Cody Kessler Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Tom Brady (Toe/Right Elbow), Cody Kessler (Illness) Limited in Practice Thursday

Brady was limited Thursday but is not considered at risk of missing Sunday. This was likely more of a rest and recovery day for Brady.

Changes Mean Opportunity On This Team

The Jaguars will be rolling out an offense with some new (but vaguely familiar) faces in Week 13, with Carlos Hyde and T.J. Yeldon sitting in for the suspended Leonard Fournette, and Cody Kessler taking over from Blake Bortles at quarterback. Jacksonville gets a home game against Indianapolis this weekend, and the Colts give up the second-highest completion percentage to opposing QBs at 71.8%, as well as ranking 20th in the league in passing yards-per-game allowed, putting Kessler in some position for success. That could be good news for Wide Receivers like Dede Westbrook, who leads the team with 528 receiving yards and is tied for the team lead with 4 receiving touchdowns. Hyde and Yeldon are also worth a look as a backfield by committee at near-minimum price.

Cody Kessler to start at QB for the Jags on Sunday

Head Coach Doug Marrone announced the decision to bench QB Blake Bortles on Monday following the team's seventh straight loss where Bortles barely eclipsed the 100 yard passing mark for the second week in a row. The Jaguars also fired their offensive coordinator on Monday so the offense is guaranteed to look different to some extent with Kessler at the helm. The third-year QB started half a season for the Browns in 2016 and perhaps he'll get more opportunities than Bortles to air it out with QB coach Scott Milanovich as the new offensive play-caller. Kessler gets a home matchup with the Colts in Week 13 and is the bare minimum or close to it across sites, bringing him into tournament consideration.

Hue Jackson: Kevin Hogan (ribs) "in mix to start at QB"

Coach Hue Jackson won't name a starter for Week 8 yet after benching DeShone Kizer for Cody Kessler on Sunday. Hogan is dealing with bruised ribs but he could start under center this weekend against the Vikings. It looks like all three have a shot - Jackson said as much - and we may not find out more until the Browns practice on Wednesday. Minnesota has limited opposing QBs to the fifth-fewest fantasy points this season while holding them to the ninth-lowest rating (83.0) and picking off the eighth-most passes (7). Kizer, the league-leader in interceptions (11), threw two on Sunday and Kessler added another in relief. Hogan tossed three picks himself in his lone start this season and has been picked off at least once in every game he's attempted more than 10 passes. With one of the best pass-blocking tackles, Joe Thomas, out for the year, the starter will probably face more pressure than normal. The Vikings will likely be a popular DFS option no matter which guy the Browns put under center.

Robert Griffin III does not practice; in concussion protocol

RGIII is dealing with a concussion and has not practiced yet this week. If he can't play, the Browns will return to utilizing Cody Kessler as their starting QB. The Browns will be facing a non-motivated Steelers team and whichever QB is starting could be a sneaky GPP play due to this.

Robert Griffin will start for Browns in Week 16; will be replaced by Cody Kessler if "things don't go well"

Griffin hasn't played well as a Brown. Through three games he's yet to score a touchdown or throw for more than 196 yards. He also hurts the fantasy potential of Corey Coleman and Terrelle Pryor. Coach Hue Jackson said he'll start on Saturday, but he would replace him with Cody Kessler if Griffin struggles again, which seems likely. Griffin isn't a viable fantasy option, as there's a good chance he won't even get a full game against San Diego. Pryor, Coleman, and the rest of the Browns players aren't really options either as their offense continues to be abysmal. They haven't scored more than 13 points since October.

Cody Kessler cleared from concussion protocol

Cleveland was reportedly considering shutting Kessler down for the season after he suffered his second concussion, but he returned to practice today. It's not yet clear if he'll play in Week 14 (they're off this week) or if McCown will get the start. We'll learn more after their bye week.

Cody Kessler might be shut down due to 2nd concussion

The Browns might give their rookie QB some time off to recover from his second concussion as they are concerned about his future well being. Josh McCown would return to starting for Cleveland as they prepare to host the Giants.

Cody Kessler will start for Browns this week

This doesn't come as a surprise as the talk out of Cleveland all week would be that Kessler would get the start if he was healthy. Josh McCown returns to the bench and the Browns passing attack gets a slight downgrade going against the Cowboys. There is still some merit to Terrelle Pryor, Corey Coleman, and Gary Barnidge in GPP's due to a likely game script that will require the Browns to throw and a number of injuries in the Cowboys secondary.

Cody Kessler back at practice; expected to be starter if cleared

After suffering a concussion and missing last week's game the Browns rookie QB is back at practice and is expected to be the starter over Josh McCown if he doesn't suffer any setbacks. They face the Cowboys who are 22nd in pass DVOA and it would seem to be an apparent downgrade from McCown as the starter. Kessler has only topped 12.5 DraftKings fpts once in five games.
