Two points in return for young defenseman
Colin Miller returned to the Golden Knights' lineup Saturday night and picked up two assists. Though he is not on the team's first power play unit, he is on a capable second unit with Jonathan Marchessault and William Karlsson. Miller has 19 points (2G, 17A) in 37 games which is right on pace for his 41 points (10G, 31A) in 82 games last season. At $3,500 on DraftKings and FanDuel, Miller is a nice route to go cheap on the blue line.
Stanley Cup rematch provides strong value on defense
Colin Miller has been seeing a lot of run on the power play, the most of any defenseman on Vegas in fact. Last time out, Miller logged four-plus minutes with the man-advantage, and while he did not find the scoresheet, he should like his chances tonight against a Washington team that blew a 5-1 lead to a timid Ducks' offense last time out. Of course, the Capitals have had the Golden Knights number, including a 5-2 win back in October. However, Vegas is starting to come together with five wins in their last six games. Miller flashed his multi-point upside several times last month, and he is especially cheap on DraftKings ($3,600) where he makes for a fine option in all formats given his role and skill set.
Cheap route from the blue line to gain exposure to Sin City's team
Colin Miller sports a stellar 56.70 CF% at 5-on-5 along with a team-leading 76 high-danger chances when he is on the ice. Miller has recently been bumped to the top power play unit as well, and while he has not really flashed the big upside we look for yet, he does have three assists in his last three contests. Vegas checks in as a strong favorite tonight and Miller makes for a nice target in tournaments, especially as part of a Vegas power play stack with superstar Jonathan Marchessault who is one of the top plays of the evening.
Vegas blue liner draws mouth-watering matchup
After posting a strong 41 point (10G, 31A) 2017-18 season with the Vegas Golden Knights, Colin Miller has struggled out of the gate, mustering just two assists in 15 contests. As a whole, Vegas has been a bit unlucky (.951 PDO at 5-on-5 is a league-low) to start this season and things should start bouncing their way. Miller has logged 21:50 of ice time per game compared to his 19:21 logged last season which leads to more opportunity. As a fixture on the team's second power play unit, Miller (DraftKings - $4,000 & FanDuel - $4,200) should like his chances against an Ottawa team which has allowed the most goals per game (4.13 GA/G) in the National Hockey League.
Suspension opens door for Vegas blue liner
Much like the rest of his team, Colin Miller made great strides last season, collecting 41 points in 82 games including 10 goals. With the performance-enhanced Nate Schmidt suspended, Colin Miller figures to see the most power play time of any Vegas blue liner. While regression is to be expected for Vegas as a whole, the team developed a lot of chemistry in their memorable inaugural season. Colin Miller posted a team-best 55.63 CF% and was the team's best defenseman, averaging 1.51 points per 60 minutes. There is a lot of optimism in the Philadelphia camp this season, but as is always the case with the Flyers, goaltending will be an issue. Colin Miller will undoubtedly have an opportunity to produce on the Golden Knights' loaded top power play unit with new addition Max Pacioretty. At $4,700 on FanDuel and $4,400 on DraftKings, Miller is a great way to gain Vegas exposure in all formats.
Instant Chemistry For This Veteran Trio
If you're looking to differentiate your lineup without fading the league's biggest surprise in a great spot, consider the second line of Vegas which features veterans David Perron, Erik Haula, and the newly acquired Tomas Tatar. They draw a fantastic matchup against a hapless Vancouver team that has allowed the most scoring chances over their past 25 road games. Also featured on a red hot power play for Vegas, this trio should have no problems paying off their manageable salaries tonight against a Vancouver penalty kill that ranks 25th in the NHL this season.
Great Matchup For This Line
If you're looking to differentiate your lineup without fading the league's hottest team in a great spot, consider the second line of Vegas which features veterans James Neal, David Perron, and Erik Haula. With a combined 28 points over their last 10 games, this trio has found instant chemistry for the upstart Golden Knights. They draw a juicy matchup against one of the league's worst defensive team in Edmonton, who own the third worst adjusted xGA/60 over their past 15 games. Also featured on a red hot power play for Vegas, this trio should be very active on the man advantage tonight against an Edmonton penalty kill that ranks dead last in the NHL this season.
Offensive Blue Line Options
The Edmonton Oilers poor defensive play, subpar goaltending and atrocious penalty kill (dead-last overall in the National Hockey League on the penalty kill) has me targeting the three-headed monster (Shea Theodore, Colin Miller and Brad Hunt) in Vegas tonight. All three of the Golden Knights defensemen are reasonably priced industry wide, and they all receive ample time on the power play, which is key tonight, because the Oilers just cant stop the bleeding when short-handed. Shea Theodore is the top option overall, and he also skates on the Golden Knights top power play, while Colin Miller and Brad Hunt share power play quarterback duties on the second unit, and with Hunts inexpensive price tag across the board, he may be the best bang for your buck on defense this evening.
Top point-per-dollar play on defense
I am heading back to the Sin City, where the Vegas Golden Knights have three solid options available on the blue line. The New York Islanders are not only a terrible defensive team (28th overall in CA/60, 30th in HDCA/60 and 31st in SCA/60), they have also been taking too many penalties for their own good lately, and that is not a good idea when you struggle to kill off those penalties (ranked 30th overall in the National Hockey League on the penalty kill). The Golden Knights have three defensemen (Shea Theodore, Colin Miller and Brad Hunt) sharing time on the power play, and all three of them are playable tonight in any format. In cash games, Theodore is my top option, with Hunt possibly being the top point-per-dollar play on defense this evening. For GPPs, you will want to pair up Theodore with the Golden Knights top line, while adding either Miller or Hunt to the second line.
Look For This Line To Stay Hot Tonight
If you're looking to differentiate your lineup without fading the league's hottest team in a great spot, consider the second line of Vegas which features veterans James Neal, David Perron, and Erik Haula. With a combined 25 points over their last 10 games, this trio has found instant chemistry for Vegas this year. They draw a juicy matchup against the league's worst defensive team in the Islanders, who have allowed the second most shot attempts, the second most scoring chances, and own the league's worst adjusted xGA/60 since December 1st. Also featured on the top power play for Vegas, this trio should be very active on the man advantage tonight against an Islanders penalty kill that ranks 30th in the NHL this season.
