Ryan Raburn scratched Saturday; Chris Heisey replaces and will bat second
Raburn has officially been scratched from the Washington Nationals lineup for tonight's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks due to an unspecified reason. He'll be replaced in the lineup by Chris Heisey, who will take over the outfield duties and bat second. This lineup change will demote Wilmer Difo down to the eighth spot in the order from his original two-hole position, making him a much less appealing option. However, the remainder of the Nationals previously confirmed lineup does remain unchanged.
Washington RHBs look to expose Christian Friedrich's below average peripheral numbers against RHBs
Christian Friedrich is striking out righties 18% of the time, giving up a 36% fly ball percentage, and giving up hard and medium contact 83% of the time. Jayson Werth (wRC+ of 182 vs. LHP), Anthony Rendon (wRC+ of 131 vs. LHP), and Chris Heisey (wRC+ of 130 vs. LHP), are all in play and look to make Friedrich pay for allowing such hard contact.
Nationals face home run prone Miguel Gonzalez
Miguel Gonzalez has given up 4 HRs in his six starts this season and 28 home runs in his last 34 starts. The Nationals do have some power that can really make Gonzalez pay. Ben Revere is out of the lineup tonight and Chris Heisey will be the leadoff hitter. Heisey is cheap across the industry but does not have a ton of upside since he only has 11 hits in 58 plate appearances this season. Bryce Harper continues to be priced under $5K on DraftKings and has a .394 wOBA, 148 wRC+ against right-handed pitching this season. Daniel Murphy is the most expensive 2B on the slate and could be low-owned with a Coors game available tonight. Ryan Zimmerman (.427 wOBA, 171 wRC+ L14) is also a playable bat in the heart of the order against Miguel Gonzalez. Danny Espinosa leads the team in home runs over the last two weeks with six and is not too expensive at $3.1K on DK.
Bryce Harper out of the lineup for the second straight day
Bryce Harper will sit out again on Wednesday due to a knee contusion he suffered on Monday. Ben Revere is also out of the Nationals lineup, which provides Chris Heisey with an opportunity to lead off against LH Adam Morgan. The Phillies left-hander may be pitching to keep his rotation spot, as he's been dreadful to start 2016 and has had considerable trouble with right-handed bats; he's allowed a .369 wOBA to this point and owns a very weak 1.63 K/BB ratio which is nearly identical to his 1.57 HR/9 rate. He's also allowing a hard-hit percentage of 38.8 to RH bats, so it doesn't appear that he's going to turn a corner in the near future. Heisey is a suitable punt play in any format atop the Nats lineup, while Jayson Werth (.488 wOBA, .371 ISO, 51.6 hard% vs. LHs in 2016), Ryan Zimmerman (.309 wOBA, .242 ISO, 37.0 hard%) and Anthony Rendon (.387 wOBA, .152 ISO, 40.7 hard%) are all perfectly suitable GPP targets. The Nationals are one of the more sneaky GPP stacks of the day.
Jose Fernandez will face a Nationals lineup that is missing Jayson Werth, Ryan Zimmerman, and Wilson Ramos
The Nationals lineup includes Chris Heisey, Clint Robinson, and Jose Lobaton, playing on Saturday while Werth, Zimmerman, and Ramos get a day off. Surprisingly, since the beginning of last season, Robinson has a higher wRC+,123, than Zimmerman, 80, against right-handed pitching. Chris Heisey has a wRC+ of 123 over that same time period against right-handed pitchers, compared to Jayson Werth's wRC+ of 73. Perhaps the drop-off in the Nationals's lineup is less severe than it may appear at first glance, but Fernandez will still have the benefit of pitching to a few players that do not get everyday playing time.
Chris Heisey is the newest National to try out the leadoff spot
The Nationals have been trying out different players at the leadoff position and today it is Chris Heisey. Heisey will have Rendon, Harper, and Zimmerman batting behind him, so if he can get on base, he has a decent chance of scoring some runs. He has a 0.375 OBP this year, so he qualifies as a mid-range value play today facing off against Phil Hughes and his 0.309 wOBA versus right-handed batters.
Chris Heisey leading off for the Nationals; Zimmerman, M. Taylor, Ramos, Espinosa not in the lineup
Chris Heisey, who is priced at or near the minimum on all DFS outlets, will take over the leadoff spot with Michael Taylor out of the lineup. Taylor joins Ryan Zimmerman, Wilson Ramos and Danny Espinosa on the bench, with Clint Robinson, Stephen Drew and Jose Lobaton getting the chance to start. Despite the fact that it's best to pick on Charlie Morton with lefties, Heisey is a viable punt play in any format given his role this afternoon. Hitting in front of Rendon and Harper certainly helps elevate his ceiling. Harper is the top overall play at the OF position which is going to be the case plenty of times this year when he's facing an average-to-below-average righty. Morton's 37.3 hard% against LH bats plays perfectly into Harper's hands - the 23-year old finished 2015 with a .354 ISO and 39.7 hard%. Daniel Murphy is another elite option in any format, while Clint Robinson is a viable target in GPPs.
