confirmed via social that he is still playing PXG clubs for now as he remains a free agent. PXG also confirmed that newly signed player Chez Reavie has also parted ways with the company. Reavie had struggled to play well early this season. There is no news as of yet to what changes if any were made to Reavie's bag.

Chez Reavie to debut new equipment this week

Playing in only his second-ever Tournament of Champions, Chez Reavie will look to put new equipment in play this week. Coming off one of his best PGA Tour seasons to date the choice to make any changes is a bit of a surprise. Reavie had been a long time Taylor Made staffer, so the choice to move over to upstart PXG is not a change you would have expected to see. With the use of products like Trackman, club switches are a bit smoother for players in today's game, but it's worth noting that Reavie will debut a full bag of new clubs this week. After a slow start to the wraparound season, Reavie will look to use this limited field week to gain much needed FedEx Cup points.

Trending In The Right Direction

Chez Reavie has always been a streaky golfer, and he has put his underwhelming 2018 season in the rear view mirror at this point. He has made five of his last six cuts, and four of those have gone for top 20 finishes. That included an impressive T-3 at last week’s U.S. Open, and that should give him plenty of confidence moving forward. Reavie currently ranks 19th on Tour in par four scoring and 24th in strokes gained on approach, and this course fit is solid. When you combine that with his current form, Reavie makes for a fine mid-range GPP option this week.

Perfect Track for this Golfer

Reavie is a golfer that I hope gets overlooked this week. If you just look at the names priced around him, they are certainly more talented in terms of their long-term form. However, I can think of very few events that set up better for Reavie. His strengths are hitting fairways, dialing in approach shots, and making putts. He’s ranked fourth in this field in strokes gained approach, second in my proximity blend, and 31st in strokes gained putting on poa greens. He has two top four finishes in his last three events and is coming off of a second place finish at this event last season. He offers a high floor and a high ceiling, which puts him on my radar for both cash games and tournaments.

Trending Upward

Reavie is a player who might not be popular this week because the salary has risen to reflect his recent play, but he is absolutely deserving of that price bump. He ranks 7th on the PGA Tour in driving accuracy so far this season, and he also ranks 14th in ball striking. Reavie has made the cut in all eight events he has played this year, and two of the last three have resulted in top five finishes. He also finished in a tie for second here a year ago. If you want a great combination of current form, stats, and course fit, don’t overlook Reavie despite the elevated price tag.

The Chezticle

Reavie had not one, not two, but three holeouts from more than 100 yards out on Friday at the Sony Open. It was an amazing round of golf and he finished the week gaining eight strokes on his approaches. A slightly better putting week and he could have walked away with a win. We’ve seen this from Reavie in the past — when his tee to green game is on, he can string together strong finishes. He’s been close to a win a few times over the last calendar year, so perhaps this is the week that he can finally get the monkey off his back. He’s ranked seventh in this field in strokes gained on approaches and ninth in par four scoring. He doesn’t have any amazing finishes at this event, but has two top 20s here in the last three years.

What a Nickname -- The Chezsticle

Reavie burned me so many times in the second half of 2018. He was a regular feature of my picks article in the early part of the year and he strung together some incredible finishes. As the summer approached, he kept missing cuts right on the number. I hope that’s a thing of the past, as he’s made six straight cuts on tour with no finish worse than T43. Much like the other golfers in this week’s picks, his biggest strengths are iron play and putting. He clearly has an eye for the course, posting finishes of 18th, 8th, 42nd, and 26th over the last four years.

Fairways and Greens

Reavie is always on my radar on courses that don’t require distance off the tee. He’s one of the best in the field when it comes to driving accuracy, which will give him a big advantage over the field. There is a lot of trouble (water, jungle, etc.) if you miss these fairways and Reavie should be able to avoid most of it. He’s good with his irons, he makes a lot of birdies, and he made big strides with his putting last season. He’s made the cut at this event in all three of his appearances, highlighted by a T4 here in 2016.
