Fozzy Whittaker Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Jonathan Stewart will start against the Saints

Carolina's top running back hasn't played since exiting their Week 2 game with the 49ers in the first quarter after suffering a hamstring injury. In his only full game, which was Week 1 against the Broncos, Stewart rushed for 64 yards on 15 carries. Football Outsiders ranks the Panther's run blocking 4th in adjusted line yards per carry (4.33), so he should be able to find some running room. Game flow may end up hurting him though. If they end up passing a lot he may lose snaps to Fozzy Whittaker, Carolina's preferred passing down back.

Jonathan Stewart continues to not practice; unlikely to play this week

While getting closer to a return to action, the fact that Stewart hasn't practiced yet this week makes it unlikely that he will play on Monday night against Tampa Bay. Cameron Artis-Payne and Fozzy Whittaker will continue to split the workload at the RB position for the Panthers. Tampa is a tough run defense (7th in RB Rush DVOA) so Artis-Payne is an unattractive option. Whittaker does have some appeal on PPR sites but there are better options out there near his price point.

Jonathan Stewart out; Cameron Artis-Payne to start

Panthers Head Coach Ron Rivera confirmed that RB Jonathan Stewart would be out this week and that Cameron Artis-Payne would be the starter. He added that he expected Artis-Payne to split the workload with Fozzy Whittaker. It's a tough match up against the Vikings and with the split work load and other viable value options at RB, these two can be avoided this weekend.

Cameron Artis-Payne expected to head the backfield Sunday

Artis-Payne was a healthy scratch for each of the Panther's first two games, but figures to play a major role with Jonathan Stewart on the shelf. He'll have to compete with Fozzy Whitaker and Mike Tolbert and is likely to lose goal-line work to Cam Newton, so his floor is very low, but at $4,800 on FanDuel and $3,000 on DraftKings, he's not worth writing off. He should still see somewhere between 10-15 touches and considering that running backs playing at home as touchdown favorites are typically strong targets, Artis-Payne is in a good spot. Minnesota's defense is strong, but touches generally breed production.

Jonathan Stewart likely out for one to two weeks with a hamstring injury

Carolina Panthers Head Coach Ron Rivera stated this morning that their starting RB, Jonathan Stewart, will likely miss one to two weeks with an injured hamstring. Cameron Artis-Payne and Fozzy Whittaker would likely get the majority of the work if he is unable to go with Mike Tolbert coming into the picture as well. It's a tough situation to read and one probably best avoided as Rivera does not seem committed to any one back.

Jonathan Stewart active and Fozzy Whittaker inactive for Panthers

Jonathan Stewart (foot) practiced all week and was absent from the Panthers' final injury report while Fozzy Whittaker (ankle) was ruled out earlier in the week. Cameron Artis-Payne and Mike Tolbert will be the reserves behind Stewart against the Seahawks whom Stewart ran for 78 yards and 2 touchdowns against when they last played in Week 6. Stewart missed the final three games of the regular season, but is not expected to be limited in today's game. He has has a relatively steady workflow, receiving 20 rushing attempts from Week 6 to Week 13.

Fozzy Whittaker out for Week 17

Sources state that Whittaker suffered a high ankle sprain and will sit out the Panthers last regular season game. Cameron Artis-Payne should get the start in what will be a moderately tough match up against a stingy Buccaneers run defense. He's definitely in consideration as a GPP play, however, due to projected work load and price.

Jonathan Stewart out this weekend

No surprise here as the Carolina Panthers have opted to give Jonathan Stewart the weekend off. Fozzy Whittaker will start with Cameron Artis-Payne and Mike Tolbert all getting work for the Carolina backfield in a plus match up against the New York Giants who are #23 in RB DvP. It's hard to trust any of the three for purposes of DFS. Whittaker and Artis-Payne will likely split the bulk of the early down work with Tolbert taking over on passing downs and inside the five yard line. There's value somewhere there, but figuring out exactly where is difficult and with other more clearly defined options out there it's a situation that is probably best avoided.

Panthers expected to use committee approach without Stewart

Panthers coach Ron Rivera stated that the team will likely use a committee approach with Jonathan Stewart out against the Giants. Fozzy Whittaker will presumably draw the start, but Mike Tolbert will see an uptick in touches (especially in the red-zone) while rookie Cameron Artis-Payne is expected to see the field for the first time since late October. We're tentatively expecting Whittaker to lead the backfield in touches, but Artis-Payne could see upwards of 10 touches if he's able to run well with his first handful of opportunities. Whittaker has the highest ceiling of the group with Tolbert not far behind given how the Panthers like to use him towards the goal line.

Ron Rivera says Fozzy Whittaker will likely start on Sunday

It appears very likely that Jonathan Stewart ends up sitting out Sunday against the Giants. Riverboat Ron has stated that Fozzy Whittaker is likely to start at tailback, with Cameron Artis-Payne also set to see game action acting in a complementary role. Mike Tolbert will continue to be a threat in the red-zone, but he's not a guy that can be counted on to receive an extended workload. We'd expect Whittaker to eat up a good chunk of Stewart's typical workload - while we aren't betting on 20+ carries for Whittaker, he is a candidate to see 16-20 touches if he does in fact head up the backfield. Carolina should be able to control the tempo in this one against a Giants team coming off of a short week. Cam Newton remains an elite QB target without Stewart in the lineup, and Greg Olsen will once again enter the week with one of the highest ceilings at the TE position. It's worth noting that the Panthers aren't going to be forced to push their starters at this point in the season, especially those that are dealing with any sort of injury.
