Daniel Gossett Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Angels could blast a pitcher who misses few bats and allows too much hard contact (8% Barrels/BBE last year)

The Angels have a 4.81 implied run line that's more middle than top of a 12 team board, but they may the lineup to attack with tonight. Oakland starter Daniel Gossett does not miss many bats and allows hard contact. He didn’t strike out a single one of the 18 Angels he faced first time out. There’s no reason to project for tonight to go that much differently. He had no actual platoon split with a wOBA right around .380 against him for batters from either side last year, though it was actually RHBs that fared better by xwOBA (.384) and hard hit rate (36.4%). Mike Trout (186 wRC+, .350 ISO vs RHP since last season) might be a hard fit at $4.8K or higher on either site, but only two other bats are even above $4K on DraftKings. Shohei Ohtani's cost ($3.9K DK/$3.4K FD) is rising fast after a great start with the bat. Zack Cozart (135 wRC+, .249 ISO) and Justin Upton (118 wRC+, .231 ISO) are those two remaining more expensive bats. Luis Valbuena (102 wRC+, .247 ISO) is the value bat here.

Cheap Dodger, Mariner bats can pave a path to Coors bats with quality pitching

Players who are looking to pay up for Coors bats and afford one of the better pitchers on the board have to be thrilled that the Dodgers are facing a poor left-handed pitcher. Travis Wood has allowed 14 HRs in 10 starts for the Padres, having really only pitched once in an extremely power friendly environment (Cincinnati). RHBs have a .385 wOBA with 13 of those HRs (32.4 Hard%). Wood's opposition to the Dodgers generally means that players can lock in Austin Barnes (130 wRC+, .248 ISO vs LHP) and Kike Hernandez (143 wRC+, .317 ISO vs LHP) into their lineups at Catcher and Shortstop. While Barnes is up to $3.6K on DraftKings, Hernandez still costs less than $3K and both players are within $300 of the minimum on FanDuel. If looking for additional savings, Logan Forsythe (134 wRC+, .138 ISO vs LHP) can be had for $3K or less on either site as well. DraftKings players can also find incredible value in many Seattle bats in Oakland. While they are facing Daniel Gossett (5.38 ERA/4.65 SIERA/5.96 DRA), Mariner bats are priced like they're facing Corey Kluber. Mitch Haniger (129 wRC+, 192 ISO vs RHP) is the most expensive Mariner on DK at just $3.4K.

LHBs have a .359 wOBA against Daniel Gossett, but with a 58.1 GB% and 22.7% hard hit rate

RotoGrinders has a very informative Trendspotting article available to premium subscribers each day, which takes a look at batters hitting the ball hard the pitchers who allow the hardest contact in the air on the slate. This can not only be used to find batters to target each day, but also non-obvious pitchers to avoid. While the top three pitchers on the board tonight (Dallas Keuchel, Jake Arrieta, Zack Godley) are all excellent contact managers, who nobody is targeting with bats anyway, a less obvious pitcher players might want to avoid is Daniel Gossett or at least from the LH side. He has an ERA and FIP over five with just a 15.6 K% and batters from either side have a .359 wOBA against him. However, RHBs have a 39.1 GB% and 35.5 Hard%, while LHBs have been held on the ground 58.1% of the time on batted balls with a 22.7 Hard%. Their results are based on a .356 BABIP we can find no basis for. It's still a small sample size with just 47 major league innings for sure and few players were probably targeting Giants in Oakland anyway, but just because a pitcher is a daily fantasy asset doesn't mean you should automatically stack up against him either.
