Drake Caggiula Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

This winger will be missed in the playoffs.

It is back-to-back seasons in which the Chicago Blackhawks have missed the playoffs and missing out on playoff versions of Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews is unfortunate. They'll be playing together tonight on the top line with Drake Caggiula who makes for a very cheap third-wheel. Now, the matchup is tough against the Dallas Stars who are a fantastic defensive team and their goaltending has been great. Kane and Toews make for a great mini-stack as well, of course, but having a cheap winger helps make the full-line stack affordable. Over the last month, the Blackhawks have a 60.79 CF/60 which is the sixth-best in the NHL which helps mitigate the difficult matchup.

Cheap Blackhawk brings down cost of high-upside stack

Drake Caggiula is nothing to get excited about, but he is cheap and makes the team's top line of Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane affordable. Caggiula has picked up an assist in back to back games and in the game prior to that, he did have four shots on goal. While Drake does not see power play time, he is a cheap filler and has shown some occasional flashes of upside. The Blackhawks and Stars should play at a nice pace tonight in this wide-open affair.

This winger is still the hottest player in 2019

Despite the recent surge of Nikita Kucherov, Patrick Kane remains the hottest player in 2019. He has put up an impressive 14 goals and 40 points in 19 games in 2019 and is showing no signs of slowing down. It has been mostly the Kane show, though, as linemates Jonathan Toews (26 pts in 19 games) and Drake Caggiula (6 points in 17 games) don't come close to matching Kane. Now, in fairness to Caggiula, he hasn't been on this line the entire time, and he does have a modest 5 points in his last 9 games, so that is okay. Anyway, Kane and Toews make the most sense as a mini-stack as they play on the same power play unit as well.

This has been the hottest player in 2019

Patrick Kane has 37 points in 18 games in 2019 and is showing no signs of slowing down. His line with Jonathan Toews and Drake Caggiula has been great at even strength, though 12 of those 37 points have come with the man advantage. A home game vs. the Ottawa Senators is a premium matchup for Kane and the Blackhawks.

In 2019, this has been the best offensive player.

No player has been better than Patrick Kane since 2018 ended. In his 16 games in 2019, Kane has an unbelievable 11 goals and 32 points in just 16 games. Averaging two points per game over a stretch of 20 percent of the season is a long time and very impressive. When you consider how poorly the Chicago Blackhawks had been playing this season, Kane hasn't missed a beat. Although they have played a bit better as of late, they are still just 8-5-3 in 2019 which is good for 19 points. Blackhawks host the New Jersey Devils tonight Cory Schneider continues to look for a win. He has struggled once again this season with a 4.12 goals against average and a .868 save percentage — both of which are horrific.

The best player in the league has a premium matchup.

The Edmonton Oilers are on a four-game losing skid, but look to change that tonight as they host the Montreal Canadiens. Carey Price has been horrible lately, allowing 22 goals in his last 5 games. This bodes well for the new-look top line for the Oilers. Connor McDavid is centering Drake Caggiula and Leon Draisaitl and they're in a great spot. The trio make for a great line stack, but a two-man stack of just Leon and Connor is still in play as the two play on the same power play unit.

This line is my top play tonight.

The Washington Capitals have allowed 3.83 goals against per game — the fourth-worst mark in the NHL. They have struggled defensively this season and with Phoenix Copley in net for the Capitals, you should just lock in the best player in the NHL. Connor McDavid leads the slate, averaging 5.9 DraftKings points per game and has put up 9 goals and 21 points in just 13 games this season. He is playing with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins as well as Drake Caggiula, which is a pretty cheap play to offset McDavid's price. RNH and McDavid play on the top power play unit together giving them elite upside as a two-man mini-stack.

Could This Superstar Go Overlooked Tonight?

Anytime you can get the most exciting player in hockey at a lower than expected ownership, it creates enormous leverage in tournaments. Such could be the case tonight for Connor McDavid, who disappointed many on Tuesday in Edmonton's 5-0 loss to Buffalo. No longer skating with slow footed anchors Milan Lucic and Patrick Maroon, McDavid will play alongside talented young playmakers Caggiula and Slepyshev. They draw a great matchup against an overrated Flames squad that will be playing on tired legs following a tough loss to Los Angeles last night. In a game Edmonton desperately needs to win, expect a big performance from McDavid in a potentially high scoring affair.

McDavid's newest wing-man

Sometimes new playing partners alone creates value in DFS hockey and that couldn't be any more true for Drake Caggiula tonight. While he's posted just 11 points in 35 games this season, he's now been placed onto the Oilers top forward line where he'll be centered by Connor McDavid. If that wasn't enough to make you like him on its own, he also has a very favorable matchup awaiting him this evening as the lowly Buffalo Sabres head to the Rogers Place on the tail end of a back-to-back. Caggiula showed some offensive upside with a two-point outing against the Golden Knights last week and saw nearly 17 minute of ice-time in Edmonton's victory over the Canucks on Saturday. Pairing him with McDavid is an easy way to offset McDavid's big-ticket asking price, and I expect him to be a rather popular value option.

Newly Minted Third Line With Great Potential

If you're looking to differentiate your lineup without fading the Oilers in a great spot at home, consider taking the third line of Edmonton which features Leon Draisaitl, Ryan Strome, and Drake Caggiula. Fresh off a multipoint effort in his last game, Draisaitl and his linemates draw a juicy matchup against the league's worst team in Arizona, who continue to allow too many shots and scoring chances to compete in games. With home ice advantage on their side, look for head coach Todd McClellan to get this trio matchup against one of the weaker defensive lines and away from two-way center Derek Stepan, setting the stage for Draisaitl and co. to wreak havoc in the offensive zone throughout tonight's game.
