DeShone Kizer Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Aaron Rodgers took part in practice Saturday morning, but still listed as questionable

Silverstein also reported there is no guarantee Rodgers plays on Sunday and he'll be evaluated tomorrow morning to see how his injured knee responds. Rodgers hasn't managed to practice all week, though he and head coach Mike McCarthy agreed the quarterback didn't need to participate during the week in order to play on Sunday. If DeShone Kizer is forced into action, all Green Bay pass catchers would be downgraded against a tough Minnesota defense.

This Quarterback Could Blow Up Week 14

Who wants to play DeShone Kizer? Really, who? After the narratives surrounding both Kizer and the Browns this year, ownership should be low in this spot - but look at the matchups Kizer has had this year with Corey Coleman on the field (Steelers, Ravens, Jaguars, Bengals, Chargers; all five teams are in the top 12 in "fewest WR receptions allowed" and "fewest fantasy points allowed per game to QBs" - and four of those teams rank in the top seven in "fewest fantasy points allowed per game to QBs"). When Kizer did not have Coleman, his "receivers" were Kenny Britt, Ricardo Louis, and Rashard Higgins. This week, Kizer has a much better matchup (see NFL Edge), and he has both Coleman and Josh Gordon. This is a potential blowup spot for Kizer, making him one of my absolute favorite tourney plays on the slate.

DeShone Kizer will start Week 8

The Browns have decided to give Kizer, the league-leader in interceptions (11), another shot after benching him in Week 7. He'll have a tough spot against Minnesota, whose defense has limited opposing QBs to the fifth-fewest fantasy points, the eighth-lowest rating (83.0), and has picked off the eighth-most passes (7). With one of the best pass-blocking tackles, Joe Thomas, out for the year, Kizer will probably face more pressure than normal and the Vikings are eighth in adjusted sack rate (per FO). The rookie QB has struggled to release the ball in a timely manner, averaging the third-longest time to throw (3.07, per PFF) and the longest time to sack (4.25) by a wide margin. Minnesota's D/ST will likely be a popular option this week and rightfully so.

Hue Jackson: Kevin Hogan (ribs) "in mix to start at QB"

Coach Hue Jackson won't name a starter for Week 8 yet after benching DeShone Kizer for Cody Kessler on Sunday. Hogan is dealing with bruised ribs but he could start under center this weekend against the Vikings. It looks like all three have a shot - Jackson said as much - and we may not find out more until the Browns practice on Wednesday. Minnesota has limited opposing QBs to the fifth-fewest fantasy points this season while holding them to the ninth-lowest rating (83.0) and picking off the eighth-most passes (7). Kizer, the league-leader in interceptions (11), threw two on Sunday and Kessler added another in relief. Hogan tossed three picks himself in his lone start this season and has been picked off at least once in every game he's attempted more than 10 passes. With one of the best pass-blocking tackles, Joe Thomas, out for the year, the starter will probably face more pressure than normal. The Vikings will likely be a popular DFS option no matter which guy the Browns put under center.

Like Journey Once Said, "Don't Stop Believing"

The Browns quarterback duo of DeShone Kizer and Kevin Hogan has been less than impressive. The two have played so poorly that they keep getting benched for one another. After Hogan looked downright lost against the Texans, the Browns will give Kizer another crack at the starting gig. We know that Kizer isn't the most accurate passer, but he can make plays with his legs and he loves to take shots downfield (third-highest deep ball rate in the NFL). The Titans aren't particularly good against the run, but really struggle against the pass (25th in DVOA). Kizer is playing at home, he had another week to study film, and he'll likely be playing from behind. This might be the last chance I give the Browns' quarterbacks this season, so don't let me down Kizer.

Don't Give Up Just Yet on this QB

Recently re-named the starting QB, Kizer is in a great spot Week 7. The matchup can not get any better and the ownership should be low after last week's performance by the Browns. Kizer has the ability to run, which gives him a higher ceiling than many at the position. Tennessee ranks 24th against the QB position, but they are much worse than that, as three of the six games they have played have come against Jacoby Brissett, Jay Cutler, and Blake Bortles. If not for those matchups they would be the worst defense against the QB position and it is not even close. There is not much to support this play statistically, but Kizer is still an excellent GPP option in this favorable situation. If you are looking to stack him with a Browns WR, I guess you could go Ricardo Louis, but I am fine with playing Kizer naked.

DeShone Kizer officially named starter for Week 7

Cleveland has made it official, announcing Kizer as their Week 7 starter. He'll have a nice matchup against a Titans pass defense permitting the sixth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks this season. However, he's had a lot of trouble with turnovers, committing 11 in four and a half games including a league-leading four interceptions in the red zone, killing drives and scoring opportunities. He doesn't have a great group of pass-catchers around him either; he could struggle to rack up fantasy points through the air even in a favorable spot. He does offer a nice floor with his running ability though, averaging 25.2 yards 0.4 touchdowns per game.

DeShone Kizer expected to start Week 7

Mary Kay Cabot reports Kizer is expected to be reinstated as the Browns starting quarterback against the Titans. He'll have a nice matchup pass defense permitting the sixth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks this season.

Kevin Hogan will start ahead of DeShone Kizer in Week 6

Coach Hue Jackson has decided to move Kizer, the league-leader in turnovers (11), to the bench this weekend when the Browns visit the Texans. Hogan came in for Kizer in the second half of their Week 5 game against the Jets and was impressive, completing 16-of-19 passes for 194 yards and two scores. He may have a better spot than it appears against the ailing Texans defense that will be without two of their best defensive players and pass-rushers, J.J. Watt and Whitney Mercilus. Houston currently ranks 11th in pass DVOA while they've allowed the sixth-most yards per attempt (7.9), seventh-most passing touchdowns (9), and tenth-best passer rating (97.5) through five weeks. Of course, Hogan won't have many weapons to work with on the Browns' thin offense. Kenny Britt may be inactive again, leaving Ricardo Louis, Rashard Higgins, Kasen Williams, and Bryce Treggs at receiver. Running back Duke Johnson caught a late touchdown from Hogan last week and continues to lead the team in receiving yards (270). Hogan has shown some chemistry with tight end David Njoku - they connected for a 3/3/48/1 line in the second half. Njoku has now caught two of his three touchdown balls from Hogan, nabbing one in each game the quarterback attempted at least 11 throws. The Texans defense ranks sixth in TE DVOA but they're allowing the fourth-most yards (72.8) and the eighth-most PPR points to the position (14.88 per game).

Browns may bench DeShone Kizer for Week 6

The league-leader in turnovers (11) was benched for the second half of Cleveland's Week 5 loss to the Jets. Coach Hue Jackson left it open for Kizer to remain in the backup role going forward, saying he'll evaluate tape this week in order to determine who will be their starting quarterback in Week 6. Kizer threw two interceptions in the red zone yesterday, which encouraged Jackson to put Kevin Hogan under center. He did well, completing 16-of-19 passes for 194 yards and two scores. He's now connected on 68.4% of his passes on the season for three touchdowns, two picks, and a 73.7 QBR. Usually when a coach says he'll take some time with a quarterback decision in this type of situation it means a change is coming. Hogan appears to be on track to get the nod against the Texans this weekend.
