Need a punt defenseman? Grab this Blackhawk
Cody Franson never really blossomed into the defenseman who showed a lot of promise with the Toronto Maple Leafs, but he has made the most of his opportunity with the Chicago Blackhawks. While he only has seven points in 18 games, he is averaging over two shots on goal per game, and potted his first goal of the season on December 2nd. Franson is getting run on the Blackhawks' top power play unit that should find success against a porous Buffalo defense that has struggled all season long. While his upside is relatively limited, grabbing an assist seems probable with his opportunity on the power play and top pairing with Duncan Keith.
Dirt-cheap exposure to Patrick Kane
If you're searching for value on the blue-line, Cody Franson should be on your radar. Franson has picked up three assists in just six games this season and has seen nearly 22 minutes of ice-time in each of the last two games. Chicago entered the season with plenty of question marks surrounding their blue-line, and this former Maple Leaf stepped in and played quite well. Franson has a pair of 30+ point seasons on his NHL resume and has even grabbed the reigns as the point-man on Chicago's top power-play unit (alongside Patrick Kane). With Philadelphia owning an ugly 76.9% penalty kill on the young season, he's a fine value option on the blue-line this evening.
