Injury to Alex Pietrangelo creates opportunity for Blues' blue liner

Colton Parayko is perhaps the most talented of the healthy Blues' defensemen, and with Alex Pietrangelo on the shelf, Colton should be the one to benefit from power play time. Vince Dunn, an offensive-minded defenseman, has been seeing time on the top power play unit, and his ice time tops out at around 20 minutes, so there shouldn't be much change there. Parayko has flashed considerable upside from time to time, including a goal on five shots just two games ago in Colorado. Parayko's price across the industry is not prohibitive.

Could This Superstar Go Overlooked Tonight?

If you're looking to differentiate your lineup in tournaments tonight, consider taking the top line of the Blues, which features Brayden Schenn, Vladimir Tarasenko, and Vladimir Sobotka. This trio has found instant chemistry this season, entering tonight's game generating among the most scoring chances in the league this season. A matchup on the road against a potent Edmonton team may seem daunting, but the Oilers have suffered from poor defensive play in their own zone throughout much of this season and has struggled in the penalty kill department. In a game that may go overlooked due to a difficult perceived matchup, look for the Blues to keep rolling and easily pay off their steep price tags.

Playing Power Play Point for Parayko?

This is dependent on Alex Pietrangelo sitting out again. Assuming he sits, Parayko will enter an uneven timeshare for power play quarterback duties with Vince Dunn, with Parayko on the plus side. The Jets remain one of the worst teams in the league at not only avoiding penalties, but keeping shot attempts, scoring chances, and high-danger shot attempts down once shorthanded. Though the first game of the home-and-home was a low scoring affair, it should have been much higher. We should see more goals tonight and Parayko -- sans Pietrangelo -- figures to be involved in the fun.

Cheap Blues' defenseman could pay off big

Colton Parayko may be priced up slightly on FanDuel ($5,000), but on DraftKings ($4,400) and FantasyDraft ($9,800), he checks in as one of the best bargains on defense. If you are playing on FantasyDraft, one of your D/UTIL spots should belong to Zach Werenski who is just $9,900 on that site. With Kevin Shattenkirk long gone from the Blues, Parayko has seen an increased offensive role. While he only has three points in nine games, Colton has taken five shots on goal in two of his last four contests. With many looking to Alex Pietrangelo, the most expensive defenseman on the slate, Parayko offers a viable alternative.

A top-tier matchup for an under-priced blue-liner

The Vegas Golden Knights have been a fun story to start the 2017-18 season, but not only do I not believe that their hot start is sustainable, but I'm also not convinced their front office even wants to see them keep winning games. The St. Louis Blues will head to Sin City tonight squeeking out an ugly win in Colorado on Thursday night. Parakyo is locked into 20+ minutes for Mike Yeo and sees a heavy workload of playing time with the team's second power-play unit. He racked up 35 points last season and could easily push 40+ points this time around, meaning we should take advantage of his modest price-tag while it still lasts.
