Cardinals Place D.J. Foster (Hamstring) on Injured Reserve

Foster was placed on the IR Monday, a move made to clear room for newly acquired RB Kenyan Drake.

David Johnson (Ankle), D.J. Foster (Hamstring) Do Not Practice Thursday

Johnson and Foster both missed their second straight practice on Thursday. It appears the Cardinals might be down to Chase Edmonds as their main option, with newly signed RB's Zach Zenner and Alfred Morris backing him up.

David Johnson (Ankle), D.J. Foster (Hamstring) Do Not Practice Wednesday

There is a chance Arizona is without two RB's this week. They are clearly preparing for that situation, as they signed running backs Alfred Morris and Zach Zenner. Those two players would backup Chase Edmonds, if Johnson is out.

Adrian Peterson inactive Week 13

Kerwynn Williams is expected to start with D.J. Foster working in on passing downs. However, Williams is dealing with an injury to his ribs he suffered last week. It's possible he can't handle a full workload or leaves the game early. Bruce Arians also praised Foster, adding carries "could easily fall into his lap quickly." It's an uncertain situation but Foster appears to have the better outlook among the two and he's got a nice matchup with the Rams, whose defense is giving up the second-most PPR points to RBs this season.

Adrian Peterson isn't expected to play Week 13

Both the offensive coordinator and head coach had different opinions during the week but apparently Peterson's neck injury hasn't progressed as well as they thought it would by now. Jay Glazer reports Peterson isn't expected to play Sunday. Kerwynn Williams is expected to start with D.J. Foster working in on passing downs. Cardinals "pessimistic" Peterson can play Week 13, remains a game-time decision

Both the offensive coordinator and head coach had different opinions during the week but apparently, Peterson's neck injury hasn't progressed as well as they thought it would by now. Adam Schefter reports Peterson will be a game-time decision Sunday. If he can't go, Kerwynn Williams will start with D.J. Foster working in on passing downs. Adrian Peterson expected to play Week 13

Peterson has been sidelined this week with a neck injury but offensive coordinator Harold Goodwin full expects Peterson to suit up on Sunday. He'll maintain his featured role in their backfield against the Rams. Last time these two teams faced, LA blew the Cardinals out 33-0 and Peterson only touched the ball 12 times. Vegas seems to think it could get out of hand again as the Rams are 7-point road favorites and the Cardinals have the fifth-lowest implied total on the board (18.75). Peterson posted a pair of nice games since joining the team but he's also returned 1.9 yards per carry or fewer in three of his six appearances with Arizona and he's averaging 3.5 ypc overall with the team.

Adrian Peterson isn't practicing Thursday

It's the second straight absence for Peterson, who's dealing with a neck injury. Yesterday, head coach Bruce Arians said he has "no clue" what his backfield will look like this weekend. If Peterson sits, it could put Kerwynn Williams in the early-down role while D.J. Foster takes over on passing downs. We should learn more about Peterson and what the Cardinals plan to do if he sits over the next couple of days.

Cardinals expected to use three-man committee at running back

Beat writer Mike Jurecki believes Arizona will use all three backs - Kerwynn Williams, Andre Ellington, and newly-signed D.J. Foster - to replace the injured David Johnson (wrist). Williams will likely earn the start and share early-down duties with Foster while Ellington operates as the passing down back. With a timeshare like this, it'll be hard to trust any of them to make a huge fantasy impact. Although we only have a one game sample, the Colts rush defense was able to stuff Todd Gurley and the Rams on the ground, limiting them to 1.9 yards per carry as a team. At the same time, Arizona struggled to run against the Lions, averaging 2.5 yards per carry, even with David Johnson handling 11 of their 18 carries. Of course, the Colts pass defense was atrocious, permitting Jared Goff to rack up 306 yards and a touchdown with a 72.4% completion percentage. Palmer may have to air it out to move the ball and he should be successful doing so. The receivers will pick up some of Johnson's targets; he had nine in Week 1 and averaged 7.5 in 2016.
