Dae-Ho Lee Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Derek Holland has a 5.1% K-BB% and 5.65 xFIP versus RHB

The Mariners have actually been swinging the bats very well of late. They also draw a plus matchup against Derek Holland tonight, as he owns a meager 14.3% strikeout rate on the season accompanied by a 30.4% hard hit rate, a 5.18 SIERA, and a 5.27 xFIP. He is a left-handed pitcher with traditional splits, as right-handed batters have a .333 wOBA and a 32.9% hard hit rate against him, compared to a .241 wOBA and an 18.0% hard hit rate for left-handed batters. Obviously, we will want to target Seattle right-handed batters here, but hat does eliminate a few of their better hitters. Nelson Cruz (157 wRC+, .400 wOBA, .312 ISO vs LHP), Franklin Gutierrez (151 wRC+, .392 wOBA, .251 ISO vs LHP), and Dae-Ho Lee (.175 ISO vs LHP) are firmly in play, Guillermo Heredia has been leading off against left-handed pitching of late, and tonight is no different. A Mariners stack of the righties is definitely a strategy to consider for tournaments.

Daniel Norris could struggle with Mariners power RHB

Norris (3.36 SIERA) is a young left-handed pitcher that carries some prospect pedigree as he was traded to Detroit last summer as the centerpiece of the package that shipped David Price off to the Blue Jays. Norris has flashed some upside in his limited starts this season, but the sample size is still way too small to put any serious merit into his season-long advanced stats. He has pitched 58 career innings against right-handed batters and has been less than impressive, posting a 4.64 xFIP, 18.2% strikeout rate, and 44.1% fly ball rate. Enter Nelson Cruz. Cruz has hit a home run every 11.2 at bats against left-handed pitching over the past two seasons and sports a hefty .408 wOBA and .338 ISO this season. Whenever Nelson Cruz is in consideration against a lefty, so is Franklin Gutierrez (154 wRC+, .393 wOBA, .254 ISO), whose numbers are nearly as good and is always significantly less expensive on all sites. Dae-Ho Lee (.212 ISO) hasn’t exactly smashed left-handed pitching this season but definitely has flashed some power upside, putting him in play as a viable option for Seattle stacks.

SEA Lineup Clarification: Adam Lind will start at 1B and bat 6th, Dae-Ho Lee is not in the lineup

There were conflicting reports around lineup lock as to whether Lind or Lee would be the starting 1B, and while Lee was originally reported as the starter, it'll in fact be Lind manning first and batting sixth.

Duffy has allowed 10 HRs to RHBs in last eight starts and Nelson Cruz has mashed LHP (195 wRC+, .420 ISO)

Danny Duffy was thought to be a five inning pitcher until striking out 16 over 16.2 innings in his last two starts without a walk. The issue we have here is that it's not something we can absolutely count on going forward and his price is now in the $9K range, which is fine for a guy with a 28.9 K% (14.8 SwStr%) in a home park that's great for fly ball pitchers (0.75 GB/FB), but he'd previously only gone more than six innings just once this year and only by a single out. He also has a matchup against an offense with a 17.8 HR/FB vs LHP in what's considered one of the worst parks for RH power in baseball. Duffy has allowed 10 HRs over his last eight starts, all of them to RHBs and seven of them at home. While Duffy is certainly playable with that enormous strikeout rate, strong consideration has to go to Nelson Cruz (195 wRC+, .420 ISO vs LHP this season), who might even be tonight's top OF bat against a HR prone lefty, and Franklin Gutierrez (156 wRC+, .277 ISO vs LHP since 2015). Dae-Ho Lee has shown good power against LHP as well (122 wRC+, .226 ISO).

RHBs have a .337 wOBA and 36.7 Hard% vs reverse split Fiers since 2015

Mike Fiers has been a lot of changing and unpredictable things throughout his career, but one thing that has been pretty stable is a reverse platoon split the last two years (RHBs - .337 wOBA & 36.7 Hard%, LHBs - .295 wOBA, 32.5 Hard%). While the Astros understand this and are utilizing a lot of LHBs against a similar LHP on the other side of this matchup, the Mariners are sticking with tradition and have just three RHBs in this lineup. This makes Nelson Cruz (133 wRC+, .226 ISO vs RHP since 2015) one of tonight's top OF bats (160 wRC+, 55.6 Hard% last seven days) and Dae-Ho Lee (134 wRC+, .205 ISO vs RHP) an interesting value at First Base, but the remainder of the Seattle lineup lacks a bit in this spot. Red hot Kyle Seager (169 wRC+, .286 ISO vs RHP, 236 wRC+, 55 Hard% over the last week) still looks good for just $3.2K on FanDuel though.

Dallas Keuchel had an elite 59.8 GB% and strong 16.8 K-BB% in June

Dallas Keuchel had an elite 59.8 GB% and strong 16.8 K-BB% in June. He continues to have an ERA above his estimators because it's been difficult to turn a lot of those ground balls into outs (.326 BABIP) or strand enough runners (67.0 LOB%). Part of that is his defense (.309 BABIP) as he has a league average 30.9 Hard% and a decent 20.1 LD% this season. He threw one of his best games of the season at home against this Seattle offense (7 IP - 2 R - 8 K) and is certainly a high risk play, but could be poised to do so again with a little more BABIP and LOB% regression. With so many ground balls, it's difficult to recommend a lot of Seattle bats, but he has allowed 12 HRs to RHBs this season. Nelson Cruz (196 wRC+, .346 ISO vs LHP since 2015) is the obvious choice. He has two HRs in 24 career PAs against Keuchel. Franklin Gutierrez (160 wRC+, .281 ISO vs LHP) runs the risk of being PH hit for, but mitigates that a bit batting 2nd and costing just $3.5K or less. Dae-Ho Lee (124 wRC+, .235 ISO vs LHP) has also shown good power.

Cano has a 175 wRC+, .427 wOBA, .302 ISO versus RHP this season

Cano has crushed RHP this year and hasn't allowed Safeco Field to contain his home run power. He gets a great matchup tonight as Tyler Wilson is set to start for the Orioles. Wilson (4.99 SIERA, 6.6% K-BB%) has not pitched particularly well this season. Wilson surrenders a lot of contact and doesn't miss many bats as he only has a 6.7% SwStr%. The Mariners offense is a great spot to target batters on the night slate and may even go a little overlooked. Outside of Cano, Kyle Seager (165 wRC+, .413 wOBA, .285 ISO vs RHP) and Dae-Ho Lee (142 wRC+, .379 wOBA, .227 ISO vs RHP) are must plays in any Seattle stack given their power upside. Nelson Cruz (126 wRC+, .355 wOBA, .187 ISO) hits LHP much better than RHP but is still in consideration due to his ability to hit a bomb off anyone at anytime.

Chris Tillman has a 43.0% FB% versus LHBs, allowing .341 WOBA

Tillman has struggled in his last two starts, allowing 10 ER in 10.0 IP. Tillman is an extreme fly ball pitcher, especially against lefties, and takes on the powerful Mariners lineup tonight. The Mariners are only implied to score 3.9 runs tonight, which is a little concerning. While a full Mariners stack may not be optimal, targeting a couple Mariner power bats could be an interesting strategy. Robinson Cano (180 wRC+, .436 wOBA, .313 ISO) has absolutely crushed RHP this season making him the top target in the Mariners lineup. We should look to pair him with Kyle Seager (161 wRC+, .407 wOBA, .277 ISO vs RHP) and/or Dae-Ho Lee (123 wRC+, .351 wOBA, .194 ISO vs RHP) as they both have decent power potential.

Mariners sneakily implied to score 4.9 runs, total has increased 0.5 runs

Jon Niese is a league average LHP that struggles against right handed batters (5.6% K-BB%, .386 wOBA). The Mariners have surprisingly been one of the best offenses in baseball and among the leaders in HR all season. The Mariners could be one of the best under the radar spots to look for offense tonight. This means the elite target in the Mariners offense is our favorite lefty masher Nelson Cruz (182 wRC+, .437 wOBA, .376 ISO vs LHP). Chris Iannetta (144 wRC+, .382 wOBA, .169 ISO vs LHP), Dae-Ho Lee (120 wRC+, .347 wOBA, .241 ISO vs LHP), and Franklin Gutierrez (162 wRC+, .407 wOBA, .275 ISO vs LHP) are the best options to consider if needing to build a Mariners stack around Cruz. Note that Gutierrez gets pinch hit for frequently as soon as a RHP enters the game.

Nelson Cruz OUT against Michael Fulmer in Detroit

Michael Fulmer is having a fine rookie season, but his 2.43 ERA is well below his 4.04 SIERA and 3.97 xFIP and there are some indicators he's begun to regress in recent starts with a total of 13 strikeouts and 10 walks over his last three. An unsustainable 86.5 LOB% has kept runs off the board though. He's a dangerous pay up against the 3rd best offense vs RHP this season (116 wRC+, 15.8 HR/FB, 15.1 Hard-Soft%), though it gets a bit better without Nelson Cruz tonight. Seattle bats are a bit interesting on at reduced prices on DraftKings with only Cano (189 wRC+, .337 ISO vs RHP this season) and Seager (163 wRC+, .280 ISO vs RHP this season) above $3.3K and nobody more expensive than $4.1K. Prices are not reduced on FanDuel, where Dae-Ho Lee (154 wRC+, .250 ISO vs RHP) for $2.5K in the cleanup spot may be the only real value here.
