Veteran forward looks to build on multi-point game
The Kings are a poor team, but if looking for a cheap, contrarian forward, have a look at Dustin Brown who has four goals and two assists in seven March contests. Last time out, Brown buried a goal and an assist in 20 minutes of ice time. While the Jets are a good team, a majority of their results have come on home ice. On the road, they sit just above .500. A closer look at the Jets reveals they have allowed the fourth-most scoring chances against per 60 minutes (32.60 SCA/60) at 5-on-5 on the road since the All-Star break. Even on a small slate, someone like Dustin Brown will see minuscule ownership.
Fresh off a four goal night, this centre is in another position for a big game
Hopefully Anze Kopitar doesn’t have inflated ownership tonight because he is coming off of a four-goal night. It is unlikely, to be honest, because the Kings rarely see very high ownership on a full-slate and especially not on a slate with as many studs as tonight. However, this is a great matchup for him and the Kings as they visit Edmonton to take on the Oilers. Edmonton has been terrible at shot suppression or preventing scoring chances. Over their last 10 games they have allowed a 61.9 CA/60 which is sixth worst in the NHL as well as a 33.55 SCA/60 which is the second worst in the league. Kopitar will be lining up with Dustin Brown and Alex Iafallo, The full line stack is in play, but if you want to use a mini-stack then going with Kopitar and Brown is the way to go as they stick together on the top power play unit.
Late Night Hammer
With a combined 44 points in their first 17 games, the Kings top line featuring Anze Kopitar, Dustin Brown, and rookie Alex Iafallo has been a driving force in the LA's hot start to the year. A matchup against a stingy Vancouver squad may seem risky, but this team can be exposed away from home ice and allows too many scoring chances for their own good. Also featured on LA's top power play unit, look for the Kings top line to break through on the man advantage tonight against Vancouver's 24th ranked penalty kill in a game the Kings should control from start to finish.
top point-per-dollar play on the wing tonight??
The Toronto Maple Leafs may have the highest implied goal total tonight, but we can expect goals from both teams playing at the Air Canada Centre this evening. The Maple Leafs fast paced, open style of hockey results in plenty of scoring chances at both ends of the rink, and with the Los Angeles Kings offense firing on all cylinders, we could very well see a shootout tonight at the ACC. The Kings are averaging 3.86 goals per game so far in 2017-18, which is good for third overall in the National Hockey League, and their top line featuring sniper Dustin Brown is a big reason why. Brown and Anze Kopitar have been the best one-two punch in hockey (outside of Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos), and they should remain hot in this plus matchup tonight.
Great Value Play On The Wing
The Montreal Canadiens have now lost five straight contests and their goaltending has been one of their biggest issues. The Canadiens have allowed the ninth-most goals against per game (3.67) this season and we should see back-up goalie Al Montoya in goal tonight at the Staples Center as the Habs play their second game in as many nights. The Los Angeles Kings are off to a great start (4-0-1) thanks to very good goaltending and scoring depth. Both of the Kings top two lines have been producing in 2017-18, with Dustin Brown being a pleasant surprise. We know that the Kings second line (that 70s line) is going to be productive, but Los Angeles really struggled to get scoring from any other line last season, but that has changed this year with Brown racking up four goals and seven points in five contests. Skating alongside Anze Kopitar at both even strength and on the Kings top power play unit, Brown should continue to produce.
