Cheap Red Wing blue liner seeks big game
Dennis had a nice start to the season, but since October he has been underwhelming. Nonetheless, his price across the industry is attractive as a punt option in tournaments. Detroit is nothing to write home about, but any time you can get Antti Niemi in net on the other end, anyone is in play. Montreal smoked Detroit 7-3 back in October, and it's certain the Red Wings haven't forgotten about it. Detroit has had a tough schedule lately but were able to end their losing streak with a win over Nashville, and this is their best spot in a while so grabbing some cheap Detroit guys to round out rosters could pay dividends. Cholowski is just one approach.
Young Defenseman Seizing Opportunity
Due to a number of injuries on the blue line, Dennis Cholowski has been thrust into a prominent role for the Red Wings. He has responded admirably with five points in seven games. Cholowski has been seeing all the ice time he can handle, including time on the number one power play unit. The matchup tonight against the visiting Jets isn't ideal, but Winnipeg hasn't been as sound defensively as expected this year, allowing 2.8 goals per game.
Detroit defenseman looks to build on strong performance in Boston
Filip Hronek has had a nice start to the season and has seen an uptick in minutes even with the return of Niklas Kronwall. Hronek took six shots on goal in a tough road matchup against the Boston Bruins last time out and even potted his first goal in the National Hockey League. The game before that, he found an assist. While Detroit figures to be one of the worst teams in the league this season, the goalie on the other end, Antti Niemi, has been one of the worst netminders for several years running. Hronek costs next to nothing (DraftKings and FanDuel - $3,500) and really opens things up elsewhere, in the same vein that fellow blue liner Dennis Cholowski (probable) does as Danny DeKeyser was injured in their last game and will not suit up tonight.
