Dougie Hamilton Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Carolina blue liner turning the corner

With a plethora of options from the blue line tonight, Dougie Hamilton will not see much traffic, especially given the mediocre matchup against Vegas. However, Dougie came alive in January, potting five goals including a multi-point effort to enter the break. Dougie has a reasonable floor given his shot volume as he sits third overall in most shots on goal by a defenseman, trailing only Brent Burns and Roman Josi. If filling out your roster and you want a low-owned solo play in tournaments, roll the dice with Dougie as he should get his usual three shots on goal with a chance of hitting the scoresheet.

Blue liner has come alive in January

After just a measly point in 13 December games, Dougie Hamilton has had a far more productive January as the ex-Flame has seven points (4G, 3A) in 11 games while averaging nearly three shots on goal per contest. Dougie even scored last night against his old team before the Hurricanes bowed out in overtime. Dougie's shot volume gives him a nice baseline and if he keeps the hot streak going, he could easily pay off his sub-$5,000 salary on both DraftKings and FanDuel.

Last night a sign of things to come for Carolina blue liner?

Dougie Hamilton finally broke out last night, potting a goal and an assist in just 14 minutes of ice time. The two points were already more than his point total in December (1). Dougie Hamilton sits fourth amongst defensemen in most shots on goal (128), but he has not found the back of the net which can only be blamed on the Carolina Curse (plenty of shots but little to show for it). Dougie's price across the industry is affordable, and it's hard to find similar upside in his price range.

"Teach Me How to Dougie" Hamilton looks to impress in his Carolina debut

Dougie Hamilton was part of a blockbuster trade this offseason that sent Hamilton, Michael Ferland, and Adam Fox to Carolina in exchange for Noah Hanifin and Elias Lindholm. Hamilton will be a stalwart on the number one defensive pairing and should provide an offensive spark. He has a dream matchup against an Islanders team who allowed a league-worst 3.57 goals per game last season.

This defenseman is in a great spot tonight

The Calgary Flames are hosting the Anaheim Ducks tonight, a team that has given up a ton of chances as of late. Although the Ducks are a solid team, over their last 10 games they have given up 32.41 SCA/60 which is the third most in the NHL over that time frame. Hamilton has just five points over his last 10 games but his 11 blocks and 44 shots give him a 4.0 DraftKings points per game average which is great for a dman. He plays on the top power play unit and with a solid floor, also has elite upside in this sneaky good matchup.

Hamilton Play of the Day on Blueline?

The talented defenseman gets an A+ matchup tonight with the Islanders in town. Hamilton, a strong individual shooter, should have no problems piling up shots on goal tonight. Averaging over three shots on goal per game this season, Hamilton should see some positive regression in his goal total as long as he continues to shoot. The Islanders will not offer much resistance in that regard tonight, and Hamiltons role on the top power play unit against a weak penalty kill group enhances his upside tonight. The Transistor of the offense from the blueline, Hamilton is a top notch defensive play tonight.

This defenseman scored a hat trick last week and is in another prime spot

Dougie Hamilton potted his first ever hat trick last week against the Florida Panthers, but his team still lost 6-3. He has five goals and nine points over his last 10 games and looks to continue his offensive surge against the lowly New York Rangers tonight. Hamilton produces across the board averaging about block per game and just over three shots per game so if the offense is stale he can still produce. The Rangers have a 64.56 CA/60 over their last 10 games which is the fourth worst in the NHL. Dougie also sits on the top power play unit which increases his upside, despite the Flames struggles with the man advantage.

Shutdown Line In Great Spot At Home

If you're looking to differentiate your lineup without completely fading the Flames in a great spot at home, look to the second line of Calgary which features Mikael Backlund, Matthew Tkachuk, and Michael Frolik. Known more for their "shutdown" capabilities, this line has produced a combined 19 points over their last 10 games together. They draw a juicy matchup against the league's worst team in Arizona, who continue to struggle on the road this year. In a game Calgary should dominate from start to finish, there's no reason to assume this trio won't be able to pay off their very manageable prices tonight.

Dougie Hamilton

While teammate T.J. Brodie may see more power play time, Hamilton is the preferred play for two main reasons. First, he will register more shot attempts than Brodie, which sets up Hamilton for a nice DFS payday. Second, Hamilton will see favorable 5v5 draws (likely out with the 3M line) and he still maintains a healthy amount of power play time. The Devils come in to this game with an average 4.5 times shorthanded per contest, so Calgary should get looks on the power play. Additionally, New Jersey has allowed the most shot attempts per 60 minutes of 5v5 play on average. With an iCF/60 of close to 20, Hamilton has the upside and floor we want from a blueliner and he comes at a reasonable salary.

Hammer this defenseman in a dream matchup

Another day, another Dougie Hamilton recommendation. His price has shot up on FanDuel ($5,800), but on both DraftKings ($4,300) and FantasyDraft ($8,500), Dougie emerges as the top value at any position tonight. Dougie and the Flames will have the pleasure of facing off against Kari "Lettin' 'em in' Lehtonen who has been one of the worst goalies in the National Hockey League for several years running. Dougie has not been his same offensive self yet to start the year, but we know he has the same upside as many of the top defenseman in the league. Look for the Toronto, Ontario native to find the scoresheet at least once with upside for much more against Lehtonen and a tired Dallas team.
