Vander Esch is currently on the more doubtful side of his questionable tag and is not expected to suit up on Monday night.
Sean Lee returns after multi week absence
The often injured Sean Lee returns to play after missing multiple weeks with a hamstring injury. Lee will join rookie Leighton Vander Esch on what has been a very strong defensive unit this season. The addition of Lee to this defense is a good problem to have for The Cowboys as both players have shown they can impact the game on the defensive side of the ball.
Zack Martin will miss today's game
Pro- Bowl offensive lineman Zack Martin will miss today's game. This is the first time in Martin's football career that he has missed a game. Arguably one of the best offensive linemen in today's game this is a big blow for a Cowboy's offense that likes to run the ball early and often. With a playoff spot all but locked up, it's not a big surprise to see the Cowboys take a conservative approach with Martin's injury. Martin will be replaced in the starting lineup by Connor Williams.
Smash Spot For A Defense?
With their quarterback out for the year and a quick turnaround against a good defense, the Redskins have a meager implied team total of just 17 points on Thanksgiving. Even though they are a first place team, you might be able to get away with fading the Redskins entirely on a three game slate, especially when you consider the slow pace that Dallas likes to play at. Assuming Dallas can get a lead in this game, that will also open up the opportunity for the defense to make plays late against a fill-in quarterback. I will definitely have tons of exposure to the Dallas D on Thursday.
Cheap Defense Faces One of The League's Worst Offensive Lines
Through the first two weeks of the season, Russell Wilson’s leaky offensive line has allowed the most sacks in the league and has given up the second-most QB Hits. Meanwhile the Dallas Cowboys defense has been surprisingly effective and aggressive, racking up 9 sacks and allowing the fourth-fewest yards per game. Yet for some reason, DFS sites have priced down the Dallas defense as one of the cheapest units available this week at only $3400 on FanDuel, $2200 on DraftKings, and $3900 on FantasyDraft. It’s true that Dallas is a slight underdog on the road in Seattle this week which limits their appeal somewhat, but if I’m going to take a road defense, give me one that’s dirt cheap and capable of posting a big score.
Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliot, and Cowboys starters not expected to rest Sunday
The Dallas Cowboys are without regular starters like left tackle Tyron Smith and Cole Beasley due to their respective injuries, but they are expected to play their other regular starters for today's game against the Philadelphia Eagles, including Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott, making them extremely interesting tournament targets with the Eagles likely to pull their defensive starters after a few series. Normally, this would be a tough matchup against the Eagles second-ranked defense in overall DVOA but with the starters expected to only play a portion of the game, the matchup becomes much easier than on-paper stats suggest for this Cowboys offense.
Cowboys CB Orlando Scandrick (back) and DL David Irving (concussion) officially ruled out for Sunday
Scandrick has been downgraded to out on the Dallas Cowboys' injury report for tomorrow's game against the New York Giants due to a back injury, while David Irving has also been ruled out with a concussion. The absence of Scandrick is nothing but good news for Sterling Shepard, who will have the benefit of facing off with the Cowboys' 26th-ranked defense in overall DVOA. Not only that but in the two games started by Eli Manning, when Shepard was active, following the decimation of the Giants receiving corps, he's averaged 11 targets per game, putting him firmly in play for all formats at a depressed price tag across the industry.
Tyron Smith questionable for Sunday
The Cowboys could be without Pro Bowl left tackle Tyron Smith and Rt Lav'el Collins for Sunday's game with the Giants. An offense already missing superstar Ezekiel Elliot has really struggled to find it's rhythm when Tyron Smith has also missed. The Cowboys suffered a season-high 8 sacks to the Falcons in a game where Smith missed earlier this season. The Cowboys did receive good news on the defensive side of the ball as all-pro linebacker Sean Lee appears on track to play this Sunday. Lee has not played since week 10 and has clearly been missed by a defensive unit that has struggled to stop teams on a consistent basis.
